Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me
Chapter 208: UNEXPECTED VISITORSKeisha’s POV
When Nadia and I finally broke the hug, I remembered what I’d been thinking about before the conversation between us had gotten so serious.
If I wanted to understand what Vera was really doing, staying away from her wasn’t going to help me. I needed to get close enough to watch her myself, and considering everything Nadia had just told me, visiting her together would give me the perfect excuse.
"I think we should go see your aunt," I said, watching Nadia’s expression carefully. "Since she was worried enough about me to speak to you about what I’ve been doing, I’d rather talk to her directly. We can clear everything up instead of allowing everyone to keep making assumptions about each other."
Nadia considered it for a moment before nodding. "I think that’s actually a good idea. She’ll probably be relieved that you aren’t angry with her, and maybe she’ll explain exactly what made her suspicious in the first place."
I smiled. "I hope so, because I don’t want this becoming another problem inside the estate."
Nadia smiled faintly. "Then go change. I’ll wait here."
I headed upstairs, and just as I reached my room, my phone vibrated with a message from Klein. I opened it and found the information he’d promised to send me earlier. It contained what I needed for the surveillance arrangement we’d discussed, along with a warning that I needed to be careful about how I handled it.
I read through it quickly before locking my phone.
I wasn’t entirely comfortable with what I was about to do, but I also knew that I couldn’t afford to walk into Vera’s annex without paying attention to everything around me.
I changed my dress, fixed my hair and returned downstairs where Nadia was already waiting. "Ready?"
I picked up my handbag. "Let’s go."
We left the mansion together and headed toward the annex where Vera had been staying.
Vera was visibly surprised when she opened the door. "Keisha? Nadia?" she asked, looking between us. "I wasn’t expecting either of you."
Nadia smiled as she stepped inside. "We thought we’d come and see you."
Vera’s attention shifted to me, and I noticed the brief change in her expression before she covered it with a smile. "Of course. Come in."
We entered, and Vera directed us toward the sitting area. She was still looking at me carefully, almost as though she was trying to determine whether Nadia had told me everything.
I decided not to make her wait. "Nadia told me about the conversation you had with her."
Vera’s smile remained in place, but I noticed the slight pause before she responded. "She did?"
"She did. I thought it would be better if we spoke about it instead of leaving her caught between the two of us."
Vera sat down across from us and crossed her legs. "I hope you didn’t misunderstand what I told her. I wasn’t accusing you of anything. I was concerned because of the things I’d seen, and Nadia is someone I trust."
"I understand that," I replied, keeping my tone calm. "That’s actually why I wanted to come here. I don’t want there to be unnecessary tension between us."
Vera smiled again. "I’m glad you came."
I looked around the room before turning my attention back to her. "So, how are you finding the annex?"
"It’s comfortable. A little quieter than the mansion, which I’ve actually enjoyed." She admitted.
"I noticed you’ve been spending more time here than at the mansion."
Vera shrugged casually. "There was no particular reason. I simply wanted some privacy."
"After everything happening in the pack, I would have thought you’d prefer being around everyone." My smile was a bit terse.
She gave a small laugh. "Sometimes being around everyone is exactly why someone wants privacy."
I smiled politely, but I wasn’t satisfied with the answer.
Vera had chosen to move into the annex at a very convenient time. She had access to the mansion whenever she wanted, yet she’d decided to stay somewhere else while everything around Callum was becoming increasingly unstable. I wanted to know why, but she was clearly not going to give me the answer willingly.
Vera’s phone was lying on the table beside her.
She picked it up and started checking something on the screen while continuing our conversation.
"I hope you aren’t still upset with me," she said. "The last thing I want is for you to think I was deliberately trying to turn Nadia against you."
"I don’t think that." I immediately told her.
She looked up. "You don’t?"
"I think you were worried about the pack, and you wanted to protect it. That’s what you told Nadia, at least." I nodded.
Vera studied me for a second before setting her phone back down. "I appreciate that." She stood up. "I’ll make some tea for you both."
I watched her walk toward the kitchen before speaking. "Actually, could you make us something to eat too? We haven’t had anything since earlier, and I’m starting to get hungry."
Vera stopped and for a moment, she simply looked at me. "Something to eat?"
I smiled innocently. "If it’s not too much trouble."
Her eyes narrowed slightly before she forced another smile. "Of course. I’ll prepare something."
She picked up her phone from the table before walking away with it and I watched her disappear into the kitchen.
That hadn’t gone according to plan.
I had hoped she’d leave the phone behind, but she had taken it with her. I sat back and tried not to let my frustration show.
Nadia looked at me. "What?"
"Nothing."
She glanced toward the kitchen. "You were staring at her phone."
"I was just thinking." I muttered under my breath.
Diane shifted in my head. "Now what? We wait?"
I groaned inwardly. "No, we don’t."
"About what?" Nadia’s words snapped me out of my thoughts.
I shook my head. "I’ll tell you later."
A few minutes passed before Nadia stood. "I’ll go help her."
I looked at her. "You don’t have to."
Nadia looked down at me. "I know, but she’s making food for us." She disappeared into the kitchen before I could say anything else.
I immediately picked up my phone and checked the information Klein had sent me. I had to work quickly. I didn’t have much time alone.
I followed the arrangement Klein had prepared, careful not to alter anything beyond what we had agreed on. Once it was done, I put my phone away and made sure nothing about my actions was obvious.
Then I walked into the kitchen. "What are you two making?" I asked, approaching them with a smile.
Vera looked over her shoulder. "Nothing complicated. I thought you’d be hungry, so I’m preparing something quick."
Nadia laughed. "You should have seen her face when you asked for food. I thought she’d throw us out."
Vera laughed along with her. "I wasn’t expecting guests, that’s all."
I leaned against the counter. "Then let me help."
Vera handed me something to prepare, and I joined them as though nothing unusual had happened.
While Nadia continued talking to her aunt, I watched Vera carefully. She looked completely relaxed.
If she was hiding something, she was very good at pretending she wasn’t.
