Julian waved at Elekid.
"Elekid, we’ll head off first. We’ll come back to see you next time."
"Bii!"
Elekid passed by Julian and the others while holding the rock. He responded once, which counted as a greeting.
Seeing how seriously Elekid was training, Julian knew he had not misjudged this Pokémon.
This Elekid was worth catching!
On the way back to camp, Julian smiled and said, "Actually, I really want to have a Berry orchard of my own too. Once I catch Elekid, I can absolutely run an orchard together with him."
Cynthia revealed a bright smile.
"That sounds good. When the time comes, I’ll be able to eat Berries you grew by hand."
Julian nodded.
"Sure. When that time comes, I’ll invite you to Verdant Cloud Mountain again, and you can pick them yourself."
Cynthia’s eyes lit up.
"Okay."
No one could resist the fun of picking Berries by hand.
Maylene’s ingredient-gathering results were not ideal.
Other than Paul, who knew what could and could not be eaten, Maylene and Caitlin had absolutely no wilderness survival experience.
Paul was such a calm person, but when he saw the red-capped, white-stemmed, brightly coloured mushrooms Caitlin had picked, the corner of his mouth could not help twitching.
Paul kindly reminded her, "Those mushrooms can’t be eaten."
Caitlin blinked.
"But these mushrooms are so pretty. How could they not be edible?"
Paul said calmly, "The prettier the mushroom, the more poisonous it is. Though they can be used to raise Poison-type Pokémon and fed to Julian’s Croagunk."
"So it doesn’t count as your effort being wasted."
Maylene raised the mushrooms in her basket and said proudly, "I know bright mushrooms can’t be eaten. Mine should be fine, right?"
Paul picked up one mushroom and directly threw it onto the ground.
"Those can’t be eaten either. And they’re even more poisonous than the ones Kale picked."
"Someone half-baked like you is more likely to get poisoned to death than an ordinary person who knows nothing."
Paul looked at Riolu and Stufful and asked, "Did neither of you stop her and tell her these mushrooms couldn’t be eaten?"
Riolu helplessly spread his hands.
Of course he had stopped her, but Maylene had been very confident and refused to listen.
Having a Trainer like this was exhausting.
Paul raised an eyebrow.
"Next time, listen to Riolu. If the two of you took the same wilderness survival test, Riolu’s score would definitely be higher than yours."
After returning to camp, Paul told Julian his suggestion.
Julian excitedly clapped his hands.
"Right! How did I not think of that? Instead of teaching Maylene, it’s better to teach Riolu!"
He had to admit, Riolu’s learning ability was stronger than Maylene’s.
Julian patted Paul’s shoulder.
"You helped me solve a problem."
Although everyone had not picked many wild vegetables, it was still enough for a wild-vegetable feast.
As for Julian and Maylene’s huge appetites, Julian had considered the possibility of insufficient food in advance.
He had prepared dried noodles!
The siblings ate five pounds of dried noodles, mixed with wild vegetable pancakes, fruit pies, and other foods, barely reaching seventy percent fullness.
As they packed up and prepared to leave, Caitlin unwillingly raised her hand.
"It’s twelve thirty now. Let’s fish for a bit longer and go down the mountain at two, all right?"
"How can we go down the mountain in disgrace when we still haven’t caught the golden Magikarp?"
Cynthia smiled.
"Julian, take out the one I caught."
Julian took out a Poké Ball and released a lively Magikarp. Its golden scales shone brightly beneath the sunlight.
Compared to an ordinary Magikarp’s dull, dead-fish eyes, this golden Magikarp’s gaze was lively and bright.
Caitlin pointed at the golden Magikarp and asked in disbelief, "Cassia, you caught the golden Magikarp?"
Cynthia smiled slightly.
"That’s right. I caught it."
Caitlin gritted her teeth in anger.
"How does every good thing end up with you!"
A handsome boyfriend.
A cute Eevee.
And now even the golden Magikarp had been caught by Cynthia.
Caitlin was full of envy, jealousy, and resentment!
Cynthia shrugged.
"I was just casually fishing. Who knew I’d not only catch a Gyarados, but also the golden Magikarp?"
Caitlin pulled out her fishing rods.
"You already caught the golden Magikarp, so you’re not allowed to fish anymore. All the rods are mine!"
"Five rods. I refuse to believe I can’t catch an interesting Pokémon!"
Golden Magikarp stared at the river not far away and hopped, wanting to enter the water and escape.
Maylene grabbed his tail and grinned.
"You still want to run?"
Golden Magikarp struggled wildly, but before Maylene’s monstrous strength, Golden Magikarp’s power was negligible.
Golden Magikarp’s eyes instantly became filled with despair.
Julian smiled.
"This golden Magikarp is very spirited. It can be trained."
Maylene’s eyes lit up.
"Julian, why don’t we dig a pond in the backyard and raise Magikarp?"
Julian teased, "There’s still a lot of empty land in the backyard. You might as well dig a swimming pool directly."
Maylene nodded.
"That works. In summer, we’ll be able to swim at home!"
Julian shook his head.
"If you want to dig it, then we’ll go dig it. We’ll treat it as physical training."
In the end, Caitlin still caught nothing.
She swore she would go home and bitterly train her fishing skills, striving to catch a big fish next time.
After descending the mountain, Julian first sent Cynthia and Caitlin back to the hotel.
Cynthia waved.
"Julian, then we’ll go home first. This trip was a lot fun."
Caitlin smiled.
"Goodbye, brother-in-law."
Cynthia pinched Caitlin.
"Julian, goodbye."
"Goodbye, Cassia."
Julian then looked at Caitlin.
"Kale, come again with your sister next time. I’ll rent a boat, and we’ll go sea fishing."
Caitlin’s eyes lit up. She held Cynthia’s arm.
"Sure! When the time comes, I’ll definitely bring my sister!"
After that, Julian sent Paul home.
"Paul, when do you plan to travel to the Kanto region?"
Paul said, "I plan to stay at home and study according to your notebook for a week, then set off for the Kanto region."
Julian nodded.
"When the time comes, let Maylene set off with you. Help me look after Maylene a little. Once she has travel experience in the Kanto region, I’ll be able to feel more at ease letting her travel alone."
Paul looked at Maylene and nodded.
"Letting her travel alone really would make it hard for you to feel at ease."
Maylene bared her teeth and brandished her claws.
"What does that mean? What does that mean? Why can’t I travel by myself?"
Julian rubbed Maylene’s head.
"Paul, I’ll leave Maylene to you."
After returning to Veilstone Gym, Julian checked the Gym’s phone messages and discovered a call from the Pokémon Centre.
Julian called back.
"Nurse Joy, this is Julian Veyne. Was there something you called me about?"
Nurse Joy said, "It’s like this. Sweetwater Village, which falls under Veilstone City’s jurisdiction, has been attacked by wild Pokémon at night. It has seriously disrupted the village’s life and production."
"The villagers of Sweetwater Village watched the Veilstone Department Store celebration match and want to ask you, the provisional Gym Leader, to take action. However, the payment is relatively low. Only one hundred thousand."
This celebration match had definitely not been a mistake to participate in.
Look at that. His reputation had already spread.
Julian immediately said, "It doesn’t matter if the money is a little low. Protecting the peace of my hometown is the duty of a Gym Leader."
"I’ll go to Sweetwater Village now and try to handle this matter tonight!"
Maylene immediately raised her hand.
"I want to go too!"
