Chapter 403: The Vessel of War [1], Chaos In The Imperial Kingdom[The "Vessel of War" has appeared to put an end to this kingdom.]
As soon as this panel appeared before everyone’s eyes, Leon understood something very clear and profound about the nature of the battle he had been fighting all along.
From everything that happened until now, the gods had been his main goal, they were the ones he needed to defeat eventually no matter what it took.
No matter how "nice" they seemed on the surface, no matter how "friendly" they could be in their interactions, he needed to kill them all without exception.
Because to him, there was no such thing as a "good" god, and he had seen enough to know that their kindness was always a mask for manipulation.
But thankfully, up until now, they hadn’t done anything directly to him or his companions, staying in the shadows.
In fact, Leon had never encountered anything related to the gods directly until he reached the [Eternal Domain] in his past life.
At most you could sense their influence through the higher domains, but nothing more than subtle hints and whispers.
But he was mistaken about how far their reach truly extended.
For years on end, the gods found a loophole around the Heavenly One’s rule to not interfere in these matters, operating through proxies and vessels.
This meant that while Leon had spent 15 years in [Higher Domain #54] and the like, many places all across the higher domains faced something related to the gods, but he hadn’t seen it because he wasn’t looking.
In fact, pretty much almost no one saw it, because all those that did either died, or joined them as servants, their free will stripped away.
The [Imperial Kingdom] in Leon’s past life was destroyed after the excursion, as the guards were now all mostly under the god of war’s influence without even their knowledge, slowly weakening it from within.
Of course, one might wonder how that was possible, since Iris was far too strong to be defeated by any normal means.
But the answer became obvious as Leon saw the figure that appeared in the middle of the chamber, emerging from the crimson mist.
The "Vessel of War" was a towering entity with no lower half, meaning that it simply floating in the air like a spirit, its form ethereal yet menacing.
It had massive muscle with dark veins all over them, white and crimson skin that seemed to pulse with power, large teeth and a massive eye in its head, as well as two horns that curved backward like a demon’s.
Appraisal!
[Vessel of War (???)]
[Level: 100]
[Talent: Supreme Strength Enhancement+ (SS-Level)]
[Combat Power: 15,000,000]
[Details: One of the God of War’s many servants, he allows them to stay in the Higher Domains to do his bidding.]
The entity before Leon’s eyes was previously a player or native that decided to submit to the God of War, giving up everything for power.
As a result, they gained tremendous strength, so much so that pretty much nothing in the Higher Domains could challenge them, making them essentially unstoppable.
But of course, as a result, they gave up their identity, simply following the god’s orders without question or hesitation.
Of course, they’d eventually head to the [Eternal Domain] and grow even stronger there once their purpose in the higher domains was fulfilled, but as of now, they were stuck here.
The [Trace of God of Magic] that Leon had fought in [Lower Domain #1] was an inferior version of the "vessels" that existed in the higher domains.
After all, a trace was simply a lingering mark left after a long time passed, a faint echo of power.
While this vessel was directly still being controlled by the God of War, his will flowing through it like a puppet.
ROOOOAR!
It roared loudly, its mouth opening wide to reveal rows of sharp teeth, and then it released a shockwave that destroyed everything in its surroundings with devastating force.
In fact, it even killed a few players and lizard folk from the sheer impact, their bodies thrown across the chamber.
"This..." Iris’ eyes widened as she lifted her staff, her hands trembling, "I don’t think I can defeat that thing."
"Yeah," Leon’s eyes flared with determination, "I know."
The [Vessel of War] was the one thing that pushed Iris to her limit, either killing her or forcing her to submit to the God of War in Leon’s past life, ending her resistance.
Which meant this was the very first time that Leon was actually facing one of the gods’ actions directly, without any filters or intermediaries.
For the very first time in this new life, it was his first opportunity to stop one of the gods’ plans and make a real difference.
He believed that killing those corrupt lizard guards would have been enough to prevent this, but unfortunately not.
Today was the real deal, the moment everything would change.
But even though he thought about that, he knew he wouldn’t be able to kill that thing with his current power.
15,000,000 Combat Power, was pretty much double what Leon had, making the gap between them enormous.
Even with his sword’s blood heart blessing, he would be unable to hurt it through its defenses.
And even more terrifying, even if Leon used [Berserker], his forbidden skill which doubled his combat power, there was actually a chance he wouldn’t be able to match with the vessel’s overwhelming might.
The [God of War] wasn’t joking when he said that today was the day peace was over, and that the reign of the gods would start.
Because deep down, Leon felt it too: from today onward, he would truly have to face them directly more and more, the conflict escalating.
Starting with this thing right before him, this monstrosity that had been sent to destroy everything.
He would need to stop it was what he thought, or at least, that was before it released one of the most devastating attack he had seen yet.
War Cleave!
The vessel of war lifted both its arm, aura beginning to gather around them like a storm, and once it was ready, it swung with devastating power.
SLASH!
Instantly, two massive crescents of energy erupted from both its side, cutting through anything going through them, destroying everything in their path.
Time Stop!
Leon activated his forbidden spell right as they were about to reach him, the world turning grey around him.
Then without waiting, he immediately rushed Emilia, Celeste and Violet’s side, who seemed shocked by what was happening, frozen in place.
And right as Leon felt the threads of time were about to resume, he grabbed all three of them and pushed them down to the ground.
Fwoosh!
The crescent rushed right above them, killing thousands of people in the chamber who were not ready, and even more outside as it destroyed dozens of buildings on the way.
Iris tanked the attack with her barrier, but it shattered instantly, something that usually didn’t happen, showing how powerful the vessel truly was.
"W-What the hell is happening?" Celeste shouted as she got up and looked around at the devastation.
The previously full chamber was now almost entirely empty, only debris and bodies remaining.
Only a few dozen with the reaction time or luck to duck down survived the attack.
Everyone else... was dead, their lives snuffed out in an instant.
Emilia gasped in shock, tears welling up in her eyes at the sight of so much death, and even Violet seemed horrified by what she had witnessed.
Facing the [Vessel of War], even the [Forsaken City] didn’t seem so bad to her, the comparison stark.
"Get out of here," Leon said calmly to the three girls, "I’ll handle this."
Because Leon felt from the moment this thing appeared, that it could destroy the kingdom by itself, and it did in his past life actually, wreaking havoc everywhere.
That was the strength of the gods’ servants, and just one of them actually, not even in its full power state.
