In the next second, all the monsters around him turned their heads toward the sound.
Although they didn’t have eyes to stare at Qasim’s scared face, that was exactly what made it feel even more wrong.
Qasim didn’t hesitate and started running to his right. All the monsters started following him with their mouths wide open.
Qasim had read before about the rush of adrenaline in life-and-death situations that could give humans what looked like superpowers. We could run faster in fear, lift cars just to save our children, or even survive jumping out of buildings. But the way Qasim was moving couldn’t be justified by a simple rush of adrenaline.
No, he was sprinting like crazy and jumping higher than any basketball player he had ever seen on TV. Weirdly enough, he kept hitting rocks and dead roots along the way, yet he didn’t even get a scratch.
"What happened to m-"
But while thinking, he suddenly ran into a monster that had appeared right in front of him. Without any way to stop his acceleration, and with the fact that he still wasn’t used to having a healthy body, Qasim didn’t know what to do, so he simply closed his eyes and kept moving.
The monster opened its arms and mouth, ready to attack, but in the next moment, Qasim crashed into it at full speed, making it explode into a burst of flesh, blood, and bones.
The impact hurt Qasim, but it didn’t even leave a scratch on him!
Now fully covered by the disgusting flesh, blood, and smell of the monster, Qasim was even afraid of his own body.
"Just what the hell happened to me..."
But he didn’t have time to think since there were still waves of ugly monsters chasing him, and he had no idea how to escape them. He was running... but until when? Where could this possibly end?
He found out the answer faster than expected when he saw that he was heading toward a cliff, indicating that he was on an island.
He looked around and spotted a small house not far away. It was either jump off the cliff, return to the forest, or...
"Maybe I can hide in the house? They don’t seem to have a sense of smell, so maybe if I just stop moving, they’ll lose me!"
He didn’t know if his plan would work, but he had to try, so he quickly turned and headed toward the house.
As soon as Qasim reached the house, he opened the door, and to his complete surprise, it looked normal. No weird futuristic machines or rotten plants. No, it was a simple small house with a chair, a bed, and a desk. It was still covered in dust, but not by much.
For the first time since he woke up, Qasim felt safe.
But in the next moment, monsters slowly emerged from the forest and surrounded the house.
"How did they find me?! They were too far away to hear my footsteps heading here."
But when he took a better look, he found out that these weren’t just the monsters that had been following him. No, there were new monsters—taller, with shorter arms, curved backs, and two heads.
A cold chill ran down Qasim’s body as he saw what their faces looked like.
They had no ears. Instead, they had wide-open eyes that looked like endless abyssal holes, completely black and unnaturally large. They also had a huge smile that showed no teeth, only endless darkness behind it, and both heads had the exact same terrifying expression.
There weren’t many of these new monsters compared to the blind ones, but it seemed like the blind monsters were following them, slowly closing the gap toward Qasim.
The boy could only stare in horror as the smiling monsters looked directly at him.
As soon as they were about twenty steps away from the house, they all suddenly crashed to the ground.
Waves of explosions erupted one after another, and Qasim couldn’t understand what was happening until, in the next moment, he saw a strange creature standing in front of the house as if protecting it.
It looked like a giant dog with white skin and long limbs, but he couldn’t see its face.
Only after every monster near the house had been killed, leaving only those farther away fleeing back into the forest, did the creature slowly turn around and stare directly at the house.
At Qasim.
The boy froze on the spot.
An insane wave of pain suddenly hit him. It was by far the most painful thing he had ever experienced, even more painful than the cancer destroying his body.
In the next second, he tried to open his eyes, only to see a giant eye dangerously close to him, staring directly into him.
Qasim felt as if his mind was breaking apart, as if his soul was being ripped out of his body.
The creature kept staring at him for one more second before it sniffed him and let out a strange breath.
In the next second, it raised one of its paws into the air before bringing it down. The paw passed through the walls of the house as if they didn’t exist before landing on Qasim.
The next moment, the boy’s vision turned half black, and a strange radio-like static began filling what little vision he had left before everything disappeared.
Qasim slowly opened his eyes again and looked around.
He was in a completely different place.
A large room painted white with a hint of yellow. Stickers covered parts of the walls. A table with chairs around it. A fridge. Several doors leading to what were probably other rooms, and...
A cold knife pointed at his neck.
The cold metal immediately made him forget about the room. He slowly raised his eyes and saw a young girl with black hair and cold brown eyes staring at him while holding the knife.
To his left stood a big bald man, watching him carefully.
On his right was a woman wearing long clothes, with long brown hair covering her eyes, though she was probably staring at him as well.
Then he heard a voice from behind him.
Another man was sitting on a chair, calmly drinking what looked like tea. He had blond hair and green eyes.
"Well, well, well... what do we have here~"
