Pioneer Lord: I Have Conquering System
Chapter 266 - 213: After the Dust Has SettledLevi sized up Hog, feeling an inexplicable wave of emotion.
Hog was someone he had raised from a young age, which gave their bond a special meaning—it was like raising a husky.
Glancing around, he saw Muto and the other Warriors from High Cliff Castle looking on with excitement at the man they considered their greatest hero.
But there was one person Levi didn’t see. He turned to Baisitina and asked, "Where’s Sophia?"
When Levi found the Silver Dragon Maiden, she was completely absorbed in weaving a piece of clothing. Her cheeks were puffed out, clearly locked in a struggle with the garment in her hands.
And the garment was a ghastly sight.
"How did you persuade her to work?"
Leaving the room, Levi couldn’t help but give Baisitina a thumbs-up.
After he’d first lured the Silver Dragon back to High Cliff Castle, all she did was eat and sleep. She was a complete freeloader, eating so much that she practically drove up the price of rice.
"I simply told her that she would be paid for her work." Baisitina smiled faintly. Seeing her Lord hesitate, she seemed to read his mind and added, "I only give her a few Silver Coins a day."
They exchanged a look, everything understood without a word, and left with a shared smile.
High Cliff Castle’s main force had been away for nearly a month. It would be a lie to say there hadn’t been any anxiety, but fortunately, despite the dangers, they had come through unscathed.
High Cliff Castle had obtained almost everything it wanted: fame, new Warriors, and a boost in power.
During this time, Levi arranged a small meeting to introduce the new members to the veterans of High Cliff Castle. This allowed them to get acquainted before they began the gradual process of integrating.
The strong have a way of recognizing one another. The Centaur Warriors who joined High Cliff Castle were clearly outstanding examples, and they quickly hit it off with High Cliff Castle’s own proud and battle-hardened troops.
They were assigned to patrol the areas surrounding High Cliff Castle alongside the Jackal Wolfman Cavalry. The vast farmlands were a particular focus, being a top priority.
This would determine whether High Cliff Castle could achieve food self-sufficiency in the coming year.
They had to patrol strictly to prevent Wilderness Natives, starving from the harsh winter, from digging up the fields to eat the seeds within.
Soon after, in the taverns, streets, and alleys of Bailiu City, Minstrels began to endlessly sing a new tale. It was an epic about a Lion Hunter Knight named Levi, recounting how he used his courage and cunning to effortlessly crush the Wilderness Bandits.
Had Levi heard it himself, he would have been surprised at how accurately the ballad recounted the events of the war.
Details like "leading ten Personal Guards against three hundred Noto Warriors," "launching a night raid on a Wilderness Tribe," and "outsmarting a Casting Corps" were all perfect reflections of his actual experiences.
But it was so accurate that it paradoxically made people think much of it was exaggerated.
Then again, stories need a bit of exaggeration and flair to be entertaining.
With someone fanning the flames from behind the scenes, it wasn’t long before everyone in the streets and alleys of the Northern Territory knew that a Lion Hunter Knight, one connected to the war in the Southern Territory, had won a major victory in the Wilderness. His Beastman Barbarians and Feder Archers became the talk of every tavern.
Any commoners who had been worried about the southern campaign were put at ease by the involvement of such a capable Lion Hunter Knight.
The most direct benefit of this newfound reputation was that a steady stream of apprentice knights began to arrive at High Cliff Castle, having braved the wind and snow all the way from Bailiu City.
These greenhorns were obviously the easiest to sway. Just hearing the tales of High Cliff Castle from the Minstrels was enough to get their blood boiling with excitement.
They were completely convinced that by joining High Cliff Castle, they could use their exquisite Swordsmanship to achieve great deeds, earn undeniable merit, and be personally knighted by the great Lord of High Cliff Castle himself, becoming True Knights.
Unfortunately, reality hit them with a harsh slap in the face.
The majestic castle from the stories, which was said to stand atop a great mountain, was in reality just a small town perched on a little hill.
