In the southwestern mountains of the Hoenn region, deep within the ranges near Lavaridge Town—

This was part of Mt. Chimney's outer ridges, not far from Meteor Falls.

Seated inside the helicopter, Kai looked out the window and gave a quiet nod. After challenging the Lavaridge Gym, he had originally planned never to return to this place. Yet in such a short span of time, he found himself once again stepping into these endless mountain ranges.

Life truly was unpredictable.

Back then, it was here that he had captured Beldum, encountered Dr. Cozmo after his abduction by Team Magma and Team Aqua, and later crossed paths with the Lorekeeper Zinnia during their escape.

Now that he thought about it, everything felt as if it had happened just yesterday.

After flying a bit longer, the helicopter gradually descended and landed on a flat clearing.

The co-pilot turned back toward Kai and shouted, "The magnetic interference ahead is too strong—we can't proceed any farther. You'll need to continue on foot. Our team has set up an observation post further ahead. Follow the trail below and regroup with them!"

Kai nodded. He and Misty adjusted their gear and jumped out, moving in the indicated direction.

Behind them, the helicopter lifted off once more. As the roar of the rotors faded into the distance, it soon vanished beyond the clouds.

With the deafening noise gone, the world finally grew quiet. Their ears—assaulted by constant vibration during the flight—were granted a brief moment of rest.

Unlike Mt. Chimney's barren main peak, this area was lush and vibrant.

Tall trees filled the slopes, thick grass blanketed the ground, and wild Pokémon occasionally appeared along the way.

Before long, Kai spotted several makeshift tents in the distance. A few men wearing Devon Corporation security uniforms stood guard nearby.

This must be the observation post.

As Kai and Misty approached, a man dressed as the squad leader hurried over.

"Mr. Kai, Ms. Misty, correct?" he asked—though it was clearly rhetorical. Headquarters had already sent their photos ahead of time.

More importantly, he knew very well that the man before him possessed strength far beyond anything they could compare to.

After Kai nodded, the leader continued, "The meteorite is located at the bottom of a small lake up ahead. Would you like us to escort you?"

"No need," Kai replied calmly. "There's a high chance of combat ahead. Leave it to us. Just wait for my signal—once it's over, you can retrieve the meteorite."

"I understand. Please be careful. That Deoxys is incredibly dangerous—it's already injured many of our people."

Leaving the observation post behind, Kai and Misty headed toward the lake.

As they moved deeper, both of them sensed something was wrong.

It was far too quiet.

Before this point, wild Pokémon could still be seen and heard—but here, there wasn't a single cry, not even the rustle of movement.

For once, Gengar emerged from Kai's shadow on its own.

Lately, it had been completely absorbed in manga, only appearing during meals. In truth, Kai hadn't spoken properly with it in quite some time.

Still clutching a comic book, Gengar frowned as it scanned the surroundings.

"Something's off… This place makes my skin crawl."

"It's probably the magnetic field," Kai said without hesitation. "Both Deoxys and its meteorite can distort magnetism. Otherwise, Stone wouldn't have gone to such lengths—or asked me to step in."

Ahead, a clear lake lay nestled among the forest, its surface calm and unassuming.

Gengar stared at it for a long while. "Be careful. There's a powerful presence ahead. If I'm not mistaken… It's Deoxys. I've only ever felt something like this from two Pokémon before."

"Oh?" Kai turned. "Which ones?"

"Mewtwo. And Ho-Oh."

Misty's eyes widened. "That strong?!"

"It's not raw power," Gengar corrected. "It's the feeling. Probably tied to the magnetic field."

Kai remained silent, assessing the situation.

From what he remembered in the movies, Deoxys was powerful enough to force Rayquaza onto the defensive. With four forms—Normal, Attack, Defense, and Speed—freely interchangeable, extraordinary intelligence, magnetic manipulation, flight, aquatic mobility, and terrifying regeneration…

Calling it overpowered wouldn't be an exaggeration.

That was precisely why Kai had adjusted his lineup before coming here.

As they neared the lake, Kai released Gardevoir out of caution. With Gengar and Gardevoir protecting them, their safety was assured.

Strangely enough, they reached the lakeshore without incident.

Kai checked his phone—no signal, and the battery was draining rapidly. Only 17% remained.

The communicator Kennedy had given them still functioned, albeit intermittently.

Misty glanced around nervously. "What now…?"

"It should be here," Kai said. "The meteorite fell into this lake. Deoxys must be hiding below."

Sure enough, debris from destroyed boats and aircraft floated across the surface—evidence of Devon Corporation's earlier failures.

A devastating battle.

"How are you going to lure it out?"

"Lure?" Kai shook his head and pulled out a Poké Ball. "I plan to force it."

"Come out—Gyarados!"

A flash of blue light erupted as a massive red Gyarados burst onto the water's surface.

For this mission, Kai had brought out his trump card. Knowing the meteorite was submerged, he had contacted May in advance to have Gyarados transferred over.

Even knowing it was Kai's Pokémon, Misty still felt a chill run down her spine.

It was simply too huge.

Kai raised his hand sharply. "Do what you do best. Stir the lake—force it out!"

Gyarados roared and plunged underwater.

The lake instantly churned. What began as ripples soon turned into violent, chaotic waves.

Moments later—

A red glow flashed beneath the surface.

Then another.

And another.

With a thunderous crash, a massive wave exploded upward as an orange-red humanoid Pokémon shot into the sky—Gyarados snapping at it from below, jaws wide open.

But it was too fast.

"This is—!"

Misty raised her Pokédex.

"Deoxys. The DNA Pokémon. Psychic-type. Additional data unavailable."

Just as expected.

Up close, Deoxys looked unmistakably alien—its twisted DNA-like arms, crystalline core, and cold, mask-like face sending chills down Misty's spine.

Kai's eyes, however, gleamed with excitement.

In the next instant, three Poké Balls flew into the sky.

"Come forth—my Pokémon!"

A red, blue, and yellow flash—

Moltres, Articuno, and Zapdos descended from the heavens.

Kai had revealed his true hand.

The legendary birds circled the sky in unison, their intent unmistakable.

Kai took a deep breath.

"Fly. Dance. And let's bring it down!"

Kai signaled Gyarados to dive underwater and retreat. At the same time, Gardevoir used Teleport, carrying him and Misty to a distant mountaintop.

Lightning, frost, and flame illuminated the storm clouds.

A massive vortex formed, drawing energy into the heavens.

At the observation post, Devon personnel stared skyward in disbelief.

"That… that's insane…"

"That's not Champion-level," the captain muttered. "Only they could cause something like this."

"Legendary Pokémon…?"

Above the clouds, the three birds danced in a spiraling formation, pouring their power into the storm.

Deoxys sensed the danger.

It retaliated—but its attacks vanished into the clouds, utterly ineffective.

Then—

The sky changed.

A colossal pillar of light descended like a waterfall from the heavens.

Deoxys shifted into Defense Forme, barriers forming around its body—

And was completely engulfed.

The explosion shook the mountains.

When the smoke cleared, Deoxys remained—half-destroyed.

Then it regenerated.

Instantly.

Misty gasped. "It healed… completely!"

Kai nodded grimly.

"That's Deoxys."

Even the Three Birds' combined attack wasn't enough.

But this wasn't over.

Kai reached for more Poké Balls—

Only for new enemies to appear.

Team Magma. Team Aqua.

And finally—

Deoxys unleashed its counterattack.

Four energy spheres launched outward—

All. Targets. Engaged.
