Only I Can Use Every Power System

Chapter 86: Cha.86 More more Knowledge

Back at the base, the tired members of Team Four went to get treated by Aurora one last time before her retirement.

Except for Valen.

He had to write the report first, and when they asked him to come with them, he simply refused with a smile.

"Nah, you guys go first. I can’t let the paperwork pile up on me."

The team didn’t argue any further and went to get treated.

When they came back in the afternoon, they were so tired that they didn’t even bother changing or showering. They went straight to bed.

Except Yasmin, who went to talk with Valen.

"Private talk now?"

"Mmm, aren’t you tired first? I recom—"

"No. Talking first."

...

After a peaceful night, the team woke up the next day feeling much better.

They went through their daily routine: showering, eating, and talking with each other for a while.

Then Valen called a meeting.

According to him, he was going to teach his ignorant team some new things.

Qasim, Doran, and Levia went together to the meeting room, where they found Yasmin already there, zoning out.

"Morning, Yasmin. Did you sleep well last night?" Levia asked with a big smile.

But she received no response.

"She seems too focused on her thoughts," Doran commented.

Qasim walked over and gently touched Yasmin’s shoulder.

"Is everything okay?"

Yasmin widened her eyes and blinked, as if she had just realized she was zoning out.

She looked at the boy with a hint of sadness in her eyes, but quickly turned her head away and answered that she was fine.

Qasim looked worried, but before he could ask anything else, Valen entered the room with a mocking smile.

"Well, well, well... I guess my team is so excited to learn something new from their beloved captain. Oh, that’s so embarrassing! It’s my first time having this many students."

"Cut it out with the beloved captain stuff and tell us what you’re going to talk about."

Valen gave Doran an annoyed side glance for a moment before answering.

"Obviously, it’s about the thing you guys asked me about at the end of the mission, remember? Why Qasim had a harder time reaching his next Step than me or Yasmin?"

"Oh... In that case, I’m out. I already know about the Step Indicator."

"Huh? Wait, hey!"

Valen called out to Doran, who had already started making his way out.

He then turned toward the others for a moment before closing his eyes and shaking his head while whispering.

"At least stay with me... Damn it." He then opened his eyes and realized that he said it louder then he thought so he turn around and laugh it off.

"Agh... Every teacher has that one naughty, naughty student who skips the lesson."

At the moment Qasim notice that Valen eyes were a bit red.

*He needs to sleep more...*

...

Valen showed up with a board that he had borrowed from Doran and began writing a couple of words on it.

"Okay, let’s start with this... As you know, there are six power systems, also known as the Mohlikat, and to—"

Suddenly, Qasim raised his hand.

"Yes?"

"I know this isn’t part of the lesson, but back when we faced that... fox, you said he didn’t use any of the Mohlikat. How is that possible?"

Valen put his hand on his chin and thought for a moment.

"Well, indeed, it’s not part of our lesson, but sure, I can explain that to my boy."

"You see, in reality, in the universe, there are no fixed or absolute rules. The Mohlikat are things that existed in the world, and we discovered or improved them. But what really makes them work in the first place is the fact that you can learn them through their rules, and there are a good number of users."

He then wrote down two words on the board and pointed at the first one.

"Well, Maker is a bit unique because you need to be born with a special condition, which means not everyone can learn it. But you can still theoretically make more of us... Although it’s not ethical, it is still possible."

He then pointed at the second word, which meant Special.

"But there are some people, or factions of people, who have supernatural abilities that aren’t related to any of the well-known Mohlikat. You can’t learn these abilities, nor can you be sure that you can create more users of them."

"Basically, they’re unique powers used by one person or a small group of people that can’t be learned or broken down into rules. And that type of people, we call them..."

He wrote down a new word before pointing at it.

"Specialists."

Then he pointed at Qasim.

"And that fox we killed was a Specialist. Is it clear now?"

Qasim’s eyes widened as he slowly nodded, confirming that he understood.

"Good. Now, back to the Steps..."

Valen cleaned the board and wrote down some basic terms.

"As you know, the Mohlikat aren’t the only things that give us supernatural powers. There are also the Steps, which are like authorities that the world itself gives us as we grow stronger."

"For example, the First Step, also known as Mahik, gives you access to your egoistical layer and improves your إدراك. The Second Step gives you a better understanding of your egoistical layer and gives you a huge boost physically and spiritually, and so on with the Third and Fourth."

"But each Step has conditions that must be met, something like a test from the world to prove that you are worthy."

Valen raised one finger before continuing.

"To become a Mahik, you need to endure the pressure from the cube. And to advance into Hilal-Awal, you need to do something almost impossible, right?"

The three of them nodded slowly as they followed his explanation closely.

"But not every Mahik is at the same level."

"For example, we can clearly see that even though Qasim only uses one type of magic spell, he could probably beat Levia if she went all out."

"Hey!!"

Levia immediately shouted at Valen before lowering her head in embarrassment.

"You don’t have to say it like that..." she said shyly, puffing out her cheeks, visibly annoyed.

"Whatever. It’s true..."

Valen shrugged before continuing.

"Anyway, why is this a thing? Well, because there is another factor of power. We call it the Step Indicator."

He then drew a ladder with eight lines on it.

"Each Step has a power scaling from one, being the weakest, to eight, being the strongest. And this scaling is what indicates the quality of your Step."

"My boy here passed the cube fragment test faster than anyone I’ve seen before. That means he’s at the very top of the Step Indicator, showing that his First Step quality is very high."

He turned his head toward Qasim and smiled.

"That’s why your so-called feeling is much stronger than a normal Mahik’s. But of course, it’s still weaker than a Hilal-Awal."

"You might ask me, then, why did he have to go through so much pain when he advanced to the Second Step?"

"And to answer that, we need to understand that he killed a Hilal-Awal while he was still a Mahik."

"Of course, we can argue that the fox was exhausted and already severely injured, but still... the tattoo decided that what he accomplished was so impressive that it gave him, I guess, a seven or even an eight on the Indicator."

Qasim raised his hand again.

"Wait. How can you tell the Indicator’s value?"

"That’s the point. You can’t."

"Even you can’t know how high your Step Indicator is. You can only guess according to certain signs. In your case, your body and soul had to go through a much longer and harder transformation than mine or Yasmin’s."

"That tells me that your Step Indicator should be high."

Qasim’s mouth fell open in shock.

"So that pain was because I was..."

"Yes, exactly."

Valen continued his sentence with an excited smile.

"Because the reward was simply too much for your body and soul to endure lightly."
