"The reason you had to go through so much pain is because your body and soul had to undergo a more complex transformation compared to Yasmin’s or mine," Valen said with an excited smile.
"I see..."
Qasim put his hand on his chin, analyzing what he had just learned.
"Well, congratulations, Qasim!"
Levia hugged the boy with a smile on her face.
"Haha, thank you, teacher."
"Oh, right! Speaking of teaching... Since you’re now a Hilal-Awal, you can learn how to make higher-rank engines!"
Qasim’s eyes widened with excitement.
"Wow! For real? That would be so cool!"
"Hold on a second. What do you think you’re doing with my student, Levia?"
Valen interrupted them with a sinister look on his face.
"I have much better things to show my boy, things that will change his life!"
Qasim turned his head and looked at Valen with sparkling eyes.
"Changing my life? That sounds amazing!"
"Yes, yes, my boy! So co—"
Before Valen could finish his sentence, Levia jumped on him and covered his mouth.
"No, no, no! He is my student, and he will learn advanced magic first!"
Valen struggles so much to turn Levia upside down, his movement were rusty like the baby when they first learn to walk, then he start arguing with her.
"Your little magic can wait! My lessons are far more important, and the boy is coming with me!"
The two of them basically started barking at each other over who would teach the boy first.
But then Qasim surprised them both.
"Umm, actually, I can’t come with either of you today."
Both of them looked at the boy in surprise.
"I missed my friend Kevin. I’ll spend the day with him instead..."
...
Kevin was standing in front of a large tree close to the TaskJam building, waiting for his friend to show up.
After some time, the two boys finally met up again after being apart for more than three days.
"Kevin! How are you doing?"
"I’m pretty sure I’m doing better than you, haha. What even happened?"
Kevin looked at his friend with worried eyes.
"It’s like you disappeared for two days, and when I saw you yesterday, you were so exhausted that I didn’t want to... you know."
Qasim gave him a warm smile and explained that everything was fine now.
"Can I tell you something? But it’s so secret that you can’t tell anyone about it, okay?"
Kevin saw how serious his friend was and promised to keep the secret.
"I killed the terrorist who caused that horrible day..."
Kevin’s eyes widened, and his lips began to tremble in shock.
"You mean..."
"Yeah... The person who... killed her is now dead..."
Qasim stopped for a second before adding,
"By my hands."
Kevin looked at Qasim for a moment as tears began forming in his big eyes.
Then he lowered his head.
"So while you were there, risking your life to make those bad people pay for what they did, I was here doing nothing..."
"I don’t know what you do, Qasim, but I know it’s something serious and probably secret, so you can’t tell me. But..."
He raised his head and placed his hands on Qasim’s shoulders as tears began falling from his eyes.
"Thank you for taking revenge on those who killed our friend... I hope she can rest in peace now..."
Qasim remained silent for a while, lost in his thoughts.
Then he shook his head and took Kevin’s hand as they started moving forward.
"Come on, don’t say that. She’s our friend, and we know she wouldn’t be happy if we stayed sad like this..."
He looked up at the sky and slightly quickened his pace.
"The best thing we can do to honor her is to make the camera project the next big thing that everyone will use and love!"
He then turned his head back toward Kevin.
"That way, she’ll live forever through her ideas!"
Kevin simply stood there, his eyes wide as he looked at his friend in a new light.
"Ha... You seem like you’ve changed, Qasim. Almost like you’re a new person."
"Is that bad?"
"No..."
Kevin moved beside his friend with a big smile.
"You’re inspiring me to become a better person too."
...
The two boys then went to Melissa’s house, where they met her mother.
The beautiful, wealthy woman now looked like someone who had lost all meaning in life after her daughter was gone.
First, it was my husband, the love of my life... Now my daughter, the only light in my life...
She was mentally exhausted, so when the two boys showed up, she didn’t expect much.
But then they told her about Melissa’s dream.
They showed her all the hard work her daughter had put in, everything she had personally taught them, along with all the business and management tricks she had taught them.
It was beautiful to see how her daughter had been growing into the very best woman she could become.
"Ahh... Melissa, my baby... my baby..."
She began crying again like a little child, speaking between sobs as her words became choked with emotion.
"I-I am very... agh... very p-proud of you, my baby..."
Indeed, she was.
And she would always be proud of her precious Melissa.
She would always be grateful that she had been the mother of such a wonderful child.
...
After some time, the two boys left the house after making sure that the camera project would continue.
Then they went to play in the children’s yard, just like they used to.
Although there weren’t many kids around, they still managed to have their innocent fun.
They smiled.
They laughed.
They played until they were sweaty.
And for a while, they truly, truly felt like kids again.
...
The two boys were now sitting inside a coffee shop, watching the sunset while enjoying warm, delicious milk.
"Qasim... I need to tell you something important."
Kevin suddenly spoke without looking at Qasim.
The white-haired boy felt something hurt inside his chest, as if he already knew what Kevin was about to say.
"It’s time for me, my friend... After three days, I have to leave this kingdom..."
"Ahh..."
Both of them continued looking at the sunset, unable to see each other’s expressions.
"That was fast..." Qasim said in a weak voice.
He had always known this day would come.
It had been two months since they first had this conversation, so Qasim had always been prepared.
But still...
He didn’t know how the time had passed this fast...
And just as he was about to speak, Kevin suddenly declared in a loud voice,
"I will study so hard to become a famous historian and make so much money that I’ll be able to return and live here!"
Qasim almost jumped at the sudden loud voice.
Then his eyes widened as he finally looked at his friend.
The owl boy was still focused on the sunset, but tears were dripping from his eyes. His cheeks were red, and a sad expression was painted across his face.
"So!.."
He then turned to meet Qasim’s eyes with a determined look.
"So promise me that we’ll stay friends until then!"
Qasim simply looked at him for a moment, trying to hold back his tears.
Then he smiled.
It was a strange smile, one that clearly tried to hide the sadness on his face.
"Are you stupid? Of course we’ll stay friends! You didn’t have to make such a fuss. I’m so embarrassed now..."
Kevin’s face became red when he realized that he had indeed made an unnecessary scene.
"S-Sorry! It’s just... you’re my first friend, and I was afraid you might..."
"Okay, okay. Don’t worry..."
Qasim paused for a moment before looking back at the sunset.
"Then I’ll be here, waiting for my best friend to return."
