After thinking, Seraphina had a plan.
Since there are many monsters, she could influence the minds of the stronger ones and make them attack the weaker ones, and Luke could finish the rest.
She raised her hands as her eyes lit up, and the spiritual force around her diffused to the Crystal Crabs until it entered their minds and took control of them, causing their bodies to twitch before they began moving according to Seraphina’s thoughts, birthing aggro to the smaller crabs.
The smaller Crystal Crabs didn’t even understand what was happening before their own kind began attacking them.
Claws struck shells, bodies were crushed, and the group of fourteen became six.
Luke found it interesting that Seraphina could slay monsters nevertheless, but she did it indirectly.
Amigo: not at all. Seraphina: indirectly.
The six remaining monsters were his, so Luke summoned the Lightning Dragon Wing Guards and flew to the valley where he confronted them with his spear. One crab tried to get his chest with its claw while another tried to behead him, but their efforts failed, and they perished soon after.
〖Beware! You have found a Blue Monster Zone: Crooked Hills!〗
"This must be the eye of the zone," Luke points out.
Checking his index again, he looked for the composition, population estimate, and report of the Crooked Hills.
The index said the monster zone is composed of monsters like Crystal Crabs, Cliff Spiders, Granite Bears, Avalanche Armadillos, etc. The population also ranged from 70-150.
As for the report.
「A Blue Monster Zone with rocky/mine/cave theme with three phases. Your chances of survival are very high. The Boss monster is a Gneiss Raptor」
Luke checked the phase he was in. It was called Valley Phase, although he expected a more whimsical name.
The second phase was the Cave and Mine Phase, while the last was the Hill Phase.
The names were about as threatening as the monsters themselves. Luke couldn’t wait to wipe it off the map.
Seraphina opened her wings and flew up to where Luke stood, and the moment she landed, she looked at him with an expectant expression as if she was waiting for him to tell her that she had done well. Luke couldn’t read her mind, but he didn’t need to because it was written all over her face. He wanted to be harder on her like he was with Amigo, but it was difficult when she looked at him like that, so he decided to stay somewhere in the middle.
"Yes, yes, you did fine," Luke said. "Using the stronger monsters to kill the weaker ones was a good move, but what if another monster ambushed you while you were controlling them? What would stop it from attacking you?"
Seraphina’s face changed as she thought about that, likely imagining the scenario. Then she replied, "But these are weaker monsters, right? I can control up to a hundred of them at the same time."
"Yes, you are right. But we won’t be fighting monsters on this level soon. I am sure there are monsters that could escape your grip..."
Seraphina shuddered at the idea of a mere monster refusing the will of a Mythic being like her.
She began thinking about what she would do if that happened, and the first answer that came to her was to just control something else, but Luke’s question had already made her realize that her standing as an auxiliary summon was not enough to kill every threat.
What if the monster was too strong to control? What if it had no mind? What if she was attacked while controlling the others?
More questions came up. Seraphina didn’t even know she was thinking for herself as Luke wanted!
Meanwhile, Luke picked up one monster core and gave it to Seraphina.
She absorbed the core, and the energy in the core travelled through her body, bringing her a pleasant feeling. This feeling made her want more, so she absorbed the rest in no time.
Just like Amigo, six monster cores wouldn’t do anything significant to a Mythic summon. Maybe clearing this zone would.
"Let’s keep going," Luke said. "There are still plenty of monsters here."
In the Valley Phase, there were more Crystal Crabs, followed by other monsters like Granite Bears and Cliff Spiders, but Luke had to finish off all the Crystal Crabs first. After he did, Seraphina saw a Cliff Spider inching into cracks in the valley.
She didn’t want it to get away, so she transformed into the spider and followed it. She returned two minutes later and changed back to herself.
"I found them in a narrow passage ahead, but the left slope is ready to collapse. We need to stay right and use our wings," she said.
Luke, who waited patiently, replied, "Good. Lead me there."
Eventually, they confronted the Cliff Spiders’ hideout using the route Seraphina discovered.
The spiders scampered out of their rocks to attack, but Luke slowed them with gravity and threw his spear at them.
It took him three throws to kill all the spiders, but he had enough time since they were too weak to oppose his gravity.
Luke didn’t want to use a skill from his armors to fight these monsters because he could make this hill tremble and the caves in it cave in if he did so.
The slopes of the valley had loose rocks already too, so any excitement could cause a landslide.
While Seraphina absorbed the cores of the Crystal Spiders, Luke observed that there was another problem.
The crystals around refracted light in confusing directions. Now, monsters can appear closer or farther away than they actually are.
Luke had strong defenses, so this made him hypervigilant because the defenses made him notice even the smallest distortion in the crystals that he should have ignored. This made him paranoid, so Seraphina asked to help.
She imbued him with perception that was close to hers, but it was temporary.
Using Seraphina’s blessing, Luke was no longer paranoid. He spotted these monsters trying to take advantage of the crystals. A Granite Bear prowling, and a Crystal-horn Goat ready to ram him.
GROAR!
Seraphina flew away from Luke’s way as the Granite Bear pounced on him.
The Crystal-horn Goat ran for his back, but the gravity shield around Luke disintegrated its horn.
Luke drove his spear through the stone body of the Granite Bear and clapped the No-horn Goat’s head to paste.
More of their kind followed, but their move sets had been mastered, so they were no match.
