"T-The weather is n-nice, isn’t it?"
"..."
Qasim was quite shocked by how unskilled this woman was at talking. Even though he had been a cancer patient, he had always been a pretty smooth talker himself.
Seeing Levia’s face turn red from embarrassment, Qasim tried to save the moment.
"Yes, it is nice outside."
"O-Oh, f-for real? How did you know?"
"Yup... this woman is hopeless," Qasim cried in his mind before changing the subject.
"Anyway, teacher, what should we learn first?"
"R-Right... We must... Umm, I must first teach you what magic truly is."
For the next few minutes, Levia prepared the study area by removing some of Valen inventions. Once she finished, she began explaining.
"First, it’s good to know that magic is the second power system invented by humans, after the development of alchemy during the second century."
Qasim nodded to her.
"Magic is the art of controlling mana to act according to the mage’s will, and to be mage you need to have talent in sensing mana..."
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"First, you need to imagine that in this world there is an invisible power flowing through the air around us in every corner."
Then she opened her eyes and raised her finger.
"There are many types of mana. Fire mana, Water mana, Earth, Wind and Electro... Each has its unique color and shape"
"The first step every mage must take is learning how to sense the mana around them, so you need to sense at least one type of mana... For me, I am a fire and earth mage."
She then asked Qasim to sit in a cross legged position and try to feel something heavy floating around him.
"Okay, teacher. I’ll try."
Qasim took his position, closed his eyes, and tried to sense the mana around him.
He remembered reading how every main character who transmigrated into another world either had some incredible talent or a mysterious system helping them. So, he believed he would receive some kind of special treatment too.
But as time passed, nothing seemed to happen, and he started getting worried until Levia asked him to stop.
"Please, teacher... don’t tell me I can’t use magic."
The words left his mouth with a hint of bitterness.
"N-Not really. I can clearly feel the mana around you reacting... It’s just that it’s reacting by avoiding you, which is why you can’t sense it."
"Is there a solution?"
Levia paused for a moment to think.
"Despite this being an extremely rare case—even I’ve never seen anything like it before—according to some old research I read, there’s a high chance that your body is one of the unique ones that mana fears."
"Basically, your body works like a prison to mana, forcing it to stay inside until you cast a spell. Because of that, wild mana naturally stays away from this type of body."
Then she raised her hands and smiled in an attempt to please Qasim.
"O-On the bright side, the solution is simple. We just need to force enough mana into your body until it becomes saturated. That way, the surrounding mana won’t keep running away. Here, let me help you."
Levia dropped her staff on the ground before placing both hands on the boy’s back and started pouring mana into him.
The second Qasim felt the mana entering his body, he was filled with joy. The strange yet pleasant sensation made him smile.
Soon enough, he started sensing the mana around him.
"It’s working, teacher! I can sense the mana around us!"
Although Qasim was overjoyed, Levia was completely shocked.
No matter how much mana she poured into him, it never even seemed close to half full. Eventually, sweat began forming on her forehead as she felt her own mana being drained, forcing her to step back.
"What’s wrong, teacher?"
"O-Oh, i-it’s nothing... I just think you’re really special, if I can say so."
"Now that you can sense the wild mana around you, it’s time to tame it. Despite sounding like a fantasy, magic is actually based on science and laws that you need to understand and follow."
"First, close your eyes again and tell me what shapes you see the mana taking."
Qasim did so.
He saw a vast variety of colors, and each type had its own unique shape.
"You can see many different mana shapes? That means that technically, you can use every type of spell."
Levia gave him a warm smile before raising three fingers.
"There are three factors you need to consider when casting a spell. First is the mana type—for example, fire. Second is the spell type, such as passive, active, timed. Lastly is the spell’s rank."
"But before you can even think about casting a spell, you first need to tame the mana around you. You do that by building a Mana Block, like solving a puzzle. Then you repeat the process many times until you’ve created a Mana Blockchain that is completely unique to you."
"Watch me closely."
Levia closed her eyes and started whispering notes to herself about where certain mana particles should fit and where they shouldn’t while moving her hands.
After only a few seconds, she opened her eyes again.
This time, Qasim could clearly feel the incredibly complex mana pattern resting in her hand.
"So basically, I need to create a puzzle using the mana around me..."
Levia noticed that something was bothering him.
"What is it?"
"How can you even move the mana in the first place?"
"Oh, that’s simple. Because we’re humans."
"We have both bodies and souls. Because of that, we can naturally move the mana around us. Some races don’t possess both a body and a soul, so they can’t use magic like we do. They need special devices instead."
"I see... Thank you, teacher."
"N-No problem. It will take some time before you can create even your first Mana Block, let alone your first Mana Blockchain, so take it easy and don’t rush—Ahh!"
Before Levia could finish speaking, she froze in shock.
The same boy who hadn’t even understood the basics of moving mana just moments ago had successfully created his very first Mana Block.
"Turns out it was a good idea to spend all that time solving and creating puzzles back on Earth."
With a satisfied smile, Qasim looked at his teacher.
"What next?"
