Pioneer Lord: I Have Conquering System
Chapter 306 - 231: Conclusion (Part 2)But the reappearance of their Mages surprisingly restored some of the soldiers’ morale. Some even picked their weapons back up off the ground, raising their swords to cheer.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
Faced with the charge of the behemoths, not a single person from High Cliff Castle showed any fear. The Feder Archers raised their bows and let loose a disciplined volley of arrows.
But as a result, the Armor-Piercing Heavy Arrows, capable of piercing a layer of Iron Armor, struck the Stone Giants and, despite the incessant clatter, only managed to chip off bits of stone.
"Let me!"
Centaur Gus let out a furious roar, a thunderclap that shook everyone to their core.
Veins bulged on his bronze arms, and their knotted muscles swelled, visibly growing a size larger. Mustering all his strength, he leaped into the air and swung his broadsword with all his might at one of the Stone Giants.
He was a titan who had surpassed the rank of Quadruple Blade, nearing the fifth, and weighed several thousand pounds. His muscles seemed sculpted by the Gods, with not an ounce of excess. His Power was beyond question; he was definitely one of the top three masters in High Cliff Castle.
But the instant his broadsword met the giant’s swinging stone arm, a colossal force traveled up the blade with a BOOM, sending him sliding backward uncontrollably.
HUFF... HUFF...
Four deep gouges were carved into the ground where his hooves had dug in. He was heaving for breath, great clouds of hot air spraying from his mouth and nose, and the arms gripping his broadsword were trembling slightly.
The Stone Giant merely staggered a few steps before steadying itself, though a large chunk of stone had been hacked from its arm.
In his entire life, he had only been outmatched in strength twice. He never expected to face his third defeat so soon, and within the same year no less.
Levi’s gaze sharpened. ’No wonder that guy Tess had no will to fight.’
’Their bodies are made entirely of Giant Stone, with almost no weaknesses. Their defense is so tough that even a full-force blow from Gus could only chip off a piece of rock.’
’Regular soldiers are no threat to them at all. Only large Catapults and Bed Crossbows could possibly harm them.’
"Everyone, back the hell off!"
This level of battle was far beyond what mere grunts could participate in. The Lord roared, and the Long Spear flew from his hand.
In the distance, Clamo noticed the movement of the short man in a crowd of burly warriors and couldn’t help but sneer.
’Even that aberrant Centaur could only hack off a negligible piece of the Stone Giant’s body. What threat could a Javelin thrown by a mere human possibly pose?’
’In his eyes, this human must have lost his mind.’
Alas, while the Lord’s physique couldn’t compare to the Centaur’s, the difference in their Power was as vast as that between the heavens and the earth.
Unparalleled brute force was enough to create miracles. No one present could even track the Javelin’s trajectory.
Like a bolt fired from a Bed Crossbow, it instantly pierced the Stone Giant’s head, leaving behind a hole the size of a bowl through which the sky was visible.
The immense force didn’t vanish with the Javelin as it continued, unabated, into the sky.
The Stone Giant was like a small child flicked on the forehead by an adult; its massive body staggered back a few steps, then toppled over like a collapsing mountain.
CRASH!
With a deafening thud, the very ground shook. The Stone Giant’s massive body crushed countless houses, sending dust and debris flying.
The display of pure, brute force was a stunning visual shock. Everyone on the battlefield fell silent, the only sounds being the clashes between the other two Stone Giants and Gus and Zat.
Clamo stared blankly. "Is that a Giant Dragon?"
The other two members of the Clergy stared with even more vacant eyes. "No, sir... that’s a living ’man’!"
The instant he took down the Stone Giant, a system prompt sounded in Levi’s mind. He spared a sliver of his attention to look and was surprised to see his long-stagnant experience bar shoot forward by a huge amount just for killing a single Stone Giant.
His eyes lit up, and he instantly roared, "Leave those two Stone Giants! Let me have a go at them!"
The surrounding grunts scurried away, leaving a wide-open space for their Lord to put on a show.
"Your killer is Levi of High Cliff Castle!"
In that moment, the Lord couldn’t help but flourish his Giant Sword and stand proudly, like a knight-errant of old announcing his name to his foe before the final blow.
Unfortunately, these two clearly had no last words to offer.
When words fail, swords must decide.
The witless Stone Giant: ?
The Lord struck first. His Heavy Sword whistled through the air—no fancy Swordsmanship, just the simple principle of brute force creating miracles.
The two collided violently. With a loud CRACK, an arm made of Giant Stone crashed to the ground, shaking the earth.
In the process, the Giant Sword in Levi’s hand shattered, unable to withstand such unrestrained abuse.
"Haha! Good thing I came prepared!"
He tossed the badly chipped Giant Sword aside, and in the next moment, two identical, brand-new Giant Swords appeared in his hands.
He charged forward again, meeting the enemy head-on.
Ever since the battle up north, Levi had learned one thing: unless a Giant Sword was forged entirely from Refined Gold or other Magic Metals, it couldn’t withstand his brutal style of combat.
But the amount of money needed to purchase enough Magic Metal to forge such a sword was astronomical, far beyond what High Cliff Castle could afford.
Therefore, since the Lord couldn’t go for quality, he opted for quantity. He had the Blacksmiths of High Cliff Castle forge dozens of Giant Swords and stored them in his system inventory, ready to be retrieved at any time.
After all, even if they broke, the metal could be recovered and reforged.
As the undisputed melee brute, the Lord gave the two Stone Giants no quarter.
However, due to their immense size, they managed to force the Lord—who, since the start of his career, had rarely needed more than three moves to fell an opponent—into a prolonged battle for the first time.
To be honest, besides being a bit boring, all this hacking and slashing at lumps of stone made the Lord’s stomach start to rumble again.
The food he had eaten earlier had been completely burned off by his intense exertion.
...
Regulo sat in his chair, guzzling cup after cup of wine. His vacant gaze was fixed on a portrait on the far wall.
It was a portrait of a young man standing before a conquered town, a severed head impaled on the tip of his sword.
The story of how the Durant Family rose to nobility was an inspirational one. Their first ancestor was a Knight.
He followed the Debei First King in the rebellion against the Tyrant’s rule. Kalia Town was the first settlement that the Durant Family’s Knight ancestor conquered, and it was later granted to him as his fief.
They had toiled here for generations.
And today, history seemed to be repeating itself. Kalia Town had been conquered once again.
His only son, Beck, was dead. The three Mages, seeing which way the wind was blowing, had fled at some point. All his soldiers had surrendered.
The first time, he had easily repelled the enemy with the help of the three Casters. He had thought the second time would be the same, but he never expected to be defeated even more quickly.
The drastic turn of events made it all feel unreal. He could only use wine to numb the pain.
He carried his wine out onto a platform. Countless soldiers who had breached Kalia Town were surging forward like a black tide. A few Silver Armored Long Halberd Warriors guarding the castle entrance were the very picture of loyalty.
Facing an unstoppable enemy, they charged forward, utterly fearless of death.
"Run..."
He opened his mouth, but before he could get the word out, his loyal soldiers were chopped into mincemeat by the swarming enemy.
With a tremendous BOOM, the castle gates, their final line of defense, were breached. The Durant Family, it seemed, was now consigned to history.
Kalia Town had fallen.
The soldiers began to scatter in a panic, but most simply threw down their weapons and surrendered.
In this season of ice and snow, even if they escaped, how long could they possibly survive?
"Capture those three High Tier Clerics from the Mother Goddess Church alive!"
The Lord charged at the forefront, sword held high.
After he took down the last two Stone Giants, the Clerics were nowhere to be seen. They had most likely witnessed his heroic figure and fled in terror.
The High Cliff Castle Warriors escorted the surrendering soldiers into an open area, while Levi led a few dozen men in a charge into the castle itself.
