Pioneer Lord: I Have Conquering System
Chapter 386 - 271: Winds and Clouds SurgingThe Horned Demon Wizard struggled up from the ground, his eyes shooting sidelong glances. His face was a mask of arrogance as he attempted to maintain his dignity as an Elemental Master.
Say what you will, but he did look the part, carrying himself with the unyielding spirit of a Caster.
He was leagues tougher than Sam had been.
"You must be the one who was controlling that Knight last time," Levi asked, his gaze sharp and intense.
The intellect of a Demon is already on par with a human’s, let alone that of a spellcaster. Regardless of their Race, their Intelligence is never low, because a fool can never become a Caster.
Among this group of Demons, only this single Wizard could have come up with such a plan.
Though the wizard’s appearance was certainly less than ideal, it seemed that among the creatures of the Abyss, only the Succubus was worth getting excited about.
"Lowly human! You are only worthy of smelling one of Lord Bartley’s farts!"
The old Demon Wizard clearly didn’t understand the old saying from the Far East Realm: "He who understands the times is a wise man." The moment the stinky sock was removed from his mouth, he broke into a sneering grin.
He even spoke in perfect Common Tongue. Clearly, all those memories he’d absorbed hadn’t gone to waste.
The atmosphere in the tent instantly grew tense enough to freeze.
WHACK!
"Son of a bitch! You Demons aren’t even worth one of the Lord’s farts."
Hog was the first to snap. A single slap sent the old Wizard flying. He spun two and a half times in the air before landing, seeing stars.
To the wolf cub, who had long since come to see Levi as one of the Gods, hearing someone insult his boss was a graver offense than being insulted himself.
The only reason he hadn’t cut the wizard down was because Levi still had questions for him.
Although the old Demon Wizard’s head was spinning, neither Shamans nor Wizards were squishy Casters like Mages. Their constitutions were still excellent.
Thus, even after taking a direct slap from Hog, he was only a little dazed.
Levi reached a hand out to him. Just as the Horned Demon Wizard flinched, thinking he was about to be hit again, Levi simply pulled him up from the ground and patted the dust from his shoulders.
"Answer my questions, and I swear on my faith as a devout believer in the Ice and Snow Goddess that I will spare your life."
As a true believer in the Ice and Snow Goddess, Fujero simply stared at his feet, pretending to see nothing.
The Horned Demon Wizard wasn’t actually brave. On the contrary, he was terrified of death. He had only put on a tough front because he was afraid he would be executed the moment he finished answering their questions.
"Really?" he asked, skeptical.
Having absorbed the memories of several humans, he knew how devout they were to their Deities. So, when he saw Levi invoke his own God as a guarantee, he couldn’t help but start to believe him.
"The Ice and Snow Goddess is watching us," Levi said, his expression so pious that not even an Ice and Snow Priest could have found fault with it. "Do you need any more proof than that?"
The wizard clearly bought it.
Never trust a Demon’s loyalty or courage. You’d have better luck believing a prostitute who claims she’s still a virgin.
If there’s even a sliver of a chance for survival, they will seize it, regardless of the cost—be it betraying their comrades or anything else.
"What is this? What does it do?" Levi asked, holding up the Scepter. It was fashioned from the skull of some unknown beast, sparsely decorated with inlaid red teeth of an equally mysterious origin.
"The Skeleton Magic Staff. It’s made from the skull of an Abyssal Fiery Fire Sheep Demon, and the teeth were taken from the strongest Magma Dog Wolf. It allows the wielder to more easily communicate with the Fire Elemental Plane and reduces the cost of casting Fire Elemental Magic by thirty percent." A pained look flashed in the Horned Demon Wizard’s eyes. It had taken the sacrifice of many Demons to craft that staff.
’Good stuff.’ The Lord pocketed it immediately, already thinking of giving it to Heather. The Zor Elf happened to be skilled in Fire Element Magic.
The Magic Wand may have been ugly, but its effects were undeniable. The Fire Elemental Creatures this scumbag had summoned earlier were powerful enough to take on a thousand soldiers.
The Lord was a pragmatist, after all. High Cliff Castle was currently dirt poor; it would be a crime not to use a free Magic Item that fell into his lap.
At this point, the Demon Wizard had resigned himself to his fate. As long as he could get out of this alive, he could always get another Magic Wand. If he died, well, then he’d be dead for good.
"How did you get here from the Abyss? And how many of you are there?"
The Horned Demon Wizard fell silent.
"If you don’t want to die, you’d better start talking!" With Zat absent, Hog was perfectly playing the role of the Lord’s right-hand man, and he punctuated his words with another slap.
The sheer Power of the blow was focused on his face. The Horned Demon Wizard let out a pained scream and fell to the ground, clutching his swelling cheek and begging for mercy. "I’ll talk! I’ll talk!"
"We stumbled upon an abandoned Space Channel that connected to the Material Realm. It was only with the help of our Demon Lord that we were able to come to this world."
"I’m not sure of the exact numbers. I only know that to prevent other Demon Lords from finding out, Duke Kefito only sent over an advance force."
"Elaborate."
Everyone present pricked up their ears. Fujero’s Affairs Officer even took out a quill and parchment to start taking notes.
The true situation in the south was what everyone most wanted to know. Of course, they wouldn’t just take his word for it. There were several other Demons left alive.
They would interrogate each one to corroborate the story.
Caution was a virtue, one that paid to be observed.
As the Horned Demon Wizard spoke and the Affairs Officer wrote, the expressions on Fujero and Levi’s faces grew increasingly grim.
The night wore on. They only stopped their questioning when the Horned Demon Wizard had dredged up every last detail, including the time he’d spied on a Succubus bathing several hundred years ago.
"You’re very honest. I like honest people," Levi said with a snap of his fingers.
