Chapter 1239: Chapter 679: Growth
A squad of soldiers arrived upon Reynard’s call, but before they could take over the looters, Dismas suddenly pointed at the empty wooden stake and spoke to the looters.
"Among you, someone needs to step up, I choose the worst one among you, now tell me who has committed the most wrongdoings."
This situation immediately made the looters look panicked, and their intense anxiety had already robbed them of their sanity.
Weren’t they supposed to go to jail? Why this?
Driven by the instinct to survive, they mercilessly betrayed their comrades.
"Him!" One looter abruptly raised a hand pointing at someone else, "He’s done the most wrongdoings."
The others quickly caught on and all pointed at that person.
"That’s right! It’s him."
"Everything was forced on us by the boss and him."
"Yeah, we did nothing; it’s all him."
As the saying goes, save oneself before others, better he dies than we all die.
The looter they pointed out was initially flustered, subconsciously refuting continuously.
"It’s not me...it’s not me..."
Being accused by so many, fear instantly seized his will; he didn’t want to be hung up there...
"Shut the hell up, all of you." Dismas shouted to suppress them, then looked at the singled-out person, indicating, "Now, I give you a chance. Who committed the most deeds?"
"He killed, he raped, he..."
That person, like grabbing a lifeline, directly spilled all the dirt others had done.
The others, unwilling to accept, started to hurl accusations wildly, the scene turned chaotic.
Now, Reynard and the others realized that humans differ; they struggle for survival, even killing is just about a musket or a sword, never intending to torture others, let alone killing for fun.
But what these guys have committed even makes them feel chilled, one can imagine how evil they are.
"They must be punished!"
Junia couldn’t bear it, her teeth clenched, her face looked somewhat ghastly, really wanting to swing the torch to kill these guys.
Even Laura, who considers herself cold-hearted, felt disgusted; she was an Earl’s Eagle Flock assassin.
Swiftly judgments were made, one was singled out for having been involved in almost everything.
"It’s you."
Dismas waved, the soldiers directly seized the man, regardless of his howling, they bound him onto the stake and hung him up.
Meanwhile, the one responsible for recording quickly wrote down the charges, even more than a single paper could hold.
Pinned the list aside, the decree stated Hamlet’s enforcement, anyone daring to set him down was going against Hamlet, ready for their door to be knocked.
Despite the looter’s resistance, against absolute power he was hung up, while the others breathed a sigh of relief, even couldn’t help but laugh.
Damn, dodged a bullet...
But under the soldiers’ chase, they didn’t have much time to think, step by step, they headed towards the small town.
Left behind was the man fiercely struggling on the stake, like a wriggling maggot, yet Hamlet’s hanging skill was well-practiced, leaving no point to leverage, the more struggle the tighter it became.
He wanted to call for help but his mouth was gagged, could only let out muffled howls.
Nonetheless, this spectacle kept attracting more people, including the scavengers following behind.
People are curious creatures; once some gather around, it attracts more.
Since this is the outskirts of the ruins filled with Hamlet’s Army, while cautious, there wasn’t the previous extreme resistance.
Approaching adventurers seeing this scene were curious why people were hung up, gathered around to watch, including Scorpion among them.
"Leader, what’s written on the top?"
Scorpion briefly recapped, instantly resonating with the rest of the team.
"Damn well deserved!"
Even those harboring negative sentiments towards Hamlet due to previous capture couldn’t help but agree.
Others might not be able to read, but listened to Scorpion’s explanation, quickly spreading around.
"Well deserved!"
"Hahaha! Got caught."
"Hamlet did a good job!"
Yet amidst these one-sided talks, some questioned.
"Who knows if this is true, what if those Hamlet guys are the actual looters? They might have stolen..."
"Damn it!" The youth’s anger still simmered, hearing someone defending scumbags, immediately stepped forward, "That guy hung up there and a group had just attacked us, luckily Lord Hamlet saved us."
"You say it is, you think you’re someone? You’re just a dog."
Undoubtedly, these words provoked the young man, his pent-up emotions instantly struggled uncontrollably.
The will was being tested...rage!
He pulled out the musket from his waist, understood now to cock it back, without hesitation moved close firing.
"Bang!"
A sudden, loud gunshot plunged those around into panic.
The crowd parted a bit to see the sneering person on the ground, chest bloodied, foaming at the mouth.
This scene shocked people; how did it suddenly turn violent?
