Overlord: The Multiverse

Chapter 446: Kagaya Ubuyashiki

After teleporting back, I headed toward the Ubuyashiki estate. The serene air around the mansion hadn’t changed, but this time, there was no tension, no weight of looming death. The trees gently swayed, and I could hear the soft murmur of water from the koi pond as I walked up the path.

In the courtyard, Kagaya Ubuyashiki sat peacefully with his wife, Amane. The two were sharing tea, enjoying the calm like any ordinary couple. It was almost surreal, seeing him like this—whole, healthy. A man once marked by a cursed lineage, now standing tall without the black scars that once marred his body.

He noticed me before I could announce myself and stood up with a welcoming smile.

"Alex," he said warmly, stepping toward me. "It’s good to see you back. Mitsuri told me you had returned."

"Yeah," I said, stepping into the courtyard. "It’s been a while."

Amane gave a respectful bow as I approached. I returned it with a nod.

"You’re looking good," I added, glancing at Kagaya. "I almost didn’t recognize you without the coughing and dramatic pauses."

He laughed softly. "I admit, good health is something I’ve had to get used to. But I owe that to you."

"You earned it. You’ve carried this world on your back long enough."

We took a seat at the low table in the garden. The servant brought me a cup of tea, and I took a sip. The warmth was pleasant, but my thoughts were already steering the conversation forward.

"I heard from Yuki that the demon attacks have slowed down a lot," I began.

Kagaya nodded. "Yes. It’s remarkable. With most of the Upper Moons gone and no new demons appearing, the Corps is finally able to rest, even if just a little."

"And Muzanette?"

"Still silent. No signs of movement."

I leaned back slightly, relaxing into the wooden seat. "Good. That gives us some time."

"Time for what?" he asked curiously.

I smiled.

"To visit my home. I’d like to invite you to Nazarick."

There was a pause. Even Amane looked at me with surprise.

"Nazarick?" Kagaya repeated, clearly unfamiliar with the name.

"My home, in another world," I explained. "A realm of unmatched magic, artifacts beyond imagination, and people who don’t quite follow the rules of this world."

Kagaya raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "That sounds... like something from a dream."

"It’s real," I said, chuckling. "And you’re welcome to see it for yourself. I thought, since things are quiet here, it would be a good time for you and the other Hashira to come and take a look. Sightseeing, really. Nothing dangerous."

He folded his hands on his lap, thoughtful. "And you would guide us?"

"Of course. I’ll tell Shinobu and Mitsuri myself. I’d like you to gather the others here. That way, I can teleport everyone at once."

"That’s a bold offer," Amane said gently.

"I wouldn’t make it if I didn’t think it was worth your time," I replied. "You’ll get a perspective that might help you understand who I am, and why I do what I do. Plus, I think you all deserve a break. Even if just for a little while."

Kagaya considered it for a few moments more. Then, he nodded.

"Very well. I will call the other Hashira here. Give me until tomorrow afternoon. They should all be able to arrive by then."

"Sounds good." I stood up and finished the last of my tea. "I’ll go let Shinobu and Mitsuri know. I’m sure they’ll be excited."

"Thank you for this opportunity," Kagaya said as he walked me toward the garden’s edge. "I’ve always believed there are forces beyond what we can see. You, Alex, are a living example of that."

"Let’s hope it stays that way," I said with a grin. "Because once you see Nazarick, you’ll realize just how small this world really is."

He smiled again, serene and composed. "I look forward to it."
