Soon, they arrived at the warehouse district.
All memories of how he walked about aimlessly in this place after being banished played in Luke’s mind as he looked around from his seat in the car.
A month ago, he was the heir to the city. Then, everything flipped like a disc, and he was nothing more than a beggar on the streets. His own kinship didn’t accept him because he summoned beast armor, and it was the same beast armor that pulled him out of his misery.
What did Luke do? He forged more beast armor, and he sold them, making one bill after the other until he could fend for himself and survive.
And yet, they wanted to take that away from him too. Adrian burned down the shop he was managing and promised to keep destroying everything Luke tried to build. It was as if they didn’t want him gone but wanted him to suffer and see themselves prosper.
Now, Luke challenged them to try and destroy this one. A mega workshop. A factory. An industry of beast armor.
This time, he had formed allies with a powerful family, the Blackstones. It would be difficult for anyone, even his father, the Duke, to crumble an establishment of this standing.
The ride stopped at a parking area in the district because there were many demolished structures, and some routes weren’t navigable.
"Oh my..." Luke whispered as he stepped out of the ride and stared at the site.
Anyone could tell this would be massive just from one look at it!
Cranes here and there, cement mixers, steel rebar, and a thirty-foot excavation pit.
The site had mesh, roads ridden with gravel, seven four-story brick warehouses, red primer beams, two ten-story concrete towers, three steel sky-bridge skeletons, and a twelve-story building frame.
There were yellow bulldozers, piles of gravel, triple-axle dump trucks, generator cables, twenty plastic portable toilets, pallets of drywall, and blue tarps.
It was so big you wouldn’t know where the start or the end were if you didn’t ask the men at work.
"Miss Moon, I have to admit this was very fast. They are doing a fantastic job!" Luke commended, placing his hands on his hips as he admired the stupendous scene. Nobody would even know that he was the owner. They would think he was just a bystander who liked what he saw.
"Yes. Men are very fast when their wallets are full, the blueprints are clear, and the prize is a spot in the history books," Lin Moon replied. "To say your company built the largest, most advanced facility of its kind is a bragging right. That’s why they are fast and eager."
Luke nodded with a smirk. That explained it. Who wouldn’t put in double the effort when the paycheck is an ocean and the outcome is a monument for their resume?
As the saying goes, a house built with willing hands stands forever. Luke didn’t expect less from his mega facility.
The Construction Manager approached and greeted Luke and Lin Moon, then offered to give them a tour through the now-demolished interconnected blocks that made up the 100-acre site.
While on the tour, Luke noticed items and structures that showed this was indeed a shop, but a hundred times bigger.
A shipping truck had conveyor rollers and hydraulic lifts.
There was a lot of glass present, which implied the facility would have that upscale-glass look. There were also jumbo-size ventilation ducts, and many garage sheets.
With all these resources, he understood why they could be running low on capital.
But there was something about the construction he didn’t understand.
Luke didn’t have a problem with it; he only wanted to understand just to make sure it wasn’t a mistake.
"Construction Manager. Please, why are there some warehouse buildings still standing, and why were some demolished?" he asked.
"That is an excellent question, sir. I am glad you brought it up, because it shows you are really looking at the efficiency of this," the Construction Manager replied. "Those buildings were left because their positions fit the blueprint and they can still be useful. We can connect them to the new structures or build around them instead of wasting them. The others were demolished because they didn’t fit the layout."
"So you’re saving anything that can still serve a purpose. That should cut down on both the waste and the work," Luke said, nodding in approval.
Meanwhile, Lin Moon stayed quiet. It was his property after all. He was supposed to ask these sorts of questions.
"Yes, sir," the Construction Manager uttered after Luke reasoned. He pointed somewhere for reference. "In fact, we kept that one because it fits the office section perfectly. We can show it to you now."
Luke agreed and followed the Construction Manager to that section of the site.
While passing, he got a closer look at the workers responsible for this masterpiece.
Some were working alone, while most had summons with them that assisted their work.
A golem summon was lifting steel beams into place, and an imp summon was welding iron plates together with fire. Luke hoped that he wouldn’t be paying salary for two.
When they got to that section, Lin Moon left him to check other offices while Luke checked his own office.
It was empty and full of rubble and dust, but it looked promising.
It was as wide as a full apartment and as tall as a church. This office would be 5x bigger than the Chamberlain’s, and maybe even bigger than Mr. Blackstone’s!
A 70 x 30 inch glass panel resting by the wall implied that would be his window, an iron frame on the floor implied where a security door would hang, and a pedestal in the center implied the spot for his desk. Luke couldn’t wait to see the results.
He dragged a stool and sat where his spinning chair would be when the office was completed. Then, he practiced spinning in that chair when an esteemed client visits him.
He also practiced being a cruel businessman, a pragmatic businessman, a funny businessman, all archetypes he could think of.
"You want 50% off because it’s the Duke’s birthday today? Get out of my office!"
"Your yak is too fat for our standard chestplate? Put it on a diet or pay double!"
"What do you mean my services are too steep? Cry me a river and sign the contract!"
Suddenly, Luke felt his soul jump.
It felt like the sound of something living, and something connected to him had just been born.
There could be no other explanation. A mythic beast had been revived.
His heart began to race, and his hands started to shake. All of a sudden, Luke was anxious about meeting his next Mythic-grade beast.
His anxiety was reasonable.
What if this one wasn’t like Amigo? What if they were ruthless and rebellious like Scarlett’s phoenix?
Luke had no option but to find out.
Could it be the Dragonlord or the Empyreal Angel?
