Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me
Chapter 201: A DIFFICULT CHOICE TO MAKEAuthor’s POV
Keisha stared at Nadia as though she had just told her something impossible.
For several seconds, she couldn’t even form a response. The idea that the entire pack could be talking about her, Callum and Dane was bad enough, but the thought of what they would say about Callum made her chest tighten. He was their Alpha, and everything he did was already watched closely by the council. If the pack truly believed he had hidden a bond with her and allowed her to become pregnant while keeping it from everyone, she couldn’t imagine how quickly people would turn the situation against him.
"I don’t understand how this happened," Keisha said, shaking her head as she walked farther into the sitting room. "How did they even find out? We’ve spent so much time keeping this away from everyone, and now you’re telling me that people are discussing it like it’s something they have always known."
Nadia moved toward her and gently took her arm. "Don’t start thinking about what everyone might say before Dad has even had the chance to handle it. It’s no use if he addresses it, everyone has what they think to be true already."
"But what about him?" Keisha asked, looking at her with obvious concern. "That’s what I’m worried about. They aren’t going to look at me and only blame me. They’re going to question him. He’s the Alpha, Nadia. Every mistake he makes becomes something they use against him, and now they have something this big to talk about."
Nadia squeezed her arm. "For the goddess sake, let him deal with it. I’m certain he didn’t tell you for this reason, don’t make me regret telling you. Now come."
Keisha tried to answer, but Nadia was already leading her upstairs. She kept one hand around Keisha’s arm, slowing her pace whenever she noticed her becoming distracted, and once they reached the bedroom, she immediately went to the table and poured her something to drink.
"Sit down and breathe," Nadia said as she handed the glass to her. "You’re thinking about ten different things at once, and none of them are helping you right now."
Keisha took the glass with both hands. "I just don’t want this to hurt them."
"It won’t if you let Dad and Dane handle what they’re supposed to handle. You just sit and calm down."
Keisha drank slowly, allowing the cool liquid to calm her down. Nadia stayed beside her for a while, talking about random stuff whenever Keisha’s thoughts began drifting back toward the rumors.
Nadia finally stood. "I’m going to leave you to rest. If you need me, call me, because I’m not going far."
Keisha managed a small smile. "Go before you start treating me like one of the babies."
Nadia laughed as she reached the door. "You already act like you need protecting, so don’t blame me."
When the door closed behind her, Keisha leaned back against the headboard and stared at the ceiling. She had barely been alone for a few minutes when her phone began ringing.
She looked at the screen.
Klein.
Keisha answered immediately. "Uncle?"
"I heard about what is happening." He went straight to the point.
She sat up. "How did you hear?"
"I have people watching the situation around the estate, Keisha. I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t know when something like this happened. The rumors have spread faster than I expected, and with the Duskfen situation becoming more serious, you cannot continue pretending that staying inside the estate is the safest option."
Keisha’s expression tightened. "What are you suggesting?"
"I’m suggesting that you leave before this becomes worse. Come to me, even if it’s only temporarily. You can bring whoever you trust, and I’ll make arrangements for your protection."
She immediately shook her head, even though he couldn’t see her. "No."
His tone turned resigned. "Keisha, listen to me before you make a decision."
"I’ve already made it."
Klein sighed. "You’re letting your attachment to Callum and Dane cloud your judgment. I mean it’s not as though I’m asking you to throw them to the wolves. I’m telling you that you are becoming the easiest person for their enemies to use. They’ve already attacked you several times, and now the pack knows about the bond. If things become violent, the council will look for someone to blame, and you know exactly who they’re going to point at."
Keisha’s fingers tightened around the phone. "Then I’ll deal with that when it happens."
"They could blame you for everything that has gone wrong. They could claim Callum has been distracted because of you, that the pregnancy has weakened the Alpha’s judgment, that you’ve brought instability into the pack. And even though it’s far from the truth, they only need enough frightened people to believe their version."
Her chest tightened." I know that."
"Very good. Then why are you staying?"
Keisha took a slow breath before answering. "Because I belong with them. Callum and Dane aren’t going to send me away because things have become difficult, and I’m not going to disappear the moment they need me beside them. You are telling me to think about the bigger picture, but they are part of that picture too."
Klein’s voice softened. "And what happens if staying puts you and those children in danger?"
"Then I’ll trust the people who have been protecting me."
Klein hesitated. "You trust them that much?"
"Yes." The answer came more firmly than she expected.
Klein remained silent for a moment. "It’s your decision, just promise me you’ll think about what I’ve said."
She paused, then nodded "I will." Keisha looked down at her stomach before answering. "I’ll consider everything, but I’m not leaving them now."
Klein exhaled heavily. "You sound exactly like your mother."
That made Keisha smile faintly. "How charming, you know that’s not such a bad thing."
He conceded. "No, it isn’t. Just remember that trusting someone doesn’t mean you stop protecting yourself or putting yourself first."
"I won’t."
They said their goodbyes, and the call ended. Keisha lowered the phone but didn’t immediately put it away.
She trusted Callum and Dane.
But what if Klein was right? What if she was putting herself in danger by staying?
***************
Several miles away, Orin remained seated against the cold wall of the room where he had been kept for days. His throat was dry, and when the door finally opened, he lifted his head toward the guard entering with a small container of water.
"Give me that," Orin said, reaching toward him.
The guard approached but kept his distance as he placed the water within reach. "Drink it and stop causing trouble."
Orin took several gulps before looking up at him. "You know the woman you’re working for isn’t here."
The guard didn’t respond and Orin continued. "Then let me go."
The guard gave him a flat look. "Absolutely not."
Orin leaned forward as far as his restraints allowed. "She isn’t here. You know she isn’t. If she comes back and finds out you let me escape, you’ll have a little problem, but if she never comes back and I die in here, you’ll have even bigger problems when she realizes you allowed it."
The guard picked up the empty container after Orin finished drinking. "You’re not going anywhere." He hissed, then turned and walked toward the door.
Orin watched him leave, his expression changing as he realized the guard had not checked his restraints carefully enough.
He waited until the footsteps disappeared before working at the restraints around his wrists. It took time, patience and several attempts, but eventually he managed to free one hand. He immediately worked on the other, and when both hands were finally loose, he stood.
The door opened again as the guard returned and froze when he saw Orin standing. "You—"
Orin lunged before the guard could react, knocking him aside and rushing through the doorway. He didn’t stop to see whether the man would recover quickly. He ran through the passageways, following the route he remembered from when he’d first been brought there.
He had spent too long locked away. Too long being kept from the person he couldn’t stop thinking about.
As he finally reached the outside, Orin drew a deep breath and looked toward the road leading back toward the pack.
"Keisha," he muttered, already moving.
He had one thing on his mind — he needed to see his woman.
