Chapter 164: Chapter

The small fire flickered softly against the cave walls, casting long shadows over the three of them. Outside, the blizzard howled like an angry beast, completely blocking out the rest of the world.

Wenzhe sat on the cold dirt floor, holding Yueqing’s upper body tightly against his chest. He kept one hand firmly pressed over her freezing fingers, trying to rub warmth back into her skin. Across from him, Xiao Chen sat on a flat rock, his eyes fixed on Yueqing’s pale face as he held a cup of hot medicine near the flames.

"Her hands are still as cold as ice," Wenzhe growled, his voice rough and full of tension. "Your medicine isn’t working."

"It takes time, Wenzhe," Xiao Chen replied coldly, not looking up. "She was buried under snow for nearly an hour. Her body needs to warm up slowly. If you force her to drink too fast while she is unconscious, she will choke."

Wenzhe shifted slightly, but a sudden sharp pain shot through his ribs, making him gasp through his teeth. Fresh blood dripped from beneath his torn armor, staining the white fur blanket.

Xiao Chen glanced at Wenzhe’s chest, his eyes narrowing. "You’re going to bleed to death before morning if you don’t dress that wound. If you collapse, you’ll just end up crushing her."

"I don’t need your concern," Wenzhe snapped, tightening his arm around her. "Worry about your own men up on the mountain."

"I am not concerned about you," Xiao Chen said evenly, taking a clean cloth from his bundle and tossing it across the fire. "I am concerned about Yueqing. If she wakes up and sees you covered in blood, it will only stress her heart further."

Wenzhe’s head snapped up, his dark eyes flashing with pure rage. "Stop calling her Yueqing! You have no right to speak her name so freely, Prince. She is Madam Xi, my wife."

Xiao Chen let out a bitter, cold laugh. "Why play pretend, General? The two of you aren’t even in love with each other. Forcing her to put up with this marriage will only get her killed."

"Say that again and I’ll cut your tongue out," Wenzhe hissed, stepping forward with his fist tightly clenched.

While the two men glared at each other across the fire, deep inside the dark void of Yueqing’s mind, a quiet ping echoed.

[System 009: Temperature rising... Vital signs stabilizing... Host, your core function is returning! You must wake up now!]

Yueqing’s heavy eyelids fluttered softly. The icy, numb feeling in her body was slowly turning into a warm, dull ache.

[Nine...?] Yueqing called out weakly in her thoughts. [Where... where am I...? Did they find me...?]

[System 009: Yes! Both Target Male Lead General Wenzhe and Second Male Lead Prince Xiao Chen are in the cave with you! However, their conflict levels are dangerously high! If they start fighting again, the cave structure could be at risk!]

A tiny, soft gasp escaped Yueqing’s lips.

The sound was faint, but to Wenzhe and Xiao Chen, it was like thunder.

Both men froze instantly.

"Yueqing?" Wenzhe whispered softly, leaning his face close to hers, his heart hammering against his chest. "Yueqing, can you hear me?"

Xiao Chen immediately scrambled off his rock, dropping to his knees on the other side of her. "Yueqing! Open your eyes!"

Yueqing slowly forced her eyes open. Her vision was blurry at first, taking in the orange glow of the fire, the rough stone ceiling above, and then two frantic, blood-stained faces leaning over her.

She looked at Wenzhe, whose dark eyes were red and filled with raw fear, his bloody clothes smelling strongly of iron. Then she looked at Xiao Chen, who was holding a cup of medicine, his usual calm look completely shattered.

[Oh great...] Yueqing thought, feeling an instant headache forming behind her eyes. [Of all the places to wake up... I’m stuck in a cave with both of them while I’m half-dead.]

"Water..." Yueqing managed to croak out, her throat completely dry.

"Here," both Wenzhe and Xiao Chen said at the exact same time, each trying to hand her a cup first while glaring furiously at one another.

Yueqing reached out a weak, shaking hand and took Wenzhe’s cup.

A small look of relief flashed across Wenzhe’s face. He quickly moved behind her, placing his arm gently around her back to help her sit up against his chest. He held the bottom of the cup, tilting it carefully so she could drink without spilling.

Xiao Chen’s jaw tightened as his hand froze in mid-air holding his own cup. He let out a quiet, bitter breath, lowering his hand and pulling back to give them space.

The warm liquid went down Yueqing’s dry throat, soothing the sharp burn in her chest.

[Ah... much better,] Yueqing thought, leaning her heavy head back against Wenzhe’s broad, blood-soaked shoulder.

Wenzhe froze for a quick second, his heart beating fast in his chest as her thoughts echoed clearly in his mind. Relief washed over him so fast his hands almost trembled.

"Drink slowly," Wenzhe whispered near her ear, his voice softer than Xiao Chen had ever heard it. "Do not rush."

Yueqing finished the last drop and let out a soft sigh, her eyes still heavy with sleep. She looked up at Wenzhe’s pale face, noticing the blood soaking through his clothes.

[Wait... why is he bleeding so much? Did he get hurt looking for me...?] Yueqing wondered in her mind. [He looks like he is about to faint... stupid man, always ignoring his own body.]

Wenzhe smiled softly despite the pain in his chest. He held her a little closer, resting his head gently near hers.

Across the fire, Xiao Chen’s eyes narrowed as he watched them. Even though neither of them spoke out loud, the closeness between Wenzhe and Yueqing was something he could not break.

"She needs more medicine, General," Xiao Chen said coldly, breaking the quiet as he held out a small bottle. "Or do you plan to keep her sitting in the cold all night?"

Wenzhe did not look at Xiao Chen, keeping his eyes on Yueqing’s face. "Give it to me," he said quietly, taking the bottle without starting another fight.

"Take your hands off her, General," Xiao Chen said coldly.

"She is my wife," Wenzhe growled, his face dark with rage. "You have no right to be here, Prince."

"I have every right," Xiao Chen sneered, stepping closer. "You almost got her killed tonight. You do not deserve her."

Both men drew their swords, the cold metal shining in the firelight.

Yueqing’s head pounded from their loud, stupid arguing. She was exhausted, cold, and her ribs hurt. She looked down and saw a heavy green stone sitting on top of Xiao Chen’s bag. It was a smooth piece of jade used to weigh down scrolls.

Yueqing grabbed the heavy stone and slammed it onto the ground right between their boots. THUD!

"SHUT UP!" Yueqing barked, her voice cutting through the cave.

Both men froze, staring at her in complete shock.

Yueqing picked up the green stone and held it up right in front of their faces.

"Look at this stone," Yueqing said, her voice sharp and serious. "This is the Speaking Stone. Whoever is holding this stone is the only one allowed to open their mouth. If you talk without holding it, I will walk right out into the blizzard."

Wenzhe opened his mouth. "Yueqing—"

Yueqing pointed the stone straight at his nose. "Are you holding the stone? No! Shut up!"

Wenzhe snapped his mouth shut, glaring at the stone, but he didn’t say another word.

Xiao Chen let out a small laugh.

Yueqing immediately whipped the stone around, pointing it at Xiao Chen’s face. "You too! No laughing, no talking! I am holding the stone, so I am the only one talking!"

She pulled the warm furs tight around her shoulders, keeping her grip solid on the heavy green stone.

"Now sit down, both of you," Yueqing said, leaning back against the wall. "And do not make a sound."
