Only I Can Use Every Power System

Chapter 16: Cha.16 More Knowledge

"They must first cross the line separating ordinary people from those who wield power."

Qasim looked at Valen with curiosity.

"How do I take the First Step?"

Valen’s smile remained, but this time it carried a hint of seriousness.

"The First Step isn’t something you train for nor something you make or understand."

"It’s something you endure."

He slowly leaned back against his chair before continuing.

"Long ago, ancient humans discovered something..."

He shook his head.

"We don’t even know what it truly is."

"The only thing we know..."

"...is that it exists."

Valen raised a single finger.

"We call it... THE CUBE."

Qasim silently listened.

"It is an unknown structure, hidden from the world and one of it’s greatest secrets."

"You won’t find books talking about it."

"Even if information exists somewhere..."

"It is far beyond the reach of ordinary people."

"A single fragment of the Cube releases an overwhelming pressure."

"For most humans..."

"...that pressure means death."

"The same applies to the other races."

He folded his arms.

"But those capable of enduring it long enough become awakened or as we call them...Mahik."

Qasim carefully organized everything inside his head before asking his next question.

"How long does someone have to endure it?"

Valen shrugged lightly.

"It differs from person to person."

Qasim nodded before asking another question.

"What exactly do you gain after becoming Mahik?"

"And..."

"If everyone has to become one..."

"Why isn’t Mahik considered a power path by itself?"

Valen smiled.

"Because Mahik doesn’t replace the power paths."

"It supports them."

He slowly stood up and walked toward the window.

"You can think of it as the path that covers every other path."

"It simply prepares you."

He remained silent for a brief moment before speaking again.

"The things Mahik grants are what we call Authorities."

"The first Authority allows you to sense the different layers of the world."

"The Physical Layer."

"The Spiritual Layer."

"Tthe Egoistical Layer."

Valen then lifted the sleeve covering his left forearm.

Just above his wrist...

A faint black tattoo could be seen disappearing beneath his clothes.

He quickly covered it again.

"And..."

"You also get a cool tattoo somewhere on your body."

"I still think that’s pretty cool."

Qasim stared at him for a few seconds.

His excitement slowly faded.

Back on Earth...

Every fantasy story treated Awakening as the moment the main character became unbelievably powerful.

This...

Didn’t sound nearly as impressive.

"...Maybe I should stop treating this world like a fantasy story."

He whispered to himself.

A moment later...

His eyes widened.

"You said...AsMahik you these things.’"

He looked back at Valen.

"Does that mean there are more Steps?"

Valen couldn’t hide his smile.

"You’re a smart boy."

He nodded.

"Yes there are."

"And every official Black Seed team leader must at least reach the Second Step."

"We call it..."

"...Hilal-Awal."

"So me and Aurora are Hilal-Awal."

Qasim immediately leaned forward.

"What does the Second Step give you?"

Valen simply placed a finger in front of his lips.

"You’ll have to become Mahik first."

"Even though you’re already part of my team..."

"There are still rules I have to follow."

Qasim puffed his cheeks.

"I thought you didn’t follow rules."

"How boring."

Valen laughed.

"I only ignore the annoying ones."

His smile gradually softened.

"As I said before..."

"Awakening is extremely dangerous."

"So if you’ve changed your mi—"

"No."

Qasim answered before Valen could finish.

"I want to do it."

There wasn’t the slightest hesitation in his voice.

Valen looked at him for a moment before smiling.

"Good."

"Then it’s fortunate I already informed Black Seed."

"They’re preparing your trial."

Qasim blinked.

"Trial?"

Valen nodded.

"Before anyone is allowed near the fragment Black Seed own..."

"They’re first tested."

"It’s similar to the test I gave you when you suddenly appeared out of nowhere."

Qasim immediately remembered the strange trial from his first day.

"So if I pass..."

"I’ll be allowed to try becoming Mahik?"

"Exactly."

"When?"

"Tomorrow morning."

"They’ll come here."

"And that’s exactly why Doran has been cleaning the base since earlier."

...

Elsewhere...

Doran dragged another broken cabinet outside.

His face had already turned bright red.

"...This whole place smells like a filthy scrapyard."

"...Thanks to our wonderful leader."

...

That night...

Qasim opened another notebook.

After thinking for a moment, he wrote a title.

**Awakening Steps and Beyond**

He slowly began writing.

**First Step — Mahik (Awakening)**

- Achieved by enduring the pressure released from a fragment of the mysterious Cube.

- The required time differs from person to person.

- Allows the user to sense the Physical, Spiritual and Egoistical Layers.

- Also... gives a tattoo?

He stared at the last point for a second.

"...Still feels random."

He continued writing.

**Second Step — Hilal-Awal**

"I don’t know how it’s achieved or what it grants."

Qasim rested the pen on the table.

"...Steps..."

He quietly repeated the word.

"Steps..."

"...Leading where?"

There was no answer.

He closed the notebook.

"So..."

**The Mohlikat**

"Magic."

"Alchemy."

"Maker."

"They’re all separate."

"But the Steps..."

"They’re the ground every building stands on."

"If the ground isn’t strong enough..."

"No matter how impressive the building is..."

"It’ll never rise any higher."

"...I think that’s a better way to look at it."

He placed the notebook beside the others before lying down on his bed.

A smile slowly formed across his face.

"...I seriously can’t wait for tomorrow."
