Oops… I Went Into Heat and My Alpha Daddies Claimed Me
Chapter 224: LOOSE ENDSAuthor’s POV
When Keisha woke up, the chair beside her bed was empty.
For several seconds, she remained still, staring at the ceiling while her mind slowly caught up with everything that had happened.
Dane had been there when she fell asleep, and she remembered the last thing he had done before leaving her alone — pulling the blanket properly over her and telling her that she needed to rest.
Apparently, at some point after she drifted off, he had left. She pushed herself upright carefully, waiting for the brief dizziness to pass before placing her feet on the floor.
The nurse stationed outside noticed her movement almost immediately and came into the room, asking if she needed anything.
Keisha glanced toward the empty chair and asked whether Dane had said where he was going. The nurse told her he had only said that he would be back and had asked them to make sure she rested. Keisha thanked her, then looked toward the small tray that had been brought into the room.
"You should eat something," the nurse encouraged as she adjusted the tray closer to the bed. "Even if it’s only a little."
Keisha shook her head, pushing the tray away slightly. "I’m not hungry. I’ll eat later."
The nurse clearly wasn’t convinced, but she didn’t argue. She reminded Keisha to call if she felt dizzy again before leaving the room. Keisha waited until the door closed before reaching for her phone. There was one person she needed to speak to, even if she already suspected what he would say.
Klein answered after several rings.
"Are you awake?" His voice carried immediate concern, and Keisha could hear movement on the other end as though he had been doing something when she called. "I had to check in with Callum, but I’m glad you called."
"I’m fine now," Keisha replied, though she knew that wasn’t really the point. "I need you to help me with something."
There was a pause.. "With what?"
"Nadia."
Klein went quiet, not replying.
Keisha sat farther back against the pillows, lowering her voice as she explained what Dane had told her about Nadia collapsing while preparing the herb tea, the diagnosis of wolfsbane poisoning, and the fact that Nadia had been transferred to another hospital because her condition was more serious than Keisha’s.
"I want you to investigate it," Keisha said when she finished. "Find out where the herb came from, who handled it, who could have done it, anything that might explain how it happened."
"I can try," Klein answered, but there was a hesitation in his voice that immediately caught her attention. "The problem is that this one is different from the others."
"How?"
"Because everything happened inside the mansion. I don’t have the same reach there that I had with the financial records or the people moving around outside the estate. If the herb was already inside the kitchen, then I need someone on the inside to tell me what happened before Nadia collapsed. I can investigate from my side, but I can’t promise I’ll find anything useful."
Keisha looked down at her phone, frustration settling heavily in her chest. "So we’re stuck again."
"I didn’t say that."
"You didn’t have to." She rubbed her forehead and exhaled. "Fine. Just look into whatever you can. Even if it’s something small."
"I will," Klein assured her. "And Keisha?"
"Hmm?"
"Take care of yourself."
After they ended the call, Keisha remained staring at the screen for several seconds. Klein had to find something.
The report reached Vera later that morning.
She was in the annex when Elder Osric entered and quietly closed the door behind him.
She looked up from the papers on the table, studying his expression before asking what had happened.
Osric did not waste time with unnecessary details. The matter concerning the prisoner had been handled, and there had been no complications.
The guards outside the prison had been dealt with first, allowing him and the two men accompanying him to enter without drawing attention.
The prisoner had not been given an opportunity to alert anyone, and by the time the body was discovered, the work was already finished.
Vera listened without interrupting, her expression gradually settling into satisfaction. "And the prisoner?"
"He’s dead," Osric replied calmly. "He didn’t say anything."
Vera leaned back in her chair. Good.
"You handled it well," she said. "There was no trouble?"
"None." He shook his head.
Vera nodded slowly. "Good. You’ve done more than enough for us already, Osric. I appreciate your loyalty."
The elder bowed his head slightly. "You know I will continue doing whatever is necessary."
"I know." Vera’s gaze remained on him for another moment before she dismissed him, and Osric left the room without another word.
The previous night had been smooth.
Osric had arrived at the prison with two men shortly after everything had quietened down.
The guards stationed outside were still watching the entrance, completely unaware of why the three men had come.
Osric had stepped forward, speaking to them. Their expressions flickered between fear and confusion before they stepped aside for Osric.
The prisoner immediately recognized Osric when he approached.
He had already spent enough time in their custody to understand exactly what the elder’s presence meant, and the moment Osric stopped in front of him, his expression changed.
"You know the rules," Osric told him, his voice calm. "You’ve known them from the beginning, and you’ve had enough time to understand what happens when someone decides to break them."
The prisoner said nothing.
Osric continued, making sure there was no confusion about what he was offering.
If the man remained silent and caused no trouble, his family would be taken care of. They would not be abandoned because of his decision, and Osric made it clear that their safety depended on the prisoner making the right choice. The man already knew what the organization expected from him.
Osric then produced a small flour snack and placed it within his reach. Hidden inside were two pills.
He looked at the prisoner for a final moment. "The choice is yours."
With that, Osric turned and walked away.
The two men followed him, leaving the prisoner alone with the decision in front of him.
For several moments, he simply stared down at what had been left behind. His hands remained still as he thought about his family and everything that would happen to them if he betrayed the people he had sworn to protect. He knew exactly what information the others wanted from him, and he knew that speaking would put more than his own life at risk.
Eventually, he made his choice. Osric had offered him a way out.
And he was going to take it.
