At this time, hundreds of kilometers away in the South was a family of four, running away from a horrifying lava flow!

The family had four members: The dad, Pablo, the mum, Jean, the 18-year old daughter Amber, and the 12-year-old son Allan.

A few days ago, Pablo had pretty much forced his family on this vacation.

He had seen his children get addicted to that social media stuff and would die if they didn’t have their phones in their hands. He made various attempts like punishing them, taking away their items, or even cutting off the internet.

The withdrawal symptoms were very real.

It alarmed him so much that he tied them up to go on this vacation!

He chose an internet-popular location by Mt. Dawn, near his hometown, a semi-dormant volcano known for its beautiful scenery that had been nourished by nature.

The towns around it were lush with vegetation, and the volcano itself was a tourist attraction, being the only major volcano in the country, not to mention its somewhat near-perfect conical shape.

He promised to give them extra allowances if they endured the week without being so annoying, limiting their phone use to a few hours a day, and they had to join whatever activity he planned.

The first few days were both fine and torturous. They went hiking, canoeing, barbecuing, and so on. The dad had fun, but even his physique wasn’t very good anymore, so all their bodies were aching by the third day.

He refused to cut the trip short, though! Especially since he caught them playing more than the allowed time! He couldn’t let that breach of trust go!

He reckoned that having a close-up view of nature, becoming enlightened about life, was the way to go!

And a close-up view of nature, they got indeed!

"Ahhh! It’s coming after us! Coming after us!!" His son, Allan, screamed like a pig.

"Faster, dad!"

His wife pretty much hit his shoulders in an attempt to rush him, as if he wasn’t already flooring the accelerator. "Honey! Hurry! Watch out! KYAA!"

"Dad! Dad! Hurry up!! Kyaaaa!" his daughter screamed at the top of her lungs, yelling closely from behind him. Pablo gritted his teeth. His ears were hurting!

His wife held on to all the grab handles she could reach, sending him instructions as if he couldn’t see the road himself.

Pablo felt dizzy with everything, the adrenaline rush making him shake, but he allowed his body to move on its own since he knew it was in its most alert state to ensure their survival.

While he drove as fast as he could, the car bumping up and down whenever they encountered a rocky road or an obstacle, the events just a couple of minutes prior passed over his head.

The disaster began after they heard loud explosions far away, immediately followed by an earthquake.

This was followed by continuous aftershocks that lasted several minutes. The floor rippled repeatedly, the cabinets opened and closed, car alarms blared everywhere, and all the pets screamed or ran.

Then the sky changed; the bright blue sky turned dim grey-yellow in color, and the wind blew hot dust that hurt the skin. The ash clouds were thick and deep, and there was even lightning there!

The family, knowing the volcano was about to erupt soon, immediately got into the car and headed out. Sadly, the earthquake caused various structures and posts to fall down, causing the drive alone to be slow and dangerous.

Now the ash was falling and the magma was spreading out, they could only try to prevent it from consuming them. Even so, there was no amount of car wiping that cleaned the ash.

"I can’t see anything!" Pablo gasped. Worse, because of the ash’s density, one could call the area under it as experiencing midday darkness.

It gave the feeling of dread, as if it were the end of the world...

Pablo frantically clicked away at his wipers, trying to turn on more water. It turned to mud. It was fine at first, but as more ash collected on their front glass, visibility suffered even more.

Jean bravely opened her window with a fabric held onto an umbrella, trying to clean it up manually, but with limited effect.

They had to close the window again since the ash entered the car and burned their lungs, but they had already suffered from painful breathing of the ash. The air in the car smelled even more metallic and sulfuric.

"IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD!! WHAT ABOUT MY GAME?!" Allan yelled, crying.

Don’t blame him for being so dramatic. He worked very, very hard to get his current rank! The thought of all that going to waste was physically painful!

Amber was similarly concerned. "Would there be no internet? There’s still no signal! Is this permanent?" She was mostly concerned with her social media and contacting her friends and the guy she was ambiguous with. They were all so far away. Thinking of their communications being cut worsened her anxiety.

To be fair, because of the ash, the kids didn’t know the lava was flowing behind them and how close it was, at least at first. They curiously looked back, as if wanting to hurt themselves, and they saw the lava emerge from the car, which roused another bout of crying.

The parents in front did not bother with them, focusing on the road ahead. It was just that no matter how much the swiper tried to clear up the view, it was not easy!

Pablo did his best to drive under this situation, but his wife kept blabbering near his ears.

"Go there! No, what are you doing?" "Turn left! Turn right! Go straight! FASTER!"

It was like she could drive better than he could. Neither of them could see much, OKAY!?

Fortunately, the drivers had the sense to maximize their lights, so they could at least get an estimate where the nearest cars were; otherwise they’d have gotten into an accident ages ago.

"There! Turn this w—"

"SHUT UP!"

"NOOOO! DAD! GO FASTER! FASTER!"

"I knew going here was a curse! Wuwuwuwuu"

"Wuwuwuwuw—"

They really didn’t want to die!
