Sam currently held several terrifyingly powerful Pokémon, but his absolute strongest, in terms of raw, unbridled destructive aura, was the Ice Dragon, Kyurem.

Since Ash had requested him to use his "strongest handheld Pokémon," Sam had no choice but to oblige.

He unclipped the standard red-and-white Poké Ball and tossed it out.

"ROOOAAAR!!!"

Kyurem materialized with a low, bone-chilling growl that sent the temperature around it plummeting.

Standing a towering 50 meters tall, the massive ice dragon practically filled the entire training ground.

Its rough, brutal, asymmetrical appearance, combined with its naturally violent temperament, made it a living nightmare.

Kyurem lowered its massive head and aimed its glowing yellow eyes directly at Ash's Infernape.

"Gwaah..."

Being stared down by a creature that embodied the absolute zero of death, Infernape's fiery fighting spirit disintegrated in an instant.

The flame on its tail actually flickered and shrank.

"P-P-Professor Sam!!" Ash stammered, his usual battle-crazed fearlessness completely evaporating.

"This... this is your Pokémon?!"

Even Ash couldn't help but tremble as he confronted the terrifying Ice Dragon.

He wasn't the only one startled. Brock and Dawn, standing on the sidelines, gasped and stumbled backward in horror.

Piplup hid behind Dawn's legs, shivering.

Even Red, the silent prodigy, tensed every muscle in his body under Kyurem's oppressive aura. A bead of cold sweat rolled down his cheek.

"His name is Kyurem," Sam said calmly from his side of the battlefield.

"I just caught him."

Ash took a careful, terrified look at the behemoth, speaking as if he were afraid of offending it.

"Kyurem...?" Ash gulped.

"Is this... is this the Kyurem from the Unova Region? The one that is said to... eat people?!"

Although Ash hadn't traveled to Unova yet, he had heard the dark legends of the Trio.

Kyurem had a particularly nasty reputation. It was said that mothers in Lacunosa Town used its name to scare children, warning them that the monster from the Giant Chasm would snatch them away in the night and eat them.

Sam was speechless for a moment. It seemed Kyurem's bad reputation really was a childhood nightmare for kids around the world.

To appease Ash, Sam smiled. "It's okay, Ash. He doesn't eat people."

Sam looked up at the dragon.

"Right, Kyurem?"

"Rooaaar~"

Kyurem, trying to be friendly to its master's guest, opened its jaws wide and gave what it thought was a polite grin.

It was a mistake.

The sight of a 50-meter frozen T-Rex baring a mouthful of jagged, razor-sharp ice fangs was the final straw.

Infernape completely broke down.

Unable to bear the overwhelming bloodline pressure, Infernape scrambled backward, desperately waving its hands at Ash, begging to be returned to its Poké Ball.

"It's over!" Ash groaned, though he didn't blame his partner at all. In the face of such a terrifying monster, fighting wasn't an option.

Survival was.

Ash swallowed his pride.

"Sam..."

"How about... we forget about the battle?" Ash suggested weakly.

"Alright," Sam chuckled. He had guessed this would happen.

Kyurem's sheer presence was too terrifying for most normal Pokémon to handle.

Sam held up the red-and-white ball and recalled the Ice Dragon.

Flash.

Without Kyurem, the overwhelming, freezing pressure dissipated instantly. The afternoon sun felt warm again.

Ash let out a massive breath, his frightened heart finally slowing down.

Dawn and Brock, watching from a distance, also sighed in relief. Red relaxed his stance, though his shirt was soaked with cold sweat.

On the other side of the battlefield, Cynthia, Diantha, and Sabrina exchanged amused looks.

Cynthia was actually trying to hold back a laugh. Since Ash had specifically demanded Sam use his absolute strongest, she knew exactly how this was going to end.

But she couldn't blame Ash; he hadn't been in Unova to witness the apocalypse they had just fought through.

"Now I finally know the gap between me and you, Professor Sam..." Ash lowered his head, looking a little dejected.

Originally, he had wanted to report his training progress and show off how much stronger his Infernape had become.

But faced with the absolute power of Kyurem, he couldn't even muster the will to fight. He had no choice but to forfeit before the match even began.

Dawn, holding Piplup, saw Ash's disappointment and stepped forward to comfort him.

"Ash, although you couldn't show your training results, you at least showed your courage!" Dawn said brightly.

"When Brock and I saw that scary Pokémon, we backed away immediately! But you stood your ground and faced it without retreating. You did a good job!"

Brock nodded encouragingly.

"Dawn is right. You are very brave, Ash."

"I know you really want to show Sam your progress," Brock continued.

"But you don't have to fight Sam to do that, right? You can challenge someone else! As long as Sam is watching, you can still report your results!"

Brock's words woke Ash up.

That's right! Ash realized. I don't have to fight the Professor directly to show him how much I've grown!

Ash's eyes swept over the people standing by the sidelines.

Red was out; they had already sparred several times this week, so another match wouldn't prove much new growth.

Diantha and Sabrina were options, but Ash didn't know them as well.

Soon, Ash's eyes locked onto the blonde woman smiling nearby.

"Miss Cynthia!" Ash called out respectfully.

"Can I trouble you for a battle? I want to show Sam my training achievements!"

When Ash called her name, Cynthia froze for a moment. Then, a playful, almost wicked smile spread across her beautiful face.

"Are you sure, Ash?" Cynthia asked, tilting her head.

"Do you want me to use my strongest Pokémon, too?"

"Yes!" Ash nodded heavily, his fighting spirit reignited.

"Please! Don't hold back!"

"Well... my strongest partner is also a Legend now," Cynthia warned, raising an eyebrow.

"That would be the best!" Ash grinned.

In Ash's mind, he assumed Cynthia was referring to her Galarian Zapdos.

He had seen it before. It was a Legendary, yes, but it was a Fighting/Flying type. Infernape was a Fire/Fighting type.

It would be an intense, martial-arts brawl! He could definitely handle that!

"Alright," Cynthia hummed happily.

Ash re-released his Infernape, who looked around cautiously to make sure the giant ice monster was gone before taking a confident fighting stance.

Cynthia stepped up to the opposite trainer's box.

However, she didn't take out a Poké Ball.

Instead, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a heavy, pitch-black stone.

CRACKLE!

Suddenly, the sky darkened. A massive burst of black lightning struck the center of the battlefield.

When the smoke cleared, Ash stared up... and up... and up.

Standing before him was a 30-meter-tall, jet-black mechanical dragon.

Its massive tail turbine spun with a deafening whine, and terrifying sparks of blue lightning flickered all over its body.

Zekrom, the Dragon of Ideals.

Ash stood there, completely numb. His jaw dropped to the floor.

It doesn't matter if Professor Sam is insanely overpowered! Ash screamed internally.

Since when did Miss Cynthia get a massive Dragon Legend, too?!
