Chapter 455: The Void King, Nocturne

The four kings stood before them, their forms radiating power that made the air around them shimmer and distort, their mere presence enough to make the ground tremble beneath their feet.

Each one was connected to the colossal rifts from which they came from, as well as several smaller rifts that continued to spawn monsters from their respective dungeons, the flow of enemies seemingly endless, a never-ending tide of destruction.

The Gorilla King beat its chest, the sound echoing like thunder across the battlefield, its roar shaking the very ground, while the Serpent King coiled and uncoiled, its movements hypnotic and deadly, its eyes fixed on its prey with cold, calculating intelligence.

The Crystal King stood like a statue, its body reflecting the light of the rifts, its crystalline form both beautiful and terrifying, each facet gleaming with deadly potential.

And the Flame and Ice King burned with an intensity that made the ground beneath him crack and melt, before freezing everything around him, a creature of impossible contradictions.

The Requiem Guild each faced one of the kings, with Cavin and Empress remaining behind, waiting for something, their eyes fixed on the largest rift.

And at that moment, the biggest rift of them all burst open, revealing the final king, its form shrouded in shadow, its power making even the other kings pause, their attention drawn to the massive tear in reality that seemed to swallow the light itself.

"I want to kill at least one or two of these kings," Leon informed the others, his voice filled with determination, "The loot must be good, I’m sure of it."

Leon knew he needed another way to ensure his victory against the Requiem Guild, something that would give him an edge in the inevitable confrontation.

Celestial’s Might and every ability of theirs would surely help greatly to even the odds, but there was one thing that was impossible for them to bypass: Cavin’s ability to target the soul directly.

Leon had never heard of such a thing before, neither in this life or his past one, but he needed to find a way to be able to protect his soul from such attacks if he wanted to survive facing the oni leader.

If he didn’t during the Monster Tide, he would simply have to deal with all the other things he had to do in the future until acquiring that.

BOOM!

At that moment though, from the largest rift, the final king emerged, a towering figure wreathed in shadows so dense they seemed to consume the light around it.

Its form was vaguely humanoid, but twisted and wrong, with too many limbs and a face that was nothing but a void, two crimson dots burning where eyes should be.

Its presence alone made the air grow heavy, and the other kings seemed to shrink back, acknowledging its supremacy.

"Damn, I need that thing," Leon instinctively knew, his blade and staff glowing with aura as he stared at the Void King, "But that Combat Power..."

Leon, Emilia, Celeste and Violet got ready for this next phase of the Level 6 Monster Tide, their bodies tensing as they prepared for the battle ahead.

Their weapons were raised and their eyes fixed on the kings before them, their hearts pounding with anticipation and fear.

But as Leon looked up to see the other servants of the gods still flying above, not budging, he knew that this wasn’t even close to being the end, that something far worse was still waiting to descend upon them.

But more terrifying than the Kings themselves was the sheer horde of monsters, each of them summoning dozens of monsters every few seconds from the rifts, their numbers growing as time went on.

Several of the monsters crashed against the Requiem Stronghold’s walls, forcing the people at the top of the walls and towers to use the structures to defend themselves, their weapons and structures working overtime to hold back the tide.

Fortunately, unlike the Kings, the monsters still had a reasonable combat power, allowing them to deal with them, but slowly, the stronghold’s defenses were wearing thin, cracks forming in the walls.

"Won’t hold for long," Empress said calmly, her voice carrying a note of concern, which made Cavin sigh, "If I remember correctly, there’s the matter of the Kings for the remaining hours of the Monster Tide and then..."

"...The ultimate challenge," Cavin grinned as he looked up, his eyes fixed on the servants above, "And the reason why these servants haven’t attacked yet."

"This does mean that if we defeat the "Kings" fast, the next few hours will be calm, enough for us to prepare for what comes next, without the main boss, most of these monsters will scatter in fear."

"Indeed," Cavin nodded, his expression turning serious.

Cavin called out to Granite, Mortis, Blaze, Ember and the many other Requiem Guild members, his voice carrying across the battlefield.

Then, as the Kings approached, he shouted his motivational speech, his voice booming across the chaos.

"The moment we’ve been waiting for all these years," he roared, attracting the attention of even Leon, who paused to listen.

At that moment, only his group and the Requiem Guild members truly stood a chance against these colossal beasts, all others were either dead meat or had retreated to safety.

"This is the last stretch before the final challenge, let us deal with these monsters, and though I won’t say that you should all expect to come out alive, from now on, think about WHY we are doing all this."

"Yessir!" the members shouted in unison, their voices filled with determination.

"Me and Empress will each deal with one of the Kings, while the rest of you take care of the other three."

One needed to know, but though the Requiem Guild members each had a Combat Power of around 20 million, it was mainly Empress and Cavin that truly stood among all of them.

The two of them had a Combat Power nearing 25,000,000, meaning that almost nothing in the Higher Domains could come close to matching them in combat.

Except the Hunter of course, as he was still far beyond anything they could hope to achieve, a being of legend.

But still, hearing all that, Leon knew he couldn’t sit around and do nothing either, that he had to contribute to this battle.

"Which one do we attack?" Violet was the first to speak, her voice steady, "All of these monsters are strong and will cause issues, in fact, I’m pretty sure none of us can even harm them alone."

"Well, we can’t split up, unlike the Requiem Guild," Leon nodded, his mind already working on a plan, "But... I’m quite confident we can defeat all of them by ourselves with the right strategy."

Hearing that, Celeste, Violet and Emilia were quite shocked, they couldn’t understand how, but they still nodded, trusting Leon’s judgment.

After all, after so many fights, they understood that Leon knew what he was doing, and that he always had a plan.
