At this point in the battle, the morale of the Kalia Town soldiers had been shattered with almost no effort. One by one, they dropped their weapons and fell to their knees, making it nearly impossible for them to rally.
But at that very moment, a unit of the enemy’s most elite Knights came galloping from the rear to save the day. The one charging at the front had a youthful face, even younger than Mier. His expression held an ineffable resolve; his eyes might have held a hint of fear, but they shone mostly with the excitement of soon making a name for himself.
He charged resolutely toward the Lord, the very man the Pro Soldiers feared like a tiger.
It was reminiscent of the Epic hero from a millennium ago, Saint De Angsa, who led his last ten Holy Knights in a charge against the Witch Demon King amidst a boundless Sea of the Dead.
Unfortunately, he was no Saint De Angsa, and the Lord was no Witch Demon King. More importantly, the Lord would show no mercy.
The moment he stepped onto the battlefield and drew his weapon, he should have been prepared for his fate.
With a light sweep of the Giant Sword, before the young Knight could even announce his name, he and several Knights behind him were reduced to a pulpy mess.
There were a full fifty Knights who cultivated Combat Qi, far more elite than ordinary ones. They would have formed a powerful assault team in any other scenario, but unfortunately, the opponent before them was a master they could likely never surpass in their lifetimes.
To the men of High Cliff Castle, the only commendable trait of these Knights who still dared to charge was their courage to raise their swords in the face of certain death.
Their disadvantage was that they only lasted two attacks longer than the regular soldiers.
’Where did this greenhorn come from, thinking he could make a name for himself off me?’
The Lord contemptuously flicked his Giant Sword clean, then shouldered the long, double-edged, and crudely mended weapon. His domineering posture was a spectacle in itself.
If nothing else, had that kid managed to withstand three of his attacks, his reputation might have rivaled that of the Lion Hunter Knight himself.
But alas, the boy couldn’t even withstand a fraction of a single attack.
"Levi, it’s their Casters!"
Just then, Count Tess cried out in alarm.
Three Mages in brown Mage Robes, holding Magic Wands, had appeared on a distant platform. They gazed over with calm expressions as the Magic Stones on their wands shimmered with flowing light. Their lips moved, muttering, and their robes fluttered though there was no wind.
A unique Spell, composed of the Titan Language and Elven words, resounded in a strange rhythm. This, combined with a surge of Magic Power, formed a terrifying Magic.
On an empty patch of ground in the distance, three circular Magic Arrays appeared in an instant, filled with countless intersecting Runes that shimmered with a mysterious light.
"It’s a Summoning Magic Array!" Tess said hastily, looking at the complex circular patterns on the ground. "They’ve taken heavy losses from us and won’t be able to organize an effective response anytime soon. We’ve accomplished our goal! There’s no need to get bogged down fighting these Mages."
"Let’s pull back!"
"Levi, I admit it—you and your men are strong. I’m completely, utterly convinced, alright?"
To be perfectly honest.
He set aside the memory of their last encounter at the Barony of Maple Leaf Lake, where Levi’s men had given a solid beating to numerous Knights wielding Combat Qi, proving the Warriors of High Cliff Castle were more than just for show.
But that had just been a small-scale brawl. A real battle with drawn steel was a different matter entirely.
It was only now, watching these fully-armored Barbarians crush the Kalia soldiers—men Tess himself had considered quite elite—more easily than striking a training dummy, that he truly understood the caliber of Levi’s forces.
However, the Stone Giants the Mages were summoning were not something that could be fought with brute force. Besides using magic to counter magic, the only way Tess could imagine threatening them was with large Catapults or Bed Crossbows.
"Tess, you’re starting to ramble," the Lord said, his gaze fixed on the three Mages. He desperately wanted to take them out with a thrown spear, but they were clearly no rookies, keeping their bodies concealed behind layers of buildings, making a clean shot nearly impossible.
"Besides, I don’t need you to admit it. My men and I have always been this damn good!"
Count Tess’s sword hand trembled. He was in despair, internally cursing this incorrigible, stubborn mule.
At the same time, he began to regret ever coming along.
He had assumed that seeing this kind of magic would make Levi consider retreating. He never expected the man to be as stubborn as a mule.
As three behemoths emerged from the Magic Arrays on the ground, the Mages’ Spell came to an abrupt halt.
The bodies of these Stone Giants were formed from massive, interlocking chunks of rock. Their thick, brown hides glinted under the sun. Towering to a colossal height, their sheer size was immense.
They were, through and through, Giant Beasts.
Levi had gotten a crash course on magic from Heather and Fatir, so he knew that Summoning Magic typically used a Magic Array to contact a being from another world and temporarily summon it.
Generally, the more profound one’s Magic Cultivation, the more powerful the summoned creature.
Perhaps these three Stone Giants couldn’t compare to the Giants of a millennium ago, which were said to be as large as mountains, but in this age of the magic tide, they could absolutely be considered powerful.
THUD! THUD! THUD!
The creatures were clearly of low Wisdom, obeying only their summoners’ commands as they charged with massive strides toward the High Cliff Castle contingent.
With every step these three immeasurably heavy Giant Beasts took, the ground shook violently. A few unlucky souls were even trampled flat, turned instantly into meat paste.
This terrified the surrendered Kalia soldiers, who scrambled to the sides to clear a path for the charging behemoths.
