While some people’s chase scenes were ongoing, others’ were already over. In a large mountain range in the north, the avalanche had finally settled down, and those who survived emerged from the snow one by one.

They weren’t obvious at first, but one by one, mushroom-like figures emerged from the dense snow, groaning.

Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, the young girl with expert riding skills was one of them.

However, none of them could celebrate.

Instead, their reddening eyes looked up and saw the mountain that had changed so much. Even if they survived, for now, their home had literally disappeared in front of their eyes. Who would be comfortable?

The abnormally reddish skies represented a sense of despair, almost like some darkness was about to eat them up. They knew that there was no way their village would’ve survived that, and there was little chance their fellow villagers managed to escape on time.

Their bodies shook vehemently, and it wasn’t because of the cold.

Then, there were the coastal territories that had been ravaged by the tsunami.

The magnitude of the earthquake that happened was not that high compared to others, but the tens of meters high wall of water created by the shaking of the sea floor certainly wasn’t.

It damaged everything in its path, destroying all loose structures and items in its wake. Several buildings even tilted, showing signs of liquefaction.

When the water finally regressed, the previously bustling city was turned to a mess, its streets overflowing with floodwater, the cars piled up or upside down, and corpses floated everywhere.

There were a few follow-ups due to the earthquake’s aftershocks, and people could only watch helplessly as their friends and family got separated from them.

Nature was like this. Once it decided to clutch on someone’s life, it was almost impossible to take it back.

Most people, after escaping the floods, decided to wait for rescue and stayed where they were, afraid that there would be more disasters coming. However, some brave souls did attempt to venture out at this time.

They went down as soon as they confirmed there was no new wave. Some who lived in lower areas even found kayaks to traverse the dangerous paths.

Some of them were smart and knew they could not wait for rescue. Others did not know this, but they still went out because there was something out there worth risking their lives for.

"REY!" A yell from the street sounded, looking for his lover who had been washed away not too long ago. "REY! PLEASE ANSWER! A groan is okay!" the man screamed, his voice shaky.

They got separated because of a dissipated wave. That said, while the major wave was already dissipated by the buildings, the actual force was still something humans couldn’t fight against.

Saum followed the flow of the water, but he had to wade through debris, often dangerous ones, and he also had to watch out for sudden deep spots. The water was dirty, after all, and there was no way to see what was underneath.

Luckily, he only suffered minor wounds until he caught sight of his lover. The man was alive, but his body was sandwiched between cars. Saum burst into tears.

He tried to pry him away, but the car adjusted, crushing the man further. "AH!" he screamed, and the tear-stricken Saum panicked.

"No, nono..." "Someone, help! Please!"

He cried and cried, but who had the energy to help now? Before Saum could dwell in sadness, he heard people approaching from the side, standing on a balcony of a nearby building just above the flood line.

It was a couple, along with their young son. They were haggard but not injured, and it was clear that they found a good hiding spot, likely above ground.

The man pulled a rope from the side; Saum helped, and they used it as a pulley. He swam over to help out, ignoring his bleeding wounds, and helped loosen the car.

It was only when it was loosened enough that he jumped back down to make sure Rey remained in place rather than fall deeper into the water.

"Thank you," he said after half an hour of effort.

"You better leave here as soon as possible," the man, Hubert, warned.

"We’re already heading away."

The two did not have time to question anything, especially Rey, who was barely conscious. Saum simply carried his lover to his back and followed the family to run inland despite the heaviness in their spirit and the injuries on their bodies. Adrenaline was a magnificent thing.

"Do you know what happened? How strong is the earthquake that caused such a tsunami?"

"It’s not just an earthquake," Hubert explained as they moved.

Hubert was a professor of physics at Nispedan University. He knew a few things and even had access to a radio, though that had been swept away during the flood.

"There were meteors."

"What?!" And wait, was that plural?

Hubert couldn’t help but look back at the events. When it happened, most people were inside the buildings and didn’t see such a sudden change. They just felt a tremor and a shake, and the next thing they knew, the sea was ruthlessly slapping the city.

"This was a worldwide event, especially since there were more than one projectile," he said. "There are many questions, but it is bound to change the world."

The family of three were all carrying the biggest backpack they had, carrying some light valuables and food and essentials, and they would get more when they reached safety. Basically, they were preparing for an apocalypse."

Saum’s jaw was clenched. Although he himself had experienced the disaster, it was still difficult to accept that the change could be...permanent.

"There could be more coming. There was a minor earthquake a few minutes ago; you probably didn’t feel it due to all the chaos."

And he was right. Those who had found high ground and were lucky to find stable structures saw something over the horizon.

"Another one!" people yelled, and the wave was even coming from a different direction.

They would later learn that these disasters would be continuous until the earth stabilized, but by then it was too late to escape.

The people could only look helplessly as another massive wall of water appeared. It was as if Mother Nature had decided to continue ramming into them, pushing them down, and making sure they never got back up again.
