[Ash]: Charge straight at it?! She’s giving up her long-range advantage and charging forward?! What is Raina thinking?!

[Gary]: ...She’s come up with something.

[Ash]: What did she come up with?!

[Gary]: I don’t know, but she’s smiling.

[Ash]: Smiling?! At a time like this?!

[Gary]: Haven’t you noticed? She smiles every time she comes up with a plan. She’s exactly like her father.

[Brock]: ...She really is.

[Misty]: ...

[Daisy]: Misty, why aren’t you saying anything?

[Misty]: Oh, come on! Can’t all of you just watch the battle properly?!

[Violet]: We’re only curious about how you’re feeling right now~

[Misty]: I don’t know. It’s just... difficult to put into words.

[Lily]: A mother’s pride in her daughter?

[Misty]: All three of you, shut up!

The video continued.

Mega Blastoise charged directly toward Mega Steelix.

It did not attack or assume a defensive stance. It simply sprinted forward with all its strength.

Brock’s frown deepened.

"Steelix, don’t let it get close! Use Stone Edge!"

Steelix slammed its body against the ground.

Hundreds of crystalline spikes erupted from the battlefield, covering the entirety of Blastoise’s path.

Blastoise did not slow down.

It lowered its body and forced its way through the crystal spikes.

Broken fragments scraped across its shell, producing trails of sparks.

Yet its speed did not decrease in the slightest.

"Close the distance! Use Skull Bash!" Raina commanded, clenching her fist.

Blastoise stamped heavily against the ground and launched its entire body toward Steelix like a rocket.

"Steelix, use Protect!" Brock ordered without hesitation.

A pale-green barrier formed in front of Mega Steelix.

Raina stared at the barrier, and the corners of her mouth slowly rose.

She had been waiting for Steelix to reveal its final defensive trump card.

"I’ve been waiting for that."

Brock froze.

Then he suddenly realized what she was planning.

"Wait—you did that deliberately?"

Raina raised her arm.

"Blastoise!"

All three cannons opened simultaneously.

The light gathering within their barrels was more dazzling than ever before. Blue energy condensed into rotating spheres at their mouths.

Blastoise’s body crashed against the barrier.

Boom——!!!

The barrier shattered on impact.

"Now! Hydro Cannon at maximum power!"

All three cannons fired simultaneously.

The three streams of water twisted together in midair and merged into one.

"Steelix, hold your ground!"

For the first time, urgency entered Brock’s voice.

The column of water struck Steelix directly at one of the joints between its body segments, forcing its enormous body to slide nearly twenty meters backward.

Its tail carved a deep trench through the battlefield as broken rocks and shattered crystal spikes scattered through the shock wave.

For a moment, the entire Gym fell silent.

The dust gradually settled.

Blastoise remained standing in place, panting heavily as the rain struck its body with a steady patter.

On the opposite side, half of Steelix’s body had been driven into the shattered rock wall.

It struggled to lift its head, but eventually went limp. Its eyes turned into dazed spirals as its Mega Evolution came undone.

Forrest stood with his mouth hanging open.

After two full seconds, he finally raised his hand.

"S-Steelix is unable to battle! Blastoise wins! The victor is Raina of Cerulean City!"

Raina stood there, breathing heavily.

Then she rushed forward and threw her arms around one of Blastoise’s legs.

"We won! We won!"

"Blastoise!"

Blastoise placed a hand against Raina and responded with equal excitement.

Brock recalled Steelix and lowered his gaze toward the Poké Ball in his hand.

"I let my guard down..."

He could not help laughing.

"Asher, the daughter you raised is every bit as ridiculous as you are."

Brock walked over and gently patted Raina on the shoulder.

"You battled exceptionally well. You’ve surpassed me."

Raina looked up at him. Her eyes were slightly red, but her smile was radiant.

"Thank you, Uncle Brock."

[Ash]: She won! She won! She won, she won, she—Waaah! Pikachu, you shocked me again!

[Lorelei]: That Blastoise has repeatedly changed my understanding of what its species is capable of.

[Steven]: No. Blastoise isn’t the only one responsible for that. Its Trainer deserves just as much credit.

[Bruno]: And she’s only ten years old! Her potential is limitless!

[Cynthia]: Indeed. Raina and Blastoise have achieved an extraordinarily high level of coordination.

[Diantha]: That is the true appeal of Mega Evolution. It is not simply about becoming stronger. During the transformation, the Trainer and Pokémon truly act as one.

[Professor Sycamore]: Exactly! Mega Evolution is proof of a bond, and Raina perfectly demonstrated that during this battle!

The video continued.

At the center of the battlefield, Brock looked at the still-energetic Blastoise and shook his head.

"That was an excellent battle," he said.

He removed a Badge from his pocket and held it out.

"This is the Boulder Badge."

Brock placed it in Raina’s hands.

"You earned it."

Raina accepted the Badge with both hands and cradled it in her palms, her golden eyes shining brightly.

"Thank you, Uncle Brock!"

She carefully closed her fingers around the Badge, took two steps backward, and bowed deeply to him.

"Thank you for your guidance!"

Brock smiled.

"You don’t need to be so formal. Give your parents my regards when you speak to them."

"Mm-hmm!"

Raina nodded vigorously.

"I’ll make sure to tell them!"

Brock crouched until he was at eye level with her.

"Raina."

"Hmm?"

"You are very talented," Brock said. "But what is even more remarkable is that you have partners who genuinely believe in you."

"Blastoise and Gyarados both trust you. That trust is what allowed you to make it this far."

"No matter what difficulties you encounter in the future, never forget what that feels like."

Raina nodded firmly.

"I understand!"

Eevee bounded over from the side and rubbed itself against her leg.

"Eevee! Look, look! I won a Badge!"

Raina crouched and held the Boulder Badge in front of Eevee.

Eevee tilted its head and examined it for a long moment before reaching out with one tiny paw and tapping it.

"Eevee!"

"Right? It’s beautiful!"

As Brock watched Raina celebrating, he hesitated briefly before speaking again.

"Raina."

"Hmm?"

"Why is your Gyarados golden?"

Raina blinked before revealing a slightly embarrassed smile.

"To be honest, I don’t really know exactly what happened either... Dad said he would explain it to me someday when he was in the mood."

The corner of Brock’s mouth twitched.

"...That certainly sounds like something he would say."

"But!"

Raina raised one finger.

"Dad did say that Gyarados’s color was connected to something it ate while it was still a Magikarp."

"Something it ate?"

"Mm-hmm!"

Raina nodded.

"He said he once fed Magikarp a special medicine."

Brock froze.

"What kind of medicine?"

"I don’t know what it was called."

Raina scratched her head.

"Dad said he brought it back from... um, somewhere very far away. Apparently, it was an improved version of an ancient formula that could awaken a Pokémon’s dormant bloodline and cause a qualitative transformation when Magikarp evolved."

She tilted her head in thought before adding:

"But Dad also said the medicine only provided some assistance. Gyarados mainly became golden because it possessed exceptional natural potential."

Brock remained silent for several seconds before sighing.

"Ancient medicine, improved formulas... Just how many secrets is your father hiding?"

"A lot!"

Raina answered with complete confidence.

"Mom says Dad is a walking unsolved mystery and that I shouldn’t waste my energy trying to figure him out."

[VIP Chat Group]

[Professor Birch]: A special medicine capable of awakening a Pokémon’s dormant bloodline? Is this another substance that doesn’t exist in our world...?

[Professor Rowan]: Wait. The previous question revealed that the Prism Scale was an ingredient used to create a rare medicine in the parallel world. Could it have been used in something similar to this?

[Professor Oak]: That is highly possible! If our theory is correct, Asher may possess not merely one or two medicinal formulas, but an entire system of lost pharmaceutical knowledge!

[Professor Sycamore]: That deduction is reasonable. Judging by its effects, a medicine capable of awakening a Pokémon’s dormant bloodline would far surpass any modern Pokémon-rearing supplement.

[Ash]: So Asher used that medicine to make Gyarados turn golden? Then why didn’t he feed it to several more Pokémon?

[Gary]: ...Has it occurred to you that the medicine might not work on every Pokémon?

[Ash]: Oh, right.
