Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me
Chapter 202: THE INITIALKeisha’s POV
I had to be doing something.
I couldn’t always be sitting around waiting for everyone else to tell me what was happening.
Every time something happened, someone would arrive with another warning, another explanation or another reason why I should stay away from the investigation.
The heat incident had changed everything. It had brought about the bond between me, Callum and Dane, it had resulted in my pregnancy, and it had somehow become connected to almost every threat that had followed me since then.
That— was my target.
I picked up my phone and called Klein.
He answered after a few rings. "Keisha, I was actually going to call you. There have been some developments regarding the organization, and I think we need to discuss them."
"I’ll listen to those later. Right now, I want everything you’ve investigated concerning the heat incident. Send me every document, report, name and piece of information you’ve collected since you started looking into it."
There was a pause on the other end. "Why are you asking for all of that?"
I took a deep breath. "Because I’m going through it myself."
Klein sounded exasperated and he chose his words carefully. "Keisha, you’ve been through enough. You shouldn’t be putting yourself under unnecessary stress, especially this close to your delivery. Let the men handle the investigation. That’s what they’re there for."
I leaned back against the chair. "Uncle, I appreciate that you’re worried about me, but I’ve been sitting here while people investigate something that happened to me. I know the risks better than anyone because I was the one who lived through them. Send me the files."
He paused. "Look. You’re making this harder than it needs to be."
"Just— don’t argue."
He sighed. "I’ll send what I have, but I still don’t think you should be doing this."
"Send it anyway." I brushed it aside.
I ended the call before he could continue.
I knew Klein was trying to protect me, but everyone seemed to have the same idea lately. Callum wanted to protect me, Dane wanted to protect me, Klein wanted to protect me, and even Nadia had started watching me like I might disappear if she looked away for too long. I appreciated all of it, but protection didn’t erase my need to understand what had happened.
I left the room and headed toward the hall, only to see Dane walking out through the doors with several papers in his hands. He was dressed for work, his expression serious and distracted, and he looked like someone who had barely had time to breathe since the news about the Duskfen had arrived.
"Dane." I called out before he could walk past in his haste.
He stopped and looked at me immediately. "What are you doing out here?"
"I came looking for you."
His eyes moved briefly toward my stomach before returning to my face. "What do you need?"
I straightened. "I want everything you’ve found on the heat incident."
He stared at me.
"Everything, Dane. Whatever you found from Dr Fenn, the autopsy report, the information about the maid, the purchase records,, look, just whatever you found while investigating the clinic. I want all of it." I explained.
He slowly lowered the papers in his hand. "Wait. You’re serious."
"Very." I nodded.
Dane rubbed his jaw, looking at me for several seconds before giving a quiet sigh. "Fine. Come with me."
He led me to his apartment and began pulling files from different places. He put the documents across the table one after another until there was barely any empty space left.
"Take your time with these," he said as he placed Dr. Fenn’s journal in front of me. "Some of the information is difficult to follow because Fenn kept notes about several patients in the same book, but the relevant sections are marked."
I picked up the journal. "You found this at her clinic?"
He nodded. "Yes. I went through almost everything in her office before I found it."
I opened the first few pages, scanning the handwriting. "And the purchase record?"
Dane reached across the table and handed me a photocopy. "That’s from the heat accelerant purchase. I found the receipt among Fenn’s records. We already knew the substance came through her clinic, but the purchase itself gave us another direction to investigate."
I placed it beside the journal and continued through the documents.
Dane remained beside me for a while, watching as I moved from one page to another. Eventually, he stepped closer and wrapped an arm around me, pulling me gently against him.
"You’ve got a lot on your mind," he said quietly. "If you wanna talk about anything else, you should let me know, okay?"
A small smile tugged at my lips as I looked up at him. "I know."
He brushed his thumb over my cheek before leaning down and kissing me.
"I have to go," he murmured. "There’s too much happening with the borders right now, and Callum needs me."
"Go." I muttered.
He gave me another look before leaving, and I returned to the table.
I spent the next several minutes going through the documents carefully.
Then I picked up the photocopy of the purchase record again and something caught my eye.
It was a small initial written near the purchase information. It was easy to miss, especially because the photocopy wasn’t particularly clear, but I stared at it for several seconds.
I knew that mark.
I had known Vera since I was a child. I had seen her sign documents, write notes and mark things countless times over the years. That particular way of writing the initial was unmistakably hers.
My stomach tightened. "V."
I picked up my phone and took a photograph of the photocopy before sending it to Nadia.
My message was simple. "Do you recognize this?"
Her reply came quickly. "Yes. That’s Aunt Vera’s initial. Why?"
I stared at the screen. Before I could answer, another message appeared. "Keisha? What’s going on?"
I took a shuddering breath, but I didn’t tell her.
Instead, I put my phone down and returned to the documents.
So, it really was hers.
Vera.
My phone buzzed again, but this time it was an incoming file from Klein and I opened it immediately.
His report contained everything he’d gathered about the organization, including the investigation into the assassin who had attacked me at the mansion. I read through the pages, stopping when I reached the section concerning the maid.
The information matched what Dane had discovered.
The maid had connections to the organizational, and she had been communicating with someone inside the estate.
And the payment connected to her recruitment had been traced back through several channels until the investigation reached a name.
I read it again and my heart nearly stopped at the confirmation.
Vera.
