In the northern Puluo Ocean, the warship encountered a Fallen Beast Tide.
Mutated monstrosities swarmed from all directions, their bodies teeming with corruption. Onboard the ship, all soldiers prepared for battle.
The roars of the sea beasts were deafening. Yu Zhizhi squeezed her eyes shut. She could feel the wind shrieking past, piercing her ears, and hear the clash of blades. It was like being on a roller coaster; her heart was perpetually in her throat.
When she dared to peek, all she saw was a sea of crimson.
The deep blue ocean was stained red.
The man in front of her was reduced to only the half of his body holding her, and just half a face.
Yu Zhizhi’s face was pale as she watched his Regeneration Talent Ability restore his body and the other half of his face. His jawline was sharp, his gray eyes blazed, and the long saber in his hand shattered countless Fallen Species. He stood like the god of death, a towering figure above the crimson sea.
She didn’t dare to look anymore and quickly shut her eyes.
The wails of the sea beasts were incessant.
The hand on her back held her securely. In this chaotic, world-blotting beast tide, it seemed the small space in front of him was the only safe haven.
She didn’t know how much time had passed...
The fierce sounds of battle gradually faded.
Dark clouds blotted out the sun. The warship’s deck was slick with blood and grime. Countless corpses of the Fallen Species were piled high on the ship and in the surrounding sea.
Shen He flung his long saber, embedding it in the top of the ship’s sail.
He landed on the deck and set down the small female he had been holding.
While the man had been fighting, the petite young woman had clung to him like a koala.
Now, Yu Zhizhi’s feet finally touched solid ground.
Once she was steady, she slowly opened her eyes.
The ship was a complete wreck. Many crew members were injured, and an elderly man carrying a first-aid kit was checking on them one by one.
A Tiger Whale Soldier, who had been fighting on the front lines, clutched his injured right arm. He sat panting against a mast—
’I almost died in that sea!’
’This Fallen Beast Tide was far too ferocious. I wonder what they sensed?’
A brown-haired young man approached the two of them.
Shen He’s deep, mellow voice was perfectly calm. "Take her back to her room to rest."
He didn’t look at the little rabbit behind him.
’She must have been terrified by this ordeal,’ he thought.
During the battle, he had clearly felt the young female’s body trembling against his.
Yu Zhizhi suddenly spoke up. "Captain, I... I want to help."
Shen He paused and turned around. His repeated Regenerations had left his upper body bare, exposing his perfectly chiseled muscles to the air. One could even see the distinct marks of his body re-forming, twisting and winding across his back like scars.
The young female looked utterly disheveled as well.
Though uninjured, her dress was rumpled and splattered with blood. Her clear eyes were full of sincerity.
Shen He gave a slight nod.
Yu Zhizhi hurried over to the ship’s only doctor, Mr. Mo Luo.
With an assistant, the frazzled Elder Moluo could finally catch his breath. He and the female from the Rabbit Clan worked together, tending to those wounded in the battle.
Yu Zhizhi carried the first-aid kit over to the base of the mast.
She looked at the injured young Tiger Whale and slowly squatted down. "Let me bandage that wound for you."
"Thank you, Miss Healer."
The black-haired young man was flattered beyond belief.
Yu Zhizhi had very little spiritual power at the moment, so she could only perform simple first aid, leaving the rest to Doctor Moluo.
He was an Advanced Healer who always traveled with the ship.
Yu Zhizhi didn’t feel tired at all.
Following by Doctor Moluo’s side, she learned through observation, seeing many Healing seals she had never encountered before.
The last of the wounded had been treated.
Moluo adjusted his white hat and placed a bottle of ointment in Yu Zhizhi’s hands—
"I’m going to brew a medicinal broth for them to drink to remove the traces of corruption from their bodies. Ms. Zhi Zhi, could I trouble you to go to the Lord’s room?"
"This is..." Yu Zhizhi looked at the white bottle in her hand.
"Although the Lord is a Regeneration Ability User and any wound he suffers will heal, the meridians in his body are still depleted. Applying this soothing ointment will help his body recover better."
"I understand! Don’t you worry, Mr. Mo Luo. I’ll go right away!"
"Thank you so much."
A kindly smile appeared on the old man’s face as he watched Miss Rabbit leave.
Nearby, the brown-haired young man chuckled. "Are you also worrying about the Lord’s marriage, Mr. Mo Luo?"
Moluo sighed softly. "I can’t imagine what kind of female the Lord would even like. I think this Miss Rabbit is a fine choice."
With such a powerful regeneration ability, he didn’t need any medical treatment at all.
That ointment was only to make him more comfortable. It wouldn’t help with his injuries or his spiritual power in the slightest.
Doctor Moluo had told a small lie. He hoped Miss Rabbit would have more opportunities to interact with Lord Shen He.
’Perhaps feelings will blossom over time?’
As Shen He’s confidant, the brown-haired young man often couldn’t grasp the Lord’s inner thoughts. Although he and Doctor Moluo were on the same side, he was somewhat pessimistic about the matter.
Lord Shen He had captured Miss Rabbit, and it seemed he had his own plans for her.
’No matter how you look at it, it doesn’t seem like he was looking for a mate.’
They got along harmoniously enough on the ship, but once they returned to the Deep Sea Empire...
’What does Lord Shen He plan to do with Ms. Zhi Zhi?’
Yu Zhizhi returned to her room to wash up, changed into a clean, long white dress, and then went to the captain’s quarters.
This was where she had first met him.
She knocked on the door. A man’s voice came from within. "Come in."
Yu Zhizhi entered. Steam was wafting from the bathroom.
Shen He was leaning against the headboard, one hand on his shoulder. With a sharp CRACK, he set a bone back in place.
He had just showered. His short, silver-gray hair was still damp, and his sharp features looked somewhat softer.
He glanced at the delicate figure by the door. "Yes?"
Yu Zhizhi stood in the doorway and nodded. "Mr. Mo Luo asked me to apply your ointment."
Shen He paused in the middle of setting his bone. He looked at the young female’s innocent yet earnest gaze and, on a strange impulse, agreed. "Come on in."
Only then did Yu Zhizhi step into the windowless room.
She closed the door softly behind her.
The room was humid with steam from his recent shower, carrying the faint scent of sea salt body wash.
As Yu Zhizhi drew closer, she realized Shen He wasn’t wearing a shirt.
She quickly looked down.
Shen He sounded amused. "How are you going to apply the ointment if you don’t even dare to look?"
’He had a point...’
Yu Zhizhi slowly edged closer. "Captain, could you turn over, please?"
She had asked Doctor Moluo, and he’d told her the ointment needed to be applied to his back.
Shen He said nothing more.
He rolled over onto his stomach, facing away from her. He folded his arms on the pillow, rested his chin on them, and saw the young female slowly sit on the edge of the bed out of the corner of his eye.
He heard the cap of the ointment bottle being twisted open.
Yu Zhizhi squeezed some of the ointment out, warming it in her palm. Her hands trembled slightly as she saw the terrifying, jagged "scars" on the man’s back.
Taking a deep breath, she placed her hands on his back.
