"I should kill myself."
Qasim looked at his reflection in the hospital window. The tubes connected to his small body were everywhere.
Stage 3 cancer since he was 8 years old.
Now he was 13, and it had advanced to stage 4 and the chemotherapy didn’t help him; instead, it only made him suffer more and made his family lose money.
"Father... he will never give up on me."
Qasim took a small, weak breath.
"But I am tired. I know they are tired too... So isn’t it better for all of us if I just end it right here, right now?"
Qasim thought long and hard about it. He had suffered for so long, and his father had sunk deeper and deeper into debt.
*He loves me, so he won’t abandon me... but I no longer believe in myself.*
He looked down at his trembling legs.
*Walking hurts, breathing is difficult, and chemotherapy has worn me down...*
He touched his head gently to avoid the pain.
*My hair was gone, my body is weak, and even if I beat the cancer... then what?*
Qasim let out a weak, weary laugh.
*I feel like it’s too late for me... even if my father says I still have life ahead of me, all I see is...*
He reached out and touched the window in front of him.
The reflection of a thin, sick boy pained his heart even more.
*All I see is darkness...*
Qasim then removed all the medical machines connected to his body. Although he immediately felt the difference, he didn’t collapse right away.
"Just a little bit closer..."
He opened the window, took one last weak breath, closed his eyes and let his body fall.
It all happened fast. The cold air traveling across his skin, the pressure, the gravity pulling him down, and lastly, the impact.
Everything went silent.
For a moment, Qasim thought that he would finally rest in peace, but then he realized that he was still thinking.
"Doesn’t dying mean the end...? I-Am I in heaven?"
Qasim slowly opened his eyes. A beam of light blinded him for a second before he slowly adapted and fully opened them.
Around him were a bunch of weird machines that looked unfamiliar.
For a moment, his heart dropped, thinking that he had failed his suicide attempt, but after a second look, he realized that everything looked broken, covered in dust, and abandoned for a long time.
"What the hell..."
Before he could finish his sentence, he started coughing, and that made him look at his hand.
His eyes widened, and his mouth dropped open. This hand wasn’t his for sure. It looked healthy and somehow a bit younger.
A sudden urge hit him to search for the closest mirror or window. Fortunately, the machine he was sitting inside had a glass panel. He wiped the dust first, then stared in confusion at the boy reflected in the glass.
Qasim’s hair was gone because of the treatment. His eyes were brown and full of dark circles, and his mouth was dry and small. But this body was different.
Short white hair and beautiful blue eyes with a healthy-looking face.
"Wha- Who is this?..."
Qasim touched his face in confusion. His body was also healthy, something he hadn’t even dreamed of in his entire life.
Some tears started forming in his eyes. This feeling was immeasurable, and he couldn’t describe it.
"This is... me?"
He was overwhelmed by emotions that he didn’t mind the fact that he was completely naked.
Before he could gather his thoughts, Qasim heard a weird sound coming from behind the broken door.
"H-Hello?! Who is there?"
No answer.
That made Qasim feel a bit scared. What if he had been kidnapped? But who in their right mind would kidnap a 13-year-old cancer patient?
The next moment, Qasim saw a humanoid figure slowly entering the room. It had no eyes, no nose, and only two holes for its ears.
It had abnormally long arms, long legs, a skinny figure, and pale skin.
It’s mouth was wide open as if it’s broken, and a long purple tongue was slowly moving up and down.
Qasim’s heart dropped, and a cold chill ran through his body as he watched the monster slowly walking around, feeling its way forward. It was about to move right toward where he was!
"I need to run out of here now!"
Qasim thought.
He slowly stood up, lowered his body, and started moving as quietly as possible. Or at least that was the plan because he accidentally stepped on something, breaking it and making a sound that caused the monster to quickly turn around and run toward the noise—exactly where Qasim was.
Seeing the creature running at him was by far the scariest thing Qasim had ever experienced in his short life. He felt the urge to run as fast as he could, and in the next second, he pushed himself forward and started running at an amazing speed, only to slam into a wall.
Surprisingly, the pain was minimal, nothing like hitting a solid wall at such high speed. But he didn’t have time to think about it as he quickly adjusted himself and continued running.
He kept running, taking turns without knowing where they would lead him, but it didn’t matter as long as he was getting farther away from that monster. The next moment, he saw light coming from behind a door, and once he passed through it, he opened his eyes in shock.
There were a massive number of trees and plants surrounding the building he had just escaped from.
But Qasim wasn’t focusing on the view. No, he was scared to death by the waves of monsters casually roaming around.
Luckily, it seemed they hadn’t noticed him. They were the same blind monsters, so as long as he stayed quiet, he could escape.
Just as he thought that, the monster from before caught up to him and slammed into the door before falling back.
In the next second, all the monsters around him turned their heads toward the sound.
