Chapter 694: Inside Sifang Palace

“Clap! Clap!” The Black-Shirted Player clapped his hands high in the air, and the two Black-Armored Soldiers who had just gotten up and were preparing to attack not far from them tumbled flat on their faces again. He looked at where Xu Huo was standing, “We’ve achieved our goal. Time to retreat!”

Xu Huo was wearing the Invisibility Cloak. The Black-Shirted Player and Yi Pei couldn’t see his form, but they could pinpoint his location from the sound of his movements. However, the next second, his voice came from up ahead, “Since we’re here, we might as well go in and take a look!”

The main gate of Sifang Palace hadn’t been blasted open. He guessed that a Spacetime Item had been used inside the palace. Because new energy weapons would fail under the influence of Spacetime Items, the power of the previous blast was clearly not up to the energy cannon’s original strength. This meant that while the Spacetime Item inside had affected the cannon’s power, it wasn’t enough to completely neutralize it...

There might be a chance for a turnaround in this dungeon!

Although the main gate of Sifang Palace hadn’t been breached, cracks had appeared on its surface. The scattered Black-Armored Soldiers regrouped in front of the gate. Xu Huo released several bursts of fire, but as expected, Sifang Palace wouldn’t burn. The Black-Armored Soldiers, with their clothes and skin ablaze, showed no fear of the flames.

The Black-Armored Soldiers blocked the way one after another, forcefully widening the distance between him and Sifang Palace. Bullets rained down from the front. Xu Huo rapidly shifted positions, swept aside the Black-Armored Soldier blocking his path with a single sword strike, then silenced his footsteps and circled around the soldiers, charging toward the gate.

“Bang!” A sword energy light screen appeared in front of the gate. After the light faded, it had actually opened a crack in the door!

But at this moment, his invisibility suit became useless. The Black-Armored Soldiers swiftly turned back to defend. They didn’t even need to lock onto a target; they simply bombarded the empty space in front of the gate with everything they had!

Just then, a wave of air pressure suddenly surged from behind, and all the Black-Armored Soldiers experienced a brief moment of sluggishness!

In reality, Yi Pei had even exaggerated the item’s disruptive effect. At most two seconds later, the Black-Armored Soldiers returned to normal. Some of them, which had been entirely focused on Sifang Palace’s gate, suddenly twisted their heads around, their skinless, eyeless faces staring at them.

The main gate of Sifang Palace had been cracked open. Yi Pei and the other player had created an opportunity, but they didn’t know if Xu Huo had managed to get inside. This was as far as they could help!

“Go!” The Black-Shirted Player shouted loudly. It wasn’t just the two of them; several other players who had rushed over from a distance all turned and fled.

Successfully snatching the big drum could reduce some of the mental interference, but the Black-Armored Soldiers were currently their greatest threat. To survive, they had to escape from the soldiers!

The Black-Armored Soldiers near Sifang Palace split into two groups. One part turned to chase Yi Pei and the other players, while the rest remained stationed outside the gate. They didn’t enter Sifang Palace. Instead, they stood guard at their original positions, as if nothing had happened.

If not for the debris on the ground, the burning corpses and houses near and far, and the people screaming in the flames, it would seem as though time had returned to the beginning of the Ritual.

Xu Huo stood on the nearly pitch-black first floor. Looking up, he could see a massive eye sculpture directly in front of him. Red light poured throughout the palace. If he stared at it for just two or three seconds, the giant eye would squirm and come to life.

The enormous eyeball rolled left and right, finally fixing its gaze on the person standing below. A beam of red light shot out from its pupil, shining directly onto him.

Bathed in the crimson light, Xu Huo seemed unable to control himself. His eyes widened, and he took off the invisibility cloak draped over him.

The giant eye rolled to the left, and he looked to the left.

The giant eye rolled left again, and he once more glanced left.

A wet, squelching sound came from the furious, trembling eyeball. Xu Huo saw that the direction the giant eye was hinting him to go was completely dark, as if something deep within was watching him, pulling him forward.

“Did you hear that sound?” Xu Huo turned back to look at the giant eye.

The ceaselessly rolling giant eye quieted down. Gradually, faint, indistinct whispers replaced the sound of the eyeball moving, echoing through every corner of the palace.

As the sound grew louder, the now-still eyeball suddenly trembled violently. The red light on it vanished instantly, and the eye returned to its former, inanimate state. With the red light fading, the first floor of Sifang Palace sank back into darkness.

Although it was hard to see clearly, it wasn’t the pitch-black darkness of the direction the eye had been hinting him toward.

Besides the main hall enshrining the giant eye, the first floor of Sifang Palace had corridors about five or six meters wide on either side. Without turning off the “Murmuring Sphere,” Xu Huo raised his lighting item and headed toward the right, the opposite direction the giant eye had suggested.

Two minutes later, the corridor ahead looked exactly the same as before, right down to the turn. He paused briefly to knock on a window. The next second, a dark red light filtered in through the window, making the entire corridor seem instantly soaked in blood. Eyes opened one after another on the walls and ceiling. The moving eyeballs stared at him from different angles and positions, and the red light grew heavier!

Feeling an unprecedented pressure, Xu Huo immediately opened a door in front of him and went up from the first floor to the second floor.

His outwardly projected Mental World wasn’t normally strong enough to cover such a large range, but he had realized upon entering that Sifang Palace was also a place for exerting mental power. In other words, while the Dungeon Boss was using this place to mentally interfere with and control him, he could also take the opportunity to open up his own Mental World.

But the moment he opened it, he felt a sharp pain in his brain. He instantly understood that his evolution wasn’t as strong as the Dungeon Boss’s. This place wasn’t safe to linger in.

Of course, he wasn’t about to leave just like that.

Putting on the diamond gloves, he poured a mixture of pollutants and pathogens into his hand and began smearing it all over Sifang Palace as he walked.

But to his surprise, Sifang Palace seemed to have an effect that suppressed the pollutants. Within just a few seconds, the liquid he had applied shrank, dried up, and solidified into something like a thin film.

“Ha...” A rough, heavy breathing sound came from the end of the corridor. Before Xu Huo could turn around, he felt a blast of wind rushing toward him. He jerked his head to the side, and a massive axe flew past his shoulder, carving a trench into the floor!

“Straight-Line Distance!” He broke into a run. The moment he moved, the spot he had been standing on was torn apart by something like a tentacle. Deep in the corridor from which the tentacle had come, a colossal figure seemed to loom, several eyes glaring slantwise!

Xu Huo only took one look and frowned. The monster didn’t reveal its full form, but every single eye on it, each the size of a human head, was packed with countless human eyes. The strangest part was that those human eyes could still move and see!

He immediately threw the invisibility cloak back over himself and sprinted forward.

“Gulp!” With one step, an eye sprouted from the floor tiles beneath his feet, staring straight at him!
