Planet Vs Aliens: Space User Saves the World
Chapter 135: Immediate AftermathMeanwhile, on an adjacent street—
"KYAAA! HELP ME! HELP MEEE!" This was the scream of a bloodied young woman trapped inside her car, staring in terror at the unstable sinkhole forming in front of her.
Crack, crack
The woman saw how the concrete road broke down, parts of it slipping down into nothingness.
Crack!
The pavement sunk further inwards, dipping as though something beneath had been hollowed out.
"Wuuuuu!!" she cried, seeing herself falling down into that hell hole forming.
Not far away was a couple, both with light colored hair and good-looking, who had managed to escape their car. The woman was not far from there, only a meter, and it felt a bit cruel to watch her fall when there was still time.
"Let’s go help," the woman said, and the man held her arm while holding on to a lighting post still standing.
The man was a bit unwilling, but what could he do? His girlfriend had already extended her arms...
"Wuuuu!" the woman in the car screamed, especially as she felt the instability of the surface.
The girl, Samantha, held on to her boyfriend with one arm, extending the other as far as she could. "Hold on to me if you want to live!!" she yelled, making the other woman flinch.
The man grabbed the post, carrying the weight of his woman, muscles bulging as he held on to the post. It was a bit of a struggle because Samantha had to stretch to the limit, but it still wouldn’t be enough to be able to muster strength to help the other woman out.
Fortunately, the woman in the car was flexible enough and managed to lift herself up, holding on to the outstretched hand.
Crack!
Just in time, the sinkhole reached the front of the car, making people’s stomachs drop. Samantha pondered whether to let go, but the woman had desperately clung to her now. Samantha’s eyes twitched when she felt the woman’s nails dig into her arm.
The blonde gritted her teeth and just did her best to pull her up. She and her boyfriend were both athletes, fortunately, so they did manage to do so, and the woman’s body finally pulled out of the car, yet unable to be completely pulled out.
Her heels were stuck, and so the foot was as well. In her panic, she moved her feet in a way that did not assist in loosening it.
"NOOO!"
They soon felt the car was about to plunge in.
"DAMNIT!" Arthur screamed, wondering what he should do next.
Fortunately, the shoe loosened as the car fell down. Arthur’s strength burst forth, pulling the two women about to fall upwards.
He reckoned he had never used so much strength in his entire life as an athlete. They dragged themselves as far away from the sinkhole as possible.
The woman somehow ended up even above Samatha and straight into Arthur’s arms.
Arthur’s eyes twitched, and he wanted to push the woman, but the ground was still partially shaking, indicating the sinkhole hadn’t finished growing yet. They dared not be complacent.
They dragged themselves to find a stable pole further away, and others found bollards from a nearby hotel that had already fallen. The woman desperately followed, grabbing Arthur’s shirt.
Samantha saw this and frowned, but knew this was not the time for drama. They headed to a fallen building that had given way during the earlier earthquake. At least they didn’t have to worry about a building falling down on them because it was already down.
The journey of a couple of meters was still fraught with shocks, though.
Samantha was somewhat distracted by the will to escape as well as the pain in her arms at first. When they were pulling the woman, she suffered not only some wounds from her nails, but also had her arms twisted. It didn’t seem like it was broken or dislocated, but it was definitely strained.
Not that the culprit cared. That woman was too busy clinging to her boyfriend!
Click!
As she was dragging herself forward, she stepped on something soft. It was someone crushed underneath the building’s rubble!
She gasped, shut her eyes, and continued moving forward.
The other woman had it worse, getting close and personal after she tripped, failing to grab Arthur’s shirt on time (he may or may not have increased his pace to avoid her).
"KYAAAA!" The woman screamed as she saw a lifeless arm, and then screamed again when she saw another person impaled by rebars right next to him.
When she tried to avoid looking, her gaze would be attracted to another area, which was no less bloody. Not far, people’s heads were crushed and she could see the brainmatter splattered.
The woman looked like she was going to vomit her throat to death.
"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Meanwhile, Samantha and Arthur had no mind to care for her. They just held on to the bollard while waiting for the earthquake to calm.
Screams, panics, and explosions emerged from all over. More buildings gave way, more people were crushed to death, and probably some other sinkhole formed elsewhere as well.
Not to mention, there were several places with highly flammable items, causing explosions and fires.
Boom!
BOOM!
The only fortunate thing so far was that the sinkhole stopped growing bigger. However, even after the shaking stopped, everyone found themselves splayed there, looking blankly at the sky above them.
Look: Even the sky had changed, and its current morbid reddish-grey color just made people fear for the future even more.
...
While the people outside were still reeling from the tragedy they suffered, Naia’s group had been bandaged up and treated, at least in terms of first aid.
Naia had already pulled everyone out while on the roofdeck, allowing them to see the aftermath of the initial impact to this place.
Even the kids were not spared from the site, and they outright cried immediately as they got out. They might not have seen much of the world yet, but because of the lack of a reliable adult, they had become very precocious.
"Wuuu...."
"Why does this happen? Wuwuwu..."
"Dead...so many dead!"
The adults were much more quiet, but their eyes were solemn, even reddish from sadness, anger, and fear.
"I know the space is convenient, but I will require at least 3 people other than Kael and I to be outside. You can switch every half day or so, if you want."
Coddling people in this day and age was especially harmful to them. Except for a few exceptions, everyone had to be anchored to ’reality,’ especially those who could still contribute outside.
In the end, everyone was willing, even grandma, granducle, and the kids, to stay outside the space and suffer. Naia seriously considered it, especially since they asked for it themselves.
In the end, they decided to balance it out by half as dependent and the other half as legitimate trainees.
Even the kids wanted in, so they only got Uncle out as an alternative driver, putting the rest into the space.
For them, they’d help with the space. Either planting, harvesting, or building things.
Anyway, no one was willing to be a parasite; they’d all have their own roles to play.
...
Naia’s group of people headed down together, close to each other. The building itself was still standing, though a lot of the finishing items had loosened or detached. For example, no ceiling was still up, and the appliances and furniture were all over the place.
For those they could help stand up, they would, but only those already in their path. For now, the apocalypse had just begun and they didn’t have to be so cold yet.
Kael took out his phone. There was no signal now, not even with satellite phones, because the meteorites burned all of those down as it approached. They were aware of this, so they had already downloaded everything they needed as soon as they received it.
For example, a very detailed map of the world. Of course, its last image was the one before destruction, but it was good enough. If they were lucky, some satellites might’ve been able to capture some meteorites as they landed, giving them a few exact locations of some rocks.
The hardware was in the villa though, so the actual information would have to wait until they reached their new home.
"How long before we reach the new place?"
"By car, considering the state of the roads, might take several days," he said. The travel time should have been shorter if they went through the tunnels, but it was unlikely it would still be accessible right now.
"I hope the trip will be peaceful..." Uncle said with a sigh. "I’d rather not experience another earthquake like that."
Just the thought of encountering a disaster while out in the open was terrifying.
He also didn’t want to depend on Naia’s space too much. They couldn’t always be together, right? He didn’t want to be ’trapped’ inside that limited space either, no matter how comfortable.
"Maybe not an earthquake..." Naia helpfully mumbled next to him. He didn’t understand the implications at first. But when he did, Marcus’s feet stopped.
He suddenly remembered the content of the book, and his face immediately paled.
