Chapter 313: Chapter 313: Stone Cave
Chapter 313: Stone Cave
After capturing Corphish, Ash’s group lingered on the beach for two more days before beginning their journey to explore Dewford Island.
Rather than exploration, it was more about taking May to see if there were any new Pokémon worth capturing, and also to let May’s Pokémon level up and accumulate battle experience.
Over these two days, it’s worth mentioning that May’s Wurmple evolved into Silcoon.
The first stop for the group was Granite Cave, northwest of Dewford Town. The reason they came here was that Ash received a message from a certain rock fanatic, claiming he was digging for rocks inside this very cave.
"Is this Granite Cave? It just looks like a very ordinary cave. Are there really rocks here that even Mr. Steven is fascinated by?" May looked at Ash in confusion.
Ash said, "Steven just purely likes rocks, so anything worth digging will fascinate him."
"Let’s go in and take a look first. President Stone said that the environment inside this cave entrance is intricate, so it’s better to be careful," James reminded.
Before the group even entered the cave, in a certain passage inside, Team Rocket Trio began their usual operation—digging traps.
James wiped the sweat from his forehead and asked, "Meowth, how deep have we dug so far?"
Meowth spread his hands, "I don’t know either, Meow!"
"Stop complaining. Catching Ash’s Pokémon is the most important thing. They definitely won’t expect us to dig traps in a cave," Jessie said with some pride.
Upon hearing this, James thought for a moment and asked, "But Jessie, the environment in this cave is so complex. What if Ash and the others don’t take this path? Wouldn’t all our efforts be in vain?"
"Yeah, will this plan really work this time?"
Meowth also couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
Hearing this, Jessie said angrily, "Alright, stop talking nonsense, hurry up and dig!"
......
Not long after entering the cave, Ash’s group encountered multiple forks in the path.
Even with his Aura fully active, the intricate environment within the cave made it difficult for Ash to clearly perceive distant situations; there were many active Aura reactions inside the cave.
May exclaimed, "Ah, this cave really has so many forks!"
"Don’t worry, I’ve marked every fork in the path. As long as the marks aren’t destroyed, we won’t risk getting lost," Brock said confidently.
"Uh... what if a wild Pokémon destroys the marks, then wouldn’t we...?"
As the extreme thought just surfaced, May shook her head and dismissed it.
Ash comforted, "May, don’t overthink it. Getting lost at most means staying in the cave a little longer. Our supplies can last for ten days to half a month without any problem."
Originally, after avoiding Team Rocket Trio’s trap, Ash thought there would be no accidents, but who would have thought that Team Rocket Trio was so prone to causing trouble that they accidentally cracked the cave floor.
When Ash’s group fell to the lower level of the cave, they were unlucky and immediately split into three groups, and Team Rocket Trio also dispersed.
Ash crawled out from under the mud, pulled Eevee out, and then attended to Meowth, who was stuck upside down in the mud.
"Meowth, you three idiots are truly exceptionally bold, daring to cause trouble in a cave. Aren’t you afraid of being buried alive?" Ash said speechlessly.
Meowth also had an innocent face, "Digging traps was Jessie’s request. James and I wanted to have a fair fight with you, Meow."
"Oh, you actually have such resolve? That’s quite rare."
"Of course, we are villains with great integrity!"
"Speaking of which, Meowth, how much salary does your boss Giovanni give you? To make you work so hard for him."
Ash was quite curious why Team Rocket Trio was so loyal.
"Ash, although Boss Giovanni doesn’t give us much salary, Team Rockets has given us new hope, so Team Rockets is a belief for us, Meow!"
"A belief? So you really want to earn merit?"
"Of course, Meow!"
"It’s good that you want to earn merit. Do you remember those two groups of guys you met before at the Ancient Ruins and the Devon Corporation building?"
"Are they the two organizations called Team Magma and Team Aqua, Meow?"
"That’s right. To be honest with you, these two organizations are plotting to capture the legendary Pokémon Groudon and Kyogre of the Hoenn region. Both organizations have an orb that can make these two Pokémon undergo Primal Reversion. You can understand Primal Reversion as Mega Evolution. If you tell Giovanni this information, it will definitely be a great achievement."
Ash wanted to see if Giovanni would bring his Mewtwo No. 2 from the Johto region to find these two organizations.
"Really, Meow?"
Meowth looked at Ash with suspicion.
He had heard of the legends of the Hoenn region before.
"Anyway, I won’t lie. If you want to earn merit, then tell Giovanni about this situation. If you don’t want to, then forget it."
At the same time.
May and Jessie landed in a dark passage.
"Ah, seriously, what are you three idiots doing?!" May looked at Jessie with a resentful expression.
"little girl, you can’t blame us for this. Blame yourselves for ignoring the fruits of our hard labor!" Jessie said.
Seeing Jessie’s unrepentant attitude, May gave up arguing. She stood up and began to search for an exit.
Seeing that it was pitch black everywhere, she pulled out a Poké Ball. "Torchic, come out."
"Chamo~"
May pointed to a deep passage. "Torchic, use Ember in that direction."
Torchic Spit Up a series of Ember in the direction May pointed. By the light of the Ember, May saw a group of sleeping Aron.
"Strange, what are these white stones? Are they gems?"
Jessie saw the Aron, and instead of being afraid, she moved closer and examined one of the Aron.
May also pulled out her Pokédex in confusion and began to scan.
"Aron, the Iron Armor Pokémon..."
It was at this moment that Jessie, with her itching hands, accidentally knocked down an Aron.
Seeing this, May quickly ran to the other side of the passage.
She had barely hidden for ten seconds when Jessie’s wails and a series of muffled footsteps echoed.
Clearly, Jessie was being chased by a group of Aron.
After waiting a few minutes, May slowly walked back when she heard no more movement.
...
At the top of the cave.
Steven, with his Lairon, found the cave entrance where Ash and the others had fallen.
Looking at the capture net beside the cave entrance, Steven knew that something had happened, so he immediately jumped into the cave with his Lairon without a second thought.
......
On the other side, Pikachu, using his super sensitive sense of smell, led Brock and James to a puddle.
Looking at the thick tree roots by the puddle, Brock knew they had found the way up. "Pikachu, let’s climb up together."
"Pika?"
Pikachu nodded.
Their movements were swift; by the time James came to his senses, they had already climbed a third of the way.
"Damn it, you big brute and Pikachu actually didn’t wait for me!"
James cursed, then used his hands and feet to catch up with Brock and Pikachu.
They had only climbed halfway when they heard a series of muffled footsteps and Jessie’s exasperated voice.
"Jessie?" James looked in the direction they had come from, confused.
By the faint light inside the cave, he could see Jessie being chased by a group of Pokémon.
