Chapter 81: Chapter 81: An Outing

Early the next morning, Julian and Maylene drove to pick up Paul.

Maylene said excitedly, "Paul, which Pokémon did you choose? Piplup, or Chimchar?"

Paul showed a Poké Ball.

"I chose Turtwig."

Maylene frowned slightly.

"Turtwig is good too, but once Turtwig evolves and gains weight, it’ll lose initiative and can only passively respond to enemy attacks."

Paul glanced at her calmly.

"You only see Torterra’s weaknesses, not its strengths. A type-specialist Trainer like you, who only excels at one tactic..."

"Is even easier for opponents to prepare targeted tactics against than Torterra."

Maylene huffed.

"Then, Paul, let’s compete and see who can fish up the golden Magikarp during this outing!"

Paul calmly shook his head.

"I’m not interested in some so-called golden Magikarp. I advise you not to focus too much on playing either."

"Learn more wilderness survival knowledge, so after you set off travelling, you don’t get lost and end up sleeping hungry."

Maylene glared at him angrily.

"You’re the one who’ll go hungry!"

Julian took out an old notebook and handed it to Paul.

"These are the basic Pokémon food formulas I collected and made for the eighteen types, as well as growth-focused Pokémon food formulas for fourteen Egg Groups."

"The Fairy type is not very popular in our region, so the materials must be purchased from Kalos or Alola."

"Generally speaking, any Pokémon can have a suitable formula created by combining its type formula and Egg Group formula."

"The advantage of basic formulas is that the materials are simple and cheap, making them suitable for beginners to experiment with and develop their own unique formulas."

Paul held the notebook like he had obtained an unparalleled secret manual from the martial world.

He thanked Julian respectfully.

"Thank you, Julian."

Julian smiled.

"After we get up Verdant Cloud Mountain, help me take Maylene around the mountain and let her adapt to travelling life in advance."

"Let her know what can be eaten, where she can rest, and which herbs can be used for treatment."

Paul nodded.

"Leave it to me."

At Trainer school, Paul’s scores in both theory and practical classes had always been first.

Having Maylene and Paul, two people of the same age, practise wilderness survival together would more easily stimulate Maylene’s competitive spirit.

When they arrived at the hotel entrance, Cynthia and Caitlin were already waiting in the lobby.

Seeing Julian’s car, the two "sisters" walked out of the lobby.

Cynthia sat in the passenger seat, while Caitlin sat in the back with the two children.

As soon as she got into the car, Caitlin seemed extremely excited.

"Hurry and set off. Don’t let my golden Magikarp get fished away by someone else!"

Julian started the car.

"Kale, are you good at fishing?"

Caitlin smiled and said, "I’m all right. I often fish by the sea."

Cynthia directly exposed her.

"She’s at the level where she can’t even fish up a Magikarp. She just likes joining in the fun."

Julian said, "I bought ten fishing rods, so it’s just right for each person to have two. Setting out one extra rod will increase the chance of catching something."

"Good, good, good!"

Caitlin was also worried her fishing skills would not catch anything.

After parking the car at the foot of the mountain, Julian carried a large pack filled with cooking tools and food. Then he released Hakamo-o, Gallade, and Primeape to help carry bags of food.

Maylene even carried a large pack filled with food on her back while hugging a big box of pastries in her arms.

Cynthia said, "Maylene, let me carry the pastries."

Maylene shook her head.

"Don’t worry, Cassia. This little bit of weight is nothing to me."

Caitlin frowned.

"Maylene, don’t force yourself."

Julian said, "There are many rest points on the way up the mountain. We’ll walk and rest as we go. I estimate that before we reach the waterfall, this box of pastries will already be eaten."

Paul silently stretched out his hand.

"Give me the box."

Maylene opened the box, took a pouch from her clothes, packed a few of each pastry inside, then reluctantly handed the box to Paul.

"You’d better guard those pastries properly for me."

Cynthia shook her head.

Maylene had clearly taken the initiative to carry the pastry box only so she could eat them at the first opportunity.

Caitlin: "..."

Are these pastries really that delicious?

Caitlin, who became full after two bites, would never understand the thoughts of a big eater and foodie.

Before they even reached the first rest point, Caitlin’s forehead had already begun sweating.

"How much longer until we can rest?"

Maylene patted the pastry crumbs off her hands and said, "We’re almost there."

Caitlin looked at the pouch at Maylene’s waist.

It was already nearly empty!

"You’re almost finished with that many pastries?"

When they reached the first rest point, Julian immediately took a picnic blanket and folding stools out of the bag on Hakamo-o’s back and handed them out to everyone.

Caitlin abandoned all image and directly lay down on the picnic blanket.

"This feels so familiar."

Julian smiled.

"Everyone rest for half an hour. Eat something and drink some water."

Julian took out a box of ice cream and handed it to Cynthia.

"Cassia, ice cream. Chocolate and vanilla swirl."

Cynthia’s eyes lit up.

"You even brought ice cream up the mountain!"

Caitlin immediately sat up.

"What about mine?"

Julian took out a box of ice cream and handed it to Caitlin.

"Cream flavour."

Caitlin was a little surprised. She had not expected Julian to know her favourite flavour.

Maylene moved closer.

"I want some too!"

Julian took out a box for her and naturally did not forget Paul in the corner.

Maylene snatched the ice cream.

"I’ll take it to Paul."

After reaching Paul’s side, Maylene lowered her voice and said, "When we get to the waterfall, you and I immediately take Kale away, leaving Julian and Cassia alone."

"You understand?"

Paul nodded.

"No problem."

After saying that, Maylene wanted to leave, but Paul directly blocked her path.

"My ice cream."

As if cutting off her own flesh, Maylene handed the ice cream to Paul.

"Consider it your payment in advance!"

After resting for half an hour, Caitlin completely lost all motivation to climb the mountain.

If Caitlin could use psychic power to lift her body and fly, she would fly straight up the mountain.

Caitlin took out a Poké Ball and released a Doduo.

Caitlin rode onto Doduo, feeling the breeze brush past her ears as she happily smiled.

"Now this is an outing."

Cynthia shook her head.

"Kale’s health has been poor since childhood, so she can only use this method to go up the mountain."

Julian clapped his hands.

"That’s my mistake. I forgot to rent a few Doduo for transport."

Cynthia shook her head.

"An outing means walking across the land with your own footsteps. Otherwise, you may as well drive around on the plains."

Without Caitlin as dead weight, everyone’s speed up the mountain became much faster.

They only rested twice along the way before successfully reaching the waterfall.

Caitlin nodded in satisfaction.

"I didn’t expect there to be such a spectacular waterfall here. This outing wasn’t wasted."

Julian pointed towards the cave not far away.

"That’s Primeape’s former home. I captured Primeape here."

"Thinking about it now, I actually miss that scene. Jangmo-o also evolved into Hakamo-o here while battling Primeape."

At that moment, perhaps because it heard their voices, a furry head poked out from the cave.

Two long ears.

Round eyes.

A body covered in brown fur.

"Vee."

Maylene had the sharpest eyes.

"Look, it’s Eevee!"
