Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me
Chapter 207: THE FIRST CONFRONTATIONKeisha’s POV
After leaving Callum to continue with his work, I returned to Dane’s apartment with the documents I’d collected from the library. I spread everything across his desk and went through the information again, comparing Dr. Fenn’s notes with the records I had already gathered.
I made myself a cup of tea while I worked, occasionally leaving the documents to search through another file before returning to the same pages.
None of this was enough to accuse her. I needed something stronger than her initial on a photocopy before I could accuse anyone.
I rested my back against the chair and stared at the documents for several minutes.
Getting the financial records was proving harder than I would like. I needed access to her financial activity, but getting that information wasn’t something I could casually request from Callum or Dane. The moment either of them heard what I was planning, they’d probably insist on handling it themselves.
I picked up my phone and called Klein.. "Can you look into someone’s financial records for me?" I asked when he answered.
There was a brief pause before he responded. "Depending on who you’re asking about and how much access you need, I might be able to. What exactly are you trying to find?"
"I need Vera’s financial records, particularly anything connected to payments made around the time of the heat incident. I want to know if there’s a transaction that could connect her to the purchase."
Klein became quiet again, and I could tell he was thinking through what I had asked. "I can probably get the records, but there’s a problem if you want more than the public financial information. If we’re trying to find hidden transactions or communications connected to the payments, we’ll need access to her phone."
I frowned. "Her phone?"
"Yes. If we can clone it, we can check her messages, payment notifications and anything else that might help us establish where the money went. Without that, we’re working with only half the information."
I looked toward the documents spread across Dane’s desk. "Then I’ll get her phone."
"Kiesha, don’t rush into anything. You’re pregnant, and whatever you’re investigating isn’t going to disappear because you take a day to think about it."
"I’ve already decided what I’m doing. Just tell me what you need from me."
Klein sighed on the other end. "I’ll send you the details."
"Good. I’ll wait for them." I ended the call and gathered the documents before leaving Dane’s apartment. I had barely reached the sitting room when I found Nadia waiting for me.
She was standing near the center of the room with her arms folded, and from the expression on her face, I immediately knew something was wrong.
"Where have you been?" Nadia asked.
I stopped. "I’ve been with Dane."
"You’ve been disappearing all day, and nobody seems to know what you’re doing."
"I’ve been investigating." I replied.
Her eyebrows pulled together. "Investigating what?"
I could already tell from her tone that this wasn’t a normal question. "The things that have been happening to me obviously. What else?"
Nadia stared at me for a moment before speaking again. "Why?"
I frowned. "What do you mean, why?"
"Why are you digging into all of this when there’s already a war coming and everyone is worried about what happens next? You’ve been going through records, talking to people and looking for information without telling anyone."
My brows furrowed. "I’m trying to help Callum and Dane."
Nadia shook her head. "That’s not what I heard."
I looked at her carefully. "Then tell me what you heard."
She hesitated, and I could see that she wasn’t comfortable with the conversation anymore. "There are people who think you’re doing something against the pack."
I stared at her in disbelief. "Me?"
Nadia nodded slowly. "I know how it sounds, but I’ve heard the same thing from more than one person."
I stepped closer to her. "Nadia, I have spent weeks being attacked, threatened and nearly killed. Why would I suddenly decide that I want to destroy the same pack I’m living in?"
"I don’t know." She groaned.
"Then why are you asking me all this?"
"I’m not deciding anything." Nadia’s voice softened. "I’m asking because I was worried."
I took a breath and forced myself to calm down. "I’ve been trying to find out who was behind everything that happened to me. I found things that don’t make sense, and I think there are people inside the estate who may know more than they’re saying. That’s why I’ve been looking through the records."
Nadia lowered her arms. "You should have told me."
"I didn’t think there was anything to tell yet. Not until I’m sure."
She looked down for a moment before finally admitting what had brought her to confront me. "My aunt spoke to me."
I became more attentive. "About me?"
"Yes."
"What did she say?" My tone became harder.
Nadia explained everything Vera had told her, including the documents she had been shown and the concerns Vera had raised about my access to information through the communications office. She didn’t make it sound like Vera had accused me outright. Instead, she explained that Vera had been worried that I might be getting involved in things that could eventually harm the pack.
When Nadia finished, I was quiet for a moment. "So she thinks I’m trying to ruin the pack."
"She didn’t exactly say that." She corrected.
"But that’s what the documents were meant to make you think."
Nadia looked uncomfortable. "I didn’t know what to believe."
I stepped toward her and took her hands. "Thank you for telling me."
She looked at me in surprise. "You’re not angry?"
"I was angry when you first accused me, but I’m not angry anymore. I’d rather you come to me and ask than believe something about me and keep it to yourself."
Nadia’s expression softened. "I shouldn’t have come at you like that," she admitted. "I should have asked you first instead of assuming the worst."
I pulled her into a hug. "You were worried. I understand."
She hugged me back, but I could feel that she was still troubled.. "I’m sorry, Keisha."
"You don’t have to keep apologizing."
She sighed. "I really don’t know what to think anymore."
I didn’t tell her about Vera’s name appearing on anything right now.
There was still too much I didn’t know, and I wasn’t going to accuse her aunt based on suspicion alone.
But Vera telling Nadia all that? What was she playing at?
