Pioneer Lord: I Have Conquering System
Chapter 257 - 211: Purgatory Three-headed DogLevi’s expression darkened when he heard this.
’Damn it,’ he thought. ’I’m the Lord of High Cliff Castle, and even I don’t get this kind of treatment. This guy’s a petty official, yet he’s found all sorts of ways to play the part.’
But this was all par for the course.
When this old codger attacked the iron mine, he even brought along two Maids for show. Who knows where he learned that from.
He’d been well-behaved in High Cliff Castle for so long, but today he finally showed his true colors. A classic case of an old body with a young, restless heart.
CRASH! Levi kicked the door open and strode out, dangling a disheveled little old man who was struggling frantically with a look of terror on his face.
"These young ladies’ grips are a little weak. Get your Lord a few with some real strength in their hands. Let’s allow our respected and noble Grand Shaman Sam, leader of the High Cliff Castle Casting Team, to really enjoy himself."
"I’ll do it, Boss!" Zat immediately raised his hand with great enthusiasm.
After getting the Lord’s approval, he led a few Beastman Barbarians, who were rubbing their hands in glee, and trotted inside.
"Old Sa, don’t blame me. This is all the boss’s orders."
Zat spoke with a wide grin as he hung Sam from a crooked tree.
"Can... can you go easy on me?" Sam asked, shrinking back and trembling.
"Heh, with our friendship? Say no more."
Zat slapped his chest, making a loud THUMPING sound. But the more solemnly he vowed, the less confident Sam felt.
Shamans, unlike human Mages, are not physically frail. Their training system includes physical enhancement, obvious examples being Orak and that heroic but unnamed Minotaur Chief.
Though Sam looked like a scrawny little old man, his physique was a couple of notches stronger than a young man’s. He took dozens of consecutive lashes from Zat and a few Barbarians and was still screaming with considerable vigor.
The bloodcurdling screams even attracted the other Elves from the Wind Speech Tribe, who came over to see what was happening.
Unfortunately, they were blocked by a circle of muscular Barbarians, Beastmen, and Centaurs. All they could see was a solid wall of pectoral muscles.
One shouldn’t air their dirty laundry in public.
Sam was, after all, a member of High Cliff Castle. If he was disgraced, all of High Cliff Castle would lose face. It was best to handle this internally.
"Heather, come heal him."
Sprawled authoritatively in a chair, Levi saw that the timing was right and snapped his fingers.
Almost all of these Zor Elves knew the Low Tier Healing Technique. After all, this Magic was a jack-of-all-trades—excellent whether used on oneself or on others.
Therefore, any Caster with energy to spare would learn a little of it.
While it couldn’t compare to the Holy Light Redemption of the Holy Light Church, it was much faster at treating minor aches and pains than any medicinal salve.
A ray of green light descended upon Sam’s head, and the listless little Shaman, who had been tormented to the point of exhaustion, instantly regained some of his vitality.
"I know you’ve never been sincere about joining High Cliff Castle, and that you’re resentful that I don’t treat you like some noble Caster."
Levi sneered at Sam. All around them were the onlooking High Cliff Castle Warriors, Beastmen, Feder Warriors, and Centaurs. He had the air of a Pope delivering a sermon.
"It’s just that you think because you’re a Shaman who knows two types of Magic, you should be respected wherever you go. Am I wrong?"
Sam remained silent, because that was indeed what he thought.
In the Wilderness, over ninety-nine percent of the crude warriors were ignorant of magic. A Shaman who knew Magic was as rare as gold, to say nothing of one who possessed two types of Magic that were extremely practical for an army.
He was extremely proud of his status as a Caster, but in High Cliff Castle, this status was completely ignored. His position was even lower than that of that lowly Kobold.
"Casters are indeed noble, but you are definitely not one of them. If I had eight Magic Apprentices, then those eight Apprentices would all become corps commanders. You, on the other hand, would remain a mere team leader. Why? Because I know that those eight Apprentices will eventually grow into senior Mages."
"And you? You’re arrogant and conceited just because you know two types of Magic. You’re complacent, you spend all day complaining and blaming others, thinking people fail to recognize your talent, without ever reflecting on whether you have the ability to hold this position."
Although Levi wasn’t spewing profanities, every word was a dagger to the heart, causing Sam’s head to hang low with a look of utter dejection.
Levi understood the principle that going too far was as bad as not going far enough. He waved his hand, and Zat took Sam down from the tree, untied his ropes, and got him a small stool to sit on.
"In the future, High Cliff Castle’s Casting Corps will inevitably become more professional and more advanced. Those who stagnate will simply be washed away by the torrent of time." Levi pointed to Heather, who was massaging his shoulders behind him. "Tell me, how does the Magic you pride yourself on compare to these Zor Priests who just joined?"
"A single Middle Tier Shaping Magic from one of them can break city walls and shatter formations. Meanwhile, your Healing Technique and Stone Skin Technique can barely keep up with High Cliff Castle’s needs anymore. Their obsolescence is just a matter of time."
Heather smiled faintly. She hadn’t expected her standing in this human’s heart to be so high.
Levi wasn’t just spouting nonsense. High Cliff Castle would only grow stronger, the Burning Corps would become more powerful, and the Casting Corps would become more and more advanced.
When that time comes, Sam, who only knows the Healing Technique and Stone Skin Technique, would most likely be tossed into logistics to serve as a minor medic, while the Zor Priests, proficient in Molding Magic, would display their glory on the front lines.
His vision and ambition were far too great to be limited to being a petty Lord of the Wilderness on this small patch of land.
