Hundreds of wooden cottages stood in tight rows across the vast expanse of the Highland, each surrounded by blooming tulips. Unfortunately, what was once a rare and beautiful sea of flowers had now been trampled into ruin.
Yada was an ordinary little village. Thanks to its proximity to Kolon, where its farmers sold the tulips they grew, life was relatively good. At the very least, they had enough food to eat and clothes to wear. The village had over a thousand residents and a militia of a dozen or so men to guard against bandits and thieves.
But now, these militiamen were all bound hand and foot, huddled like lambs in the village square.
Next to them, several bonfires blazed. Iron pots, scavenged from the farmers’ homes, were propped over the flames, their water boiling. Hundreds of ugly, four-foot-tall dwarfs with dark red skin and a pair of ox horns danced excitedly around the fires, chattering away in some unintelligible gibberish.
The bound farmers lying on the ground nearby wore looks of utter despair.
After all, they were about to become food for these monsters. No one could possibly be in high spirits.
Just before dawn, monsters of unknown origin had attacked them in their sleep. As unarmed farmers facing a powerful enemy, their resistance had lasted only a moment before they were all captured. Now, all they could do was silently pray for the Earth Mother Goddess to protect them.
"Broo, let’s eat that little human first! Her meat will be tender!"
One of the Little Demons, this one with a broken horn, drooled as he stared at a little blonde girl in the crowd, his crimson tail whipping back and forth in excitement.
As a low-ranking Little Demon from the Abyss, he had only ever heard tales from his elders about how tender human flesh was. This would be his first time actually eating a human.
Their original plan was to trick their way into the walled human city, but they hadn’t expected the humans to be so clever. Faced with the city’s insurmountable walls, their only option was to attack villages like this, which had no such protection.
"No! That female human is mine to use first, then we can eat her!"
Another Little Demon, this one with a sturdier build and a thin, crimson member hanging from his groin, stared greedily at the freckled, blonde girl in the crowd.
Then, he strode shamelessly toward the girl, making no attempt to hide his disgusting intentions.
’I’ve had enough of those female salamanders in the Abyss,’ he thought. ’They’re not just scalding hot, they’re rough and bony. And those damn Succubi, they’re all just sluts who suck up to the Demon Lords and won’t let anyone else touch them!’
’I’ve lived in the Abyss for almost a hundred years, and I never thought I’d get the chance to come to the legendary Material Realm.’
’I’m going to savor the taste of a human girl.’
’As the first Little Demon in centuries to get a taste of a human female, I’m bound to go down in the history of the Abyss, revered by all the Little Demons who come after me.’
’If I make it back to the Abyss, I’ll have to write a travelogue to immortalize this moment for future generations. Yes, I’ll call it *Broo’s Royal Palace Travelogue*.’
’I’ve never been to a human Royal Palace, of course, but a title like that is sure to grab the attention of many other Little Demons. They’ll spread the tale of how my journey to becoming an Abyss Lord began this very day.’
"You disgusting, ugly Demons! Crawl back to whatever hole you came from!"
He couldn’t understand what the monsters were saying, but their intentions were painfully obvious.
The burly Civilian Militia Captain roared in fury, shuffling his bound body to block the blonde girl.
"You’re so loud! How about I chop you up and make you into soup first!"
His pleasant daydream interrupted, Broo grew annoyed and kicked the tall human in the chest.
But unexpectedly, the human simply braced himself, and the impact sent Broo sprawling to the ground. He landed face-first in the dirt.
"Hahaha! You ugly Dwarf monster! Go crawl back to shoveling shit!"
Rote taunted him without restraint.
"Oh, Earth Mother Goddess, please send a righteous Knight to save Uncle Rote and us poor souls..." The little blonde girl’s face was deathly pale with fear. She clasped her hands to her chest, her prayer a trembling whisper.
Being so small and frail, she evidently hadn’t been tied up.
She had often heard Uncle Rote’s stories about heroic Knights. Whenever disaster struck, handsome Knights in shining Silver Armor would ride majestic white steeds to rescue those in peril.
At this moment, she wished more than anything for one of those Knights to appear before her.
But this was reality. No Knight appeared. The monsters’ maniacal laughter still echoed in her ears, as did the clear sounds of the other villagers’ curses and pleas for mercy.
’I’m going to be violated... used like a tattered pillow and then... Wait a minute... ’
"Heavenly Lord! What is that?!"
It was Uncle Rote’s sudden, shocked cry.
The little girl hurriedly opened her eyes. She saw a Knight, mounted on an ugly, three-headed monster, emerging from the distant woods.
He was clad in heavy armor that completely encased his body, making him look like the metal Demons from her grandmother’s stories—the kind that loved to slaughter living creatures. What was most terrifying, sending a chill down her spine, was the Giant Sword in his hands, a weapon far larger than the man himself.
Nina felt the weight of that Giant Sword alone would be enough to crush her flat as a pancake. This was clearly not the handsome Knight she had been imagining.
The Little Demons had obviously noticed the uninvited guest as well. They were startled at first by his imposing arrival, but upon seeing he was alone, their cowardly, bullying nature took over. They grabbed their pitchforks and hoes and swarmed him.
But they quickly paid a heavy price for their reckless charge. With a casual swing of the Giant Sword, they burst apart like droplets of water hitting the ground, scattering in all directions.
