Chapter 187: Chapter

["Fine, you tyrant, enjoy it while it lasts because I am going to make sure every single bandage hurts like hell,"] Yueqing thought, her jaw tight as she let out a loud, dramatic huff of surrender. ["Next time you want a nurse, you can bleed out on the floor for all I care."]

Grudgingly stepping forward, she snatched the small wooden tray containing the medicinal ointment and fresh linen strips, her face a mask of bitter resentment.

Wenzhe released her wrist, watching her closely as he slowly stood up to shed his heavy outer robes. With practiced, deliberate movements, he untied his inner garment and slipped it off completely, baring his broad chest and the wide expanse of his back to the dim candlelight.

Upon seeing his body, Su Yueqing froze dead in her tracks, the tray trembling slightly in her hands as utter shock silenced her complaints.

His skin was an absolute roadmap of violence, jagged white slash marks from swords, deep circular puckers from arrows, and thick scars crisscrossing his muscular frame.

The tray in Yueqing’s hands shook against the table as she truly looked at him.

The scars were terrifying. It was not just old battle wounds, it was a living record of the two brutal months he had spent locked away and tortured by the enemy. Every inch of his back was torn and ruined, showing the unspeakable agony he had survived.

["Good grief... how is he even alive after two months of torture?"] Yueqing thought, her chest tightening as an unexpected wave of sorrow hit her. ["This is too much. How can anyone survive that much pain without breaking?"]

Her eyes grew watery. All her anger and her plan to hurt him vanished. The sheer horror of what he went through took away all her spite.

Her fingers twitched. Instead of pressing hard into his wounds like she planned, Yueqing stepped closer. Her hand reached out, her fingers trembling as she gently stroked his scarred back, tracing a jagged mark near his shoulder.

"You really don’t care about your own life, do you?" Yueqing whispered, her voice cracking. The anger was completely gone, replaced by quiet shock. "How did you survive two months of that...?"

Wenzhe did not move. He sat still, feeling the warmth of her fingers on his damaged skin. But when he heard her true, sympathetic thoughts echoing in his mind ["how is he even alive after two months of torture"].... a dark, bitter anger rose inside him.

With a sudden movement, Wenzhe turned around. His strong hands grabbed her wrists, pulling her right between his knees before she could step back.

His dark eyes were bloodshot and blazing with pain and deep resentment.

"Why are you acting like you care about me?" Wenzhe demanded, his raspy voice shaking with fury as he stared up into her watery eyes. "Your fake tears... when you are the cause of everything that happened!"

Yueqing blinked, her confusion completely overshadowing her previous sympathy.

"What do you mean, how am I the cause? What are you saying?" Yueqing demanded, trying to shove her hands against his chest to push him away.

Even with his severe injuries, Wenzhe was still built like a wall and far stronger than her. He didn’t budge an inch. True anger blazed in his dark eyes, a raw, furious emotion Yueqing had never seen from him before.

"You... you think I am not aware of how you told the Third Prince of my plans?" Wenzhe growled, his voice trembling with a mixture of betrayal and agony. "Thanks to you, I was ambushed and taken away for two months."

With a harsh shove, Wenzhe pushed her away from him. Yueqing lost her balance, tumbling backward and landing hard on the cold floor.

Yueqing sat there in utter shock, her breath catching in her throat. She couldn’t utter a single word. She had completely forgotten or never truly connected that leaking information to the Third Prince was the exact reason Wenzhe had been ambushed, captured, and subjected to two months of brutal torture.

Her lips parted, a desperate urge to explain rising in her chest as she realized the horrifying weight of what she was being accused of. But before she could get a single syllable out, Wenzhe turned his face away, his jaw clenched tight.

"Get out," Wenzhe said coldly, his voice dead and final. "Leave."

Yueqing slowly pushed herself up from the cold floor, her hands trembling as she looked at Wenzhe’s rigid, turned-away back. The suffocating weight of his words pressed down on her chest, heavy and inescapable.

She swallowed hard, her mind racing. There was no escaping the truth or blaming anyone else, she was the one who had done it. She had leaked the movements to the Third Prince, driven by her own desperate motives and fear.

"I would never wish for anything bad to happen to you... I—I..." Yueqing started, her voice cracking as the guilt threatened to choke her.

She bit her lower lip hard, realizing how pathetic and hollow her excuse sounded out loud. To Wenzhe, nothing could justify trading her husband’s life to the enemy. No matter what she said, the blood of those two months of torture was still on her hands.

With a choked breath, Yueqing turned sharply on her heel and hurried out of the room, tears finally spilling over her lashes.

Outside the heavy doors, Lu Yue and Nine immediately noticed the dark, heavy shift in her mood. They exchanged a quick, worried look and hurried after her as she rushed away down the corridor.

Inside the quiet room, Dong Li stood near the doorway, letting out a long, exhausted sigh as he listened to her retreating footsteps, leaving Wenzhe alone in the dark.

"Young master should I call in the physician to treat your wound?"

"Leave it.. call for Li Mei instead." Wenzhe instructed as Dong Li eyes widened slightly.

"Yes young master." He nodded and turned to leave and do as instructed but he knew whatever his young master was trying to do now definitely wasn’t going to end well.
