"Who hired you?"

Evren asked, pressing the poison dagger slightly tighter against the lead assassin’s neck. A thin bead of crimson blood welled up under the blade.

The lead assassin shivered uncontrollably under Evren’s boot, looking pale with terror. He had taken dozens of stealth assassination contracts across Veridia Metropolis over the past five years, but he had never encountered an F-Rank delivery rider with physical stats like an S-Rank monster.

"P-Prescott!" the lead assassin stammered frantically, raising his gloved hands in total surrender. "Young Master Prescott paid the Shadow-Blade Mercenary Guild five million dollars cash! He wanted us to kill you tonight and forge the crime scene to look like an accidental Rift monster breach!"

Evren’s eyes narrowed slightly, a cold, indifferent smile touching his lips. "Five million dollars, huh? He certainly spent a lot of money just to handle a delivery rider."

He leaned down, looking straight into the assassin’s eyes. "Tell your Guild Leader that if Shadow-Blade stays out of my way, I’ll pay them double. But if another mercenary steps foot in my penthouse, I will buy out your entire guild and erase you off the map."

"I-I’ll tell him! I swear on my life!" the lead assassin sobbed. "We won’t come back!"

Before the lead assassin could say another word, Evren brought the back of his hand down in a swift strike, knocking him unconscious.

Evren pulled out his phone and dialed the Apex Tower security desk. Eight minutes later, the General Manager arrived with six armed head guards and two police investigators.

When the police investigators saw the Shadow-Blade Mercenary Guild emblems and verified the lead assassin’s phone logs connecting directly back to Prescott’s corporate account, their expressions darkened.

They filed an official criminal investigation against Prescott Guild for illegal high-tier mercenary solicitation.

The next morning, bright sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the Penthouse exercise room.

A specialized medical delivery team from Veridia Medical arrived early, assembling a set of state-of-the-art physical therapy parallel bars, an automated leg-nerve stimulation machine, and several bottles of organic thermal massage oils.

Amber sat in her anti-gravity wheelchair, watching the heavy steel equipment being calibrated by the medical technicians.

She looked at Evren, her heart full of gratitude but also feeling a bit shy and anxious.

"Evren... is all this really necessary?" Amber asked softly, rubbing her fingers together nervously. "These high-tech therapy units cost tens of thousands of dollars... you’ve already spent so much money on me."

"Nothing is too expensive for your recovery," Evren smiled warmly, walking over to her side. "The Stage One Nerve Pill healed your mana core and restored basic sensation. Now we just need to rebuild your leg muscle memory so you can stand."

He gently lifted Amber out of her wheelchair and brought her over to the parallel bars.

Amber held onto the polished steel bars tightly, her arms trembling as she tried to support her body weight. Her paralyzed lower body remained largely unresponsive, and her knees buckled instantly without strength.

"I... I can’t keep my balance," Amber whispered, her head drooping with frustration. "I can barely feel my legs..."

"I’ve got you," Evren said smoothly.

He stepped up right behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist to support her weight. He held her firmly against his chest, keeping her posture upright and balanced.

Amber froze for a second.

A blush flushed across her cheeks as she felt the solid warmth of Evren’s chest pressed against her back. Her heart hammered against her ribs, her breath catching in her throat as a wave of heat rushed to her face.

"Don’t rush," Evren murmured gently near her ear. "Focus on taking one step at a time. I won’t let you fall."

Feeling his steady support, Amber took a deep breath. She concentrated all her willpower into her right foot.

Slowly, her right heel lifted off the ground, moving forward three inches before planting firmly on the padded mat.

"I did it..." Amber gasped with shock. "Evren, I moved my foot!"

"See?" Evren smiled warmly against her hair. "You’re doing great. Again."

After thirty minutes of walking exercises, Evren carried Amber over to the soft leather therapy couch. He unrolled her silk trousers up to her knees, exposing her slender calves.

He poured a small amount of warm thermal massage oil onto his palms, rubbed his hands together, and began gently massaging her leg muscles, stimulating the dormant blood vessels and nerve endings.

Amber bit her lower lip, a soft gasp escaping her mouth. The warm oil soothed the stiffness in her muscles, and a pleasant, tingling sensation spread down her legs.

She looked down at Evren as he attentively massaged her calves with genuine care and dedication. A deep wave of warmth swelled inside her chest.

Six months ago, her birth family had disowned her and locked her in a cold annex room. Now, the man standing before her was pouring his heart into her recovery every single day.

Amber reached down, softly placing her small hand over Evren’s hand.

"Evren..." she whispered softly.

Evren paused, looking up. "Yes?"

"Thank you. For everything you’ve done for me."

Evren chuckled softly. "You know, Amber, if I got a dollar for every time you said ’thank you’, I’d probably be a millionaire by now."

Amber blushed, a soft, beautiful giggle escaping her lips. "I can’t help it... you just keep giving me reasons to say it."

At that exact moment, a translucent golden system screen flared brightly before Evren’s eyes:

[DING! Daily Physical Therapy Completed!]

[Care Expenditure: $50,000.00 (Physical Therapy Suite & Thermal Elixirs)]

[100x System Rebate Triggered!]

[Cash Reward Deposited: +$5,000,000.00!]

Before Evren could close the notification, the system screen pulsed with an intense crimson glow, accompanied by a sharp priority chime:

[HIGH-PRIORITY SYSTEM QUEST ACTIVATED!]

[Quest Target: Stage 2 Nerve Regeneration Pill Synthesis]

[Required Core Ingredient: Glacial Lotus Essence]

[Location Radar: B-Rank Frost Rift — Sector 4 (Opening in 48 Hours)!]

[Quest Reward: Complete Spinal Regeneration + 1,000x System Rebate Multiplier!]

Evren’s eyes sharpened as he read the system prompt. The Stage One pill had restored her mana core and nerve sensitivity, but the Stage Two pill was the ultimate key to fully curing her spinal paralysis so she could walk on her own again.

He looked at Amber with curiosity in his eyes. "Amber, as a former S-Rank Captain... how do Rifts actually work in the metropolis? Can anyone just walk into one?"

"Not officially," Amber replied. "Rifts are dimensional breaches rated from F-Rank up to SSS-Rank. They spawn high-density mana crystals and rare alchemical herbs that don’t exist anywhere else on Earth. But to enter an official Rift zone, the Metropolis Guild Bureau requires you to either hold an official Guild License or belong to a registered raid team. Unregistered Awakeners are blocked by military checkpoints at the perimeter."

"So without a registered guild or a license, nobody gets past the military checkpoints," Evren remarked thoughtfully. "I see."

Amber looked at him with a concerned expression. "Why are you asking, Evren? Are you... planning to enter a Rift?"

"Just curious about how your world worked."

Amber reached out, touching his wrist gently. "Evren, please promise me you won’t try anything dangerous. You’re an F-Rank Awakener. Rifts aren’t like delivery routes; even F-Rank Rifts have deadly beasts that slaughter experienced raiders. It’s far too dangerous."

"Don’t worry," Evren said softly, patting her hand.

He wiped the excess thermal oil from his hands with a warm towel before washing up at the sink.

Then he helped Amber sit up comfortably against the sofa cushions. "How about we take a break? Do you want to watch something?"

"Sure," Amber smiled softly. "I haven’t watched the news in ages."

Evren picked up the remote, sat down beside her on the soft sofa, and turned on the large penthouse wall screen. He was still scrolling through channels trying to find something to watch when a news channel caught his attention.

"Breaking News: Prescott Guild has officially declared sole clearing rights over the B-Rank Frost Rift opening at Sector 4 in forty-eight hours! Young Master Prescott announced his guild will deploy fifty S-Rank and A-Rank raiders to block all independent Awakeners from entering!"

Evren stared at the screen. "Seriously?"
