—Sensen’s mother!
Yu Zhizhi froze. She took two steps back, suddenly at a loss. ’This is our first time meeting. What am I supposed to say?’
The calm slowly returned to Yusen’s ice blue eyes. He glanced at the young female. "I’ll go over there."
Yu Zhizhi nodded lightly.
She hadn’t heard anyone mention Sensen’s mother since coming to the Deep Sea Empire.
’Come to think of it, she must be Lord Shen He’s mother, too...’
The last time she’d heard anything about her was in the small cabin on Zero Star Street.
Yusen had told her a little about his childhood. He grew up in the Glaciers, an extremely cold region of the sea with perpetual icebergs.
He had never met his parents.
When he was five, he learned his father had died in battle. His mother left a letter and disappeared.
It wasn’t until this year that Yusen finally saw his mother again.
And after that...
He became a prisoner in a cage.
He had glossed over the incident, but at the time, it had sounded to Yu Zhizhi like it was somehow related to his mother...
A nurse from the treatment center brought them lunch.
After Yu Zhizhi finished her meal in the suite, she noticed the middle-aged Steward standing guard outside the door, looking like he wanted to say something but was hesitating. She asked softly, "Steward, is something wrong?"
"...Sigh."
The Black-clothed Steward looked deeply troubled.
It wasn’t his place to speak about Prince You Sen’s affairs behind his back. But the young Rabbit Clan female before him was little master Sui Sui’s mother, as well as the person His Highness wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
The middle-aged Steward said slowly, "Every time Lady Natalia visits, she causes a huge scene. It’s incredibly difficult for His Highness."
"...Why?" Yu Zhizhi was taken aback.
The Undersea Steward had just opened his mouth to speak when a woman’s shriek came from outside, immediately followed by the sound of things crashing and shattering.
The Black-clothed Steward said no more.
His face was filled with worry and heartache.
Yu Zhizhi peered out the floor-to-ceiling window. She could vaguely make out a beautiful young woman dressed like a noble lady. Right now, she was in a violent rage. Servants stood far off in the distance, but none of them dared to get close.
As for Yusen, he stood quietly before an old pagoda tree, silently staring at the sun-dappled ground.
Yu Zhizhi’s heart clenched, and she hurried outside.
As she got closer, she could hear the noble lady’s voice, trembling with rage. "Why are you still here?! Hurry up and get back to the Glaciers!"
Yusen watched the shifting light and shadows as the leaves swayed. His pale face was expressionless, and his tone was strained. "I need to take care of some things, Mother."
"This is not a place for you! The very smell of you makes me want to vomit. Now get out!"
Yu Zhizhi stared in astonishment at the stunningly beautiful noblewoman. She had heard that this woman was an incredibly distinguished SS-Level female of the Deep Sea Empire. ’But why would she say such cruel things to Sensen?’
’Isn’t she Sensen’s mother...?’
None of the servants dared to approach Lady Natalia while she was having an episode.
The ground was littered with shattered Crystal Balls—decorative ornaments from outside the building that she had completely destroyed.
The scene was one of utter chaos.
The branches of the ancient pagoda tree swayed in the wind. The Mermaid Youth, dressed in a white hospital gown, looked so frail it seemed a gust of wind could blow him away at any moment.
His face was drained of all color, and his light blue eyes were desolate, devoid of any hope.
Facing his mother’s attempts to drive him away, he could only acquiesce. "I will leave soon."
Natalia: "Leave today!"
Yusen: "I still need a little time, Mother."
The woman suddenly began to scream again. She gasped for breath, her magnificent black formal gown trembling with her body.
She strode up to Yusen and swung her hand, slapping him across the face.
SLAP!
The sound was sharp. Yusen’s head snapped to the side, a clear red mark already forming on his cheek.
"Disgusting!"
"Worthless!"
"Don’t think having human legs can hide the Enchanting Shark blood inside you!"
"Get out! Get out now!"
Natalia grew more frantic with each word. She raised her hand to strike him again, but Buli, who had just arrived, caught her arm. "Lady Natalia."
The young man from the Sea Lion Clan faced Lord Shen He’s birth mother, his tone full of respect. "You haven’t eaten yet today. Allow me to accompany you."
"Buli..."
The madness on the beautiful noblewoman’s face slowly faded. A hint of a smile appeared in her exquisite, dark gray eyes. "Has Shen He come?"
"He has," Buli replied honestly. "Lord Shen He sent me to fetch you."
Lady Natalia lived in the Royal Palace’s treatment center year-round and had a fixed schedule for her weekly outings.
For some reason, she had caught Prince You Sen’s scent today.
She’d flown into a manic rage that no one could stop.
Although the people in the Royal Palace were already used to it, but...
Ms. Zhi Zhi was still here.
The moment Lady Natalia heard the name "Shen He," the smile on her face grew more pronounced. She followed Buli away, completely forgetting Yusen’s existence before she left, not sparing him a single word.
As for Yusen, it was as if he had long grown accustomed to being ignored.
He stood under the pagoda tree, gazing at the shattered crystal lamps on the ground. His ice blue eyes were as still and dark as the sea at night.
Only after Lady Natalia had left did the servants from the treatment center hurry over to clean up the mess.
Yu Zhizhi slowly approached as well.
Yusen didn’t need to look up to smell the young female’s faint, sweet scent.
His previously placid expression faltered slightly.
Even though the little rabbit hadn’t said a single word, merely sensing her approach made his nose sting with the threat of tears.
’...It hurts so much.’
"Sensen..."
Yu Zhizhi called out softly. She didn’t get too close, staying a few steps away as she watched the Mermaid Youth’s eyes gradually turn red.
Yusen lifted his gaze to look at her.
A moment later, he slowly turned away, as if he didn’t want her to see him in such a wretched state.
From her angle, Yu Zhizhi could still see the red handprint on Yusen’s face. The front of his white hospital gown was stained with what looked like splashed soup. He was like a long-abandoned stray cat, cautious and pitiful.
Yu Zhizhi watched him in silence.
For some reason, she felt sad, too, and the corners of her eyes slowly grew moist.
Her voice choked slightly. "Sensen, let’s... let’s go back inside."
’He’s still injured. He can’t stay out in the cold wind for too long.’
A flicker of movement in Yusen’s eyes. He looked at the young woman standing two meters away from him, and at the sound of her soft voice, tears immediately streamed down his face.
All the emotions he had suppressed deep in his heart erupted at that moment.
From the Glaciers, to Moonrise, to the undersea world, and then to the Deep Sea Imperial City...
The more he learned, the colder he grew.
He would never mention it to anyone.
But in this moment.
Facing the Rabbit Clan female he loved and trusted more than anyone, from the very bottom of his heart, Yusen finally voiced the question.
The spring wind was slightly cool, rustling the branches of the pagoda tree. The dappled sunlight spilling through the leaves looked like the shattered pieces of the mermaid’s heart scattered across the ground.
Yusen asked through his sobs, "What did I do wrong...?"
