desperately trying to climb higher and increase the distance between itself and the approaching frost.

it was still one step too late.
The white mist suddenly exploded!
Dense Ice-type energy instantly condensed into ultralow-temperature ice crystals.
Those crystals clung to the blue Sheer Cold beam.
As they froze the beam solid...
the frost continued spreading upward at an even greater speed!

it reached Articuno!
Frost appeared across the tips of its talons and along the edges of its wings.
Only a tiny portion of its body had been frozen...

And because of that frost...
Articuno immediately noticed something even worse.

and even its reactions...
were slowing down.
The terrifying Ice-type energy contained within the frost wasn't merely affecting the surface of its body.
It was invading deep into its muscles.
Its movements became slower.
Its reactions became increasingly sluggish.

Articuno knew it was finished.

it watched helplessly as the frost began spreading wildly across its body.
In less than a single breath...
the ice spread from the tips of its talons...
across its entire legs.
From the tips of its wings...
across the full span of both wings.
Then...
its torso was frozen as well.
The frost continued creeping upward.
Little by little...
until Articuno's entire body was completely sealed in ice.
And finally...
Articuno's vision went black.
Its frozen body dropped directly out of the sky.
In the final instant before losing consciousness...
Articuno experienced one last terrifying sensation.
It felt as though...
even its consciousness itself...
was being frozen solid.
