Chapter 454: Abyssal Execution, The Kings’ Wave

Leon wanted to test out his new skill in the coming battle, feeling the power of the evolved [Abyssal Execution] settle into his being.

He was eager to see how it would perform against the next wave of enemies that would appear.

He also wanted to use the enhancement stones he had to upgrade all of their current equipment.

But at that moment, the vortex above erupted with a terrible roar, the sky splitting even more than before, the sound of tearing reality echoing across the battlefield.

"Here comes the next wave," Cavin shouted as the vortex above burned with aura and released more zaps of lightning, opening five giant rifts followed by smaller ones from which monsters came from, their roars heralding the next phase of the battle

The ground trembled beneath their feet as wave after wave of creatures emerged from the glowing tears in reality.

Meanwhile, the servants above still looked down, their expressions unreadable, as if waiting for something, their eyes fixed on the chaos below.

They watched the battle unfold with detached interest, their hands clasped behind their backs like spectators at a grand performance.

’Shit,’ Leon thought as he saw the rifts appear, "Take that!"

He tossed the spear toward Celeste, the robe toward Emilia and the necklace at Violet, each of these items would help them in the coming battle, giving them the edge they needed against the overwhelming odds.

[Flameheart Spear (Ancient): +60,000 Attack Power, +40,000 Spirit, +40,000 Strength, +25,000 Agility. A spear forged in the heart of a dying star, it channels the user’s soul into devastating flames that can burn through even the toughest armor.]

[Star Robe (Ancient): +50,000 Spirit, +25,000 Constitution, +10,000 Agility. A robe woven from the threads of starlight, it carries a faint trace of celestial power that enhances the wearer’s magical abilities and provides a passive shield against dark attacks, making the wearer resistant to curses and dark magic.]

[Stormheart Pendant (Legendary): +40,000 Spirit, +20,000 Constitution. This pendant hums with the power of a gathering storm, granting the wearer a passive 20% boost to all elemental attack damage, making their spells and abilities hit harder than ever before.]

As for himself, he didn’t really need any of the other items, having already found equipment that suited his fighting style and complemented his abilities.

The [Monster’s Bane] was an incredibly powerful sword indeed, one that he would usually use without hesitation in any other situation.

[Monster’s Bane (Ascendant): +85,000 Attack Power, +65,000 Strength, +50,000 Agility. A bloodthirsty blade forged from the corpses of hundreds of monsters, it hungers for beast flesh and heals its wielder with every kill, growing stronger with each monster it devours.]

But the [Magicless Sword +2] still held the power of the [Blood Heart Blessing] which tripled the strength output of each of his slashes, making it far more valuable than raw stats alone, especially against enemies with high defenses.

Basically, there was nothing that could beat the Magicless Sword except if it surpassed it overwhelmingly in terms of attributes, or if he managed to get a better Blood Heart Blessing into it through the artifact’s next evolution.

’Or... if I can acquire a sword that can also cast magic, like in my past life,’ Leon smiled faintly, the thought lingering in his mind as he watched the monsters pour from the rifts.

Either way, he and the girls focused on the next wave of the Monster Tide, their weapons raised and their eyes scanning the horizon for the threats that were about to emerge.

By now, the tens of thousands of players and natives had long disappeared, either killed in the brutal fighting or returning inside of the stronghold to safety, leaving only the strongest fighters on the battlefield.

But... that safety wouldn’t last for much longer as massive shapes began to emerge from the four of the five colossal rifts.

Four giant monsters unlike anything before appeared from each of the rifts, their forms so massive that they made even the few players who remained shiver with fear.

Their presence dominatied the landscape like walking mountains, their eyes glowing with malice.

And at that moment, a panel appeared in front of every player to describe the next wave and how it worked.

The words burned with golden light that cut through the chaos of battle.

Ding!

[The five "Kings" have appeared.]

[Every "King" is linked to several of the rifts that spawn monsters from their dungeon (and mainly to the colossal rift from which they came from), they are the respective bosses of each dungeon, killing them is the only way to close these rifts.]

Basically the Monster Tide would keep going until these "Kings" were dead, otherwise they would get overwhelmed by the endless hordes of monsters trying to attack the stronghold.

This also meant that killing the "Kings" would allow this wave to quickly stop though.

The Requiem Guild didn’t seem too shocked by this though, as they each took position around the battlefield, their movements calm and practiced, as if they had been expecting this exact scenario.

They each headed toward one of the four "Kings" as if they had planned this before hand, their formation precise and coordinated, each member knowing exactly where they needed to be.

’How does the Requiem Guild even know everything that will happen?’ Leon wondered, his suspicion growing with each passing moment.

From the initial wave, to the appearance of the servants and how they’d react, to now these "Kings".

It seemed like Cavin knew everything that would happen, as if he had seen this all before, a thought that sent a chill down Leon’s spine.

Regardless, Leon focused back on these monsters, he knew that the "Kings" would likely drop incredibly interesting loot that could help them in the coming battles, making them worth the risk of facing.

The largest rift of them all, the fifth one, remained eerily empty, no King emerging from its depths, which made Leon wonder what exactly was waiting to come through.
