"Crying?"
Shen He hadn’t expected it. The little rabbit had been sulking in her room all this time, secretly shedding tears.
After finishing his patrol of the sea, he arrived outside the little female’s room.
The man didn’t knock; he just went straight in.
Yu Zhizhi was curled up on the bed, hugging a pillow. She lifted her gaze slightly and saw the shark’s silhouette approaching her bedside.
Shen He looked at the little female’s pitiful state. The corners of her eyes were red, and she buried her face in her pillow, seemingly trying to hide from him.
"What’s wrong?" It was rare for Shen He to be this patient with anyone.
He sat on the edge of the bed and watched the little female’s slightly bent rabbit ears tremble. She scooted further away, as if trying to distance herself from him.
How could Shen He let her "escape"? He reached out, grabbed the young woman’s slender wrist, and pulled her right in front of him.
He forcefully snatched the pillow away, cupped her chin with one hand, and wiped the tearstains from her face with his thumb. "Don’t tell me... it’s because I was too rough last night."
Yu Zhizhi’s cheeks burned. She tried to break free from the shark’s grasp, but he only held on tighter.
Shen He’s gaze fell on the communicator beside the pillow.
He let go of her.
He picked it up and glanced at it casually. The last call log was on the screen.
[Sensen.]
The smile vanished from Shen He’s stone-gray eyes. "Do you miss him, or... did you go crying to him?"
Yu Zhizhi had no intention of telling the shark what she and Sensen had talked about.
She rolled over.
With her back to the man, she said, "I want to rest..."
The next second, she felt Lord Shen He lie down behind her.
He wrapped his arms around her from behind, his broad hand resting gently on her stomach.
"You should be pregnant by now."
After all, following their night of passion, the little female’s belly had been full this morning.
The tips of Yu Zhizhi’s ears burned. A thought occurred to her, and she asked softly, "What if... what if I really am pregnant with a shark pup?"
Shen He’s breath caught.
Even just thinking about the possibility made joy well up inside him, impossible to suppress. He slowly stroked her abdomen. "Then I’ll take you back to Bishui Pavilion, and you can have several litters."
’She’s not getting away from me for the rest of her life.’
"What if... what if..."
Yu Zhizhi was on the verge of asking about the smuggler when a knock on the door brought her back to her senses.
It was Si Qi. "Lord Shen He, there’s been an incident in the waters ahead. It looks like escaped soldiers from the Chelsea Territory."
"Take them for interrogation first. I’ll be there in a bit."
"Yes, sir."
Shen He turned the little female in his arms to face him. "What were you about to say just now?"
Yu Zhizhi lowered her head, not daring to look at him. "Prince You Sen... he..."
Shen He scoffed. "Asking about the wedding? It’s off, of course. You can’t very well marry him while you’re carrying my pup."
Seeing that the Mermaid was still on her mind, Shen He felt a dark mood descend upon him. He rolled out of bed, his tone growing much colder. "Make sure you eat properly."
After Shen He left, Yu Zhizhi’s tension slowly eased. She sat up, thinking about how she had almost blurted out the word "smuggler." ’The shark is so meticulous,’ she thought. ’He definitely would have suspected me.’
Thankfully, she had caught herself in time.
Yu Zhizhi touched her stomach. She had to leave, and soon.
Staying in the Deep Sea Empire felt like having a knife dangling over her head. She couldn’t eat or sleep in peace.
It had been dangerous in Paradise, too, but at least she had slept soundly there.
And that went without saying for her time in Varolan.
There was nothing for her to worry about...
Gradually, Yu Zhizhi was beginning to understand how different it felt to be on a different [Camp].
Even though Sensen did his best to make her life better and more comfortable by giving her the title of "Undersea Healing Officer"...
...Yu Zhizhi knew that to the Deep Sea Empire, she was nothing more than a "Prisoner of War."
To Lord Shen He, she would be something even worse: a "smuggler," a little rat scurrying in the shadows.
Thinking of the escape time she had arranged with Prince You Sen, Yu Zhizhi had a meal brought to her room. She ate until she was full, needing the energy.
To avoid arousing the shark’s suspicion, Yu Zhizhi didn’t pack any luggage this time.
Every time she completed a mission, the system rewarded her with a filling Nutrient Liquid.
So, she wouldn’t starve in the short term.
Shen He was busy until late that night. When he returned and heard the little rabbit had eaten a proper meal, his stern expression softened a little.
As he passed her room, he noticed the door was ajar and couldn’t help but pause.
Yu Zhizhi was mulling over how to use her [Absolute Command]. How could she buy herself more time to escape?
She touched her rabbit ears as she sat on the edge of the bed, one leg curled up and the other dangling casually.
Yu Zhizhi suddenly noticed the figure standing outside the door. She froze for a moment before quickly scrambling to her feet.
"Lord Shen He?"
Shen He pushed the door open. "What are you thinking about so intently?"
"I was wondering if you’d like a late-night snack, Lord Shen He?" An idea struck Yu Zhizhi. "I’m a little hungry. Will you eat with me?"
It was rare for Shen He to see the little rabbit initiate an invitation. After all, she usually acted like a mouse that had just seen a cat whenever he was around.
Though at other times, she could be incredibly docile and soft.
He rang the small bell by the door.
A legion soldier arrived promptly. After learning what Lord Shen He required, he hurried off to fulfill the order.
In addition to delicious food, he had also requested wine.
Yu Zhizhi watched as Shen He pulled the small dining table over to the bed. Her heart began to pound, and she prayed that everything would go according to plan.
The soldier soon returned with a sumptuous late-night meal.
And wine.
Yu Zhizhi silently activated her Absolute Command, choosing to bind it to the man sitting beside her. A prompt told her to issue a command within ten seconds.
"Lord Shen He—"
Yu Zhizhi called his name softly. Shen He turned his head to look at her. Meeting the man’s deep gray eyes, she spoke, her voice trembling slightly. "Tonight... let’s get... drunk, okay?"
’Ugh, that didn’t sound like a command.’
She quickly corrected herself. "Lord Shen He, please get drunk...!"
’Ugh, this command is so cringey and embarrassing!’
Shen He just found the little rabbit, who had taken the initiative to invite him, to be exceptionally cute today. He smiled and filled his glass. "Alright."
He never drank to excess.
Usually, at legion banquets, he would only have a couple of drinks.
Tonight, however, for some reason, he felt a craving for it. No matter how much he drank, he didn’t feel the least bit tired.
Yu Zhizhi held her glass. She had only taken a single sip, but the wine on the warship was incredibly strong, burning so much that it brought tears to her eyes.
Suddenly, the man took the glass from her hands.
Shen He lifted the little rabbit up and placed her on his lap.
He gazed at her flushed cheeks, red from just a taste of wine, and her wide, round rabbit eyes. He lowered his head and nuzzled her nose with his.
’So cute.’
Shen He marveled inwardly once again. The little female rabbit he’d captured from the Sad Dragon Cave was just too adorable. He couldn’t get enough of her.
Especially after drinking, when his emotions were more freely expressed, Shen He cupped her cheek with one hand and gave her lips a long, lingering kiss.
Yu Zhizhi had just parted her lips to breathe when he slipped his tongue inside to meet hers.
