None of the children spoke. They simply stared in horror as the fox man spread his hands and said in a calm voice,
"Let’s *Jogo do ser humano* begin."
In the next moment, the children heard something screaming behind them.
It was a lion.
A real, fully grown lion was standing behind them, staring at them with hungry eyes.
Then, in front of them, a door opened.
The children immediately ran through it while the lion slowly followed behind them, just like a predator playing with its prey.
The children found themselves inside a maze, surrounded by walls with different paths to choose from.
"C’mon, little humans. Run, run."
The fox man was now sitting in a separate room alongside his followers, all of them Beastkin.
He looked at them before saying with a satisfied smile,
"Alright, everyone. Place your bets on which of these humans is likely to be the one."
...
Back in the maze, the children had finally lost all hope.
They were on the ground crying. Some screamed for their parents to save them, while others simply cried in fear until they wet themselves.
Melissa looked at them.
She was afraid too.
She wanted to close her eyes and cry, hoping that maybe this would turn out to be nothing more than a nightmare.
But she knew it wasn’t.
This was real life.
She was in danger.
In fact, all of them were in danger.
She remembered Qasim.
He was a kid just like her, yet he was dealing with supernatural things.
If he could fight against things like that, then she could try too.
In fact, she had to fight back.
"Everyone! We will die if we stop here!"
Some of the children looked at her with tears in their eyes.
"What can we even do? Look at that monster coming after us! I don’t know how to solve a maze!"
One of the girls spoke, but Melissa quickly covered her mouth.
"So what? We can’t try?"
Melissa looked toward the lion.
"No! The only way to live is to try!"
She pointed at the lion.
"Look at that lion. It’s moving slowly on purpose. Do you think that if it wanted to kill us quickly, it couldn’t?"
She shook her head.
"No... They’re waiting for us to stay in our place in fear while we watch death come toward us!"
Melissa raised her hand.
"I’m good with mazes. Anyone else who’s good at solving them, come with me in the front. We will lead the rest to the exit!"
The children weren’t sure whether to believe her or not.
But they realized that staying there and doing nothing meant certain death.
Even if they managed to hide for a while, the lion would eventually find them.
In the end, their only solution was to find the exit and leave the maze.
Some kids stepped forward, especially those who were more familiar with solving mazes.
Some of the physically stronger kids helped the weaker ones.
"Good. Let’s go now!"
The children moved quickly from one path to another.
Dead end after dead end, they continued moving forward.
Meanwhile, the lion was still moving slowly behind them.
Melissa thought that this was indeed strange, but she continued focusing on the maze.
Finally, they could see a door in front of them.
The children rushed toward it and opened it.
Then they froze.
Inside was a horrible scene.
It was a cold, dark room, and several humans were inside.
They were completely naked and heavily deformed.
The children watched in horror as those people screamed in pain.
Some of their body parts were pierced by long, large nails.
Their eyes weren’t normal either.
They were red, and saliva covered their mouths.
The children were stunned and immediately wanted to go back.
But suddenly, one of the humans noticed them.
The human screamed.
The others behind him also noticed the children.
"That’s not good..."
Melissa thought.
But to her shock, that human suddenly rushed toward her.
As if time had slowed down, she saw the human jumping through the air toward her.
She was afraid.
She was exhausted.
She couldn’t move.
Melissa closed her eyes in fear.
But in the next second, she heard something hit the ground.
She opened her eyes.
The fox man was standing in front of her, holding the human by the neck with one hand.
He looked back at the children.
"Are the little humans okay?"
His words were kind, but his cold tone did nothing to make the children feel more comfortable.
"Ah, my bad. I forgot to clean this place earlier. Let me just..."
He grabbed the human with both hands, one holding the head and the other holding the feet.
The children began hearing the human scream.
Then they heard strange noises.
Like something was being torn apart.
In the next second, the fox effortlessly tore the human apart down the middle.
Blood covered the floor.
Guts fell onto the ground.
The disgusting sounds of flesh and liquid filled the room.
The children couldn’t breathe.
They fell to their knees, completely overwhelmed by what they had just witnessed.
All the strength they had was gone.
There was nothing left in their tiny bodies.
The fox casually threw the remains onto the ground before turning toward the children.
"Congratulations. You actually found the exit. Now go ahead."
"Just walk past those things and you’ll end up in a long hallway. Keep moving until you find the exit."
The fox stood there, watching the children.
No one moved.
Then he spoke again.
"Or perhaps you like it in here?"
He smiled.
"Since no one is moving, maybe I should..."
He didn’t even finish his sentence.
The children immediately began crawling toward the exit.
Tears filled their eyes as they passed by the other mindless humans.
The smell was unbearable, but that was the last thing they were thinking about.
They only wanted to escape.
The fox watched them with a little smile on his face.
Then one of his followers, a Beastkin with a cat face, jumped beside him.
"There are some intruders coming from exit number five..."
"Hm? How many?"
"A human boy with white hair and a human girl with black hair."
"Oh, humans? Then who cares~"
The fox’s voice suddenly became more wicked.
"It’s a bit annoying that they’re coming from the same exit the little humans are heading toward, but I don’t mind them meeting up."
"After all, the plan was successful..."
He then looked at his follower.
"Now tell me. Did you manage to get that camera device?"
"Yes..."
The follower bowed his head.
"Good."
The fox narrowed his eyes.
"You didn’t touch that girl’s mother, right?"
"No. I followed your orders..."
"Good..."
The fox looked toward the ceiling before closing his eyes.
"Letting a human live, huh...?"
A satisfied smile appeared on his face.
"Ahh... I have such a good heart, don’t I?"
