"Great," Luke muttered, holding up his token. "Class B."
Vivian leaned on him to cross-check. It said: Luke Kingsley | Class B | Seat 14. This meant they wouldn’t be together in the same class.
After sharing every classroom since childhood, they were at last branched out by circumstance. Vivian’s plan to shield Luke from enemies had just fallen apart, even though Luke wasn’t relying on it in the first place.
"Hey! You there!" she called out to a student who was passing by. "What class did you get? Swap with me right now."
"Whoa, hold on, Vivian," Luke intervened. "Stop trying to rob people."
"Why not? I’ll just force one of them to trade. They won’t say no to me."
Luke flicked her forehead, and it sounded like it was empty.
"These tokens are biometric, meaning they cannot be traded," he explained. "Even if they could, they wouldn’t work. Don’t worry, maybe Raven got Class A too."
Vivian agreed to settle for the hope of Raven’s company. The two scanned the auditorium in search of their third sibling, but so many students were spilling out into the corridors, fiddling with their tokens, making it hard to spot anyone.
Joining the flow, Luke and Vivian saw Scarlett sitting alone, waiting for the trample to end. When they approached and asked for her placement, Scarlett revealed she was also assigned to Class B.
"No! I’m a goner!" Vivian cried out dramatically.
"Don’t be sad," Scarlett said. "I saw Raven heading toward Class A. She must be assigned there."
"Really? That’s great! She is so dead when I get her. Hey, Lady Scarlett. Please, do me a favor and take good care of Luke, okay?"
Vivian pecked both of them before bouncing off to Class A. "I love you, bye!"
Luke and Scarlett began walking side by side, pretending the temperature hadn’t just soared. Without Vivian’s energy to distract them, awkwardness suffocated them, making it difficult to walk straight without a nervous hand touching an arm or neck.
The memory of sex hit them equally.
Acting like normal classmates was going to be impossible.
At least, it was for Scarlett. For Luke, a year under Principal Claris had taught him how to keep his composure. But Scarlett had given away her innocence that night. Walking down the hallway, she was still trying to process the reality that Luke was the one who had taken it.
"Hey, Scar," Luke said. "If you stare at the floor any harder, you’re going to trip over your own shoes. Let’s walk faster."
"Shut up, husband," Scarlett muttered. "I was just... thinking about the curriculum."
"Right, the curriculum," Luke repeated, pointing down the corridor. "There’s our class."
SWOOOSH!
The doors opened, and Luke stepped in with Scarlett beside him.
Class B froze. Whatever discussion anyone was having took a backseat to their entrance.
Class B was already packed with nobles. There was the heir to the Shonen family, the Greenwoods, and the Razaels. But all their status combined still didn’t match Scarlett’s, nor Luke’s, had he still been the heir to the Kingsleys.
As a result, their presence had thrown the scales out of balance. Now, Class B would be the most valuable and most watched class in the entire exchange!
"Luke, my seat number is three," Scarlett said, pointing at the front row.
"Mine is fourteen," Luke replied. The middle row.
The two split apart, followed by whispers and stares. Scarlett took her seat between a boy and a girl, while Luke found himself between two girls from the rival school.
These were two of the three girls he had encountered at the eatery, Bachelor’s Grill. Luck or misfortune? Luke wasn’t sure. When he sat in the middle, they leaned on him like they were his concubines.
"Hey, Luke, do you remember us?" the one named Thea asked, holding his arm while the other girl kissed his jawline.
"Why did you go to the Public Holdings Authority building that day, hmm? Tell us your secrets."
Luke sighed. While he didn’t mind facing dangerous problems, he hated dealing with unnecessary ones. If these girls were his seatmates, then it was going to be a very long joint term.
"Tell us about your beast, oh Duke," Thea purred.
"Huh? Beast?" Luke muttered, his heart skipping a beat.
"We heard you don’t have one, but a guy who carries himself like this... must be hiding a biiiiig monster... down there. Want to show us after class?"
???
Scarlett angrily looked behind her. A dragon would burn the world just to keep a thief’s hands off its treasure! Right now, two random girls were caressing Luke, whispering to him in a manner that boiled her blood with the heat of her phoenix.
Even if they were no longer engaged, Luke was hers. This was an insult Scarlett couldn’t tolerate. But Scarlett didn’t know the Rubverton girls were intentionally doing this to get a reaction out of her.
Another student entered the classroom before anything could happen.
Lucretia Blackstone, female heir to the Blackstones.
As light was to shadow, and as fire was to ice, Lucy Blackstone was to Rubverton High what Scarlett Trump was to Montclair.
"No way, these arrangements are rigged!"
"Oh no! They put two queens in one classroom!"
"Then who the hell is going to be the king?"
Lucy Blackstone surveyed the classroom. She was as beautiful as an oil painting with midnight hair, pale skin, and violet eyes. She also had a body that made her look like a young mother.
Her gaze landed on Luke, a boy being fawned over by two girls. Lucy remembered him sitting inside her father’s office last night, discussing important business.
To be fair, she hadn’t expected anyone her age to be in her father’s office, which was why she had fled. But she had a confession to make.
She had a big crush on Luke Kingsley since childhood.
Loki, her father, had offered a marriage alliance between them to mend the rift between their families. But Cedric Kingsley had rejected it with a spite that bordered on madness. Since then, Luke had become an unattainable prize in Lucy’s eyes, the only boy high enough in status to command her want.
Meanwhile, Luke hadn’t even known she existed until last night!
While the entire class watched, Lucy blushed when their gaze met, flashed him a smile, and took her seat near the wall.
"No way. I must be hallucinating. Lucy Blackstone doesn’t smile at anyone!"
"Is Luke Kingsley a hidden boss? First, their queen is staring at him, and now our queen is blushing at him? Who even is this guy?!"
Even Luke himself was confused, wondering why the tycoon’s daughter had just smiled at him so sweetly.
"What is she playing at?" he thought. "I only had a deal with her father."
In the front row, Scarlett had to constantly twist around in her seat just to keep track of what was happening behind her back.
"Hey," the boy sitting next to her whispered. "Are... are you okay, Lady Scarlett? You look like you’re about to murder someone."
