The Little Octopus passed an ice cream shop and pressed itself against the window, watching for a long moment. It then pulled a silver coin from somewhere on its body and bought two cones.
It handed one to the little rabbit.
The two little creatures sat on a roadside bench, eating their cantaloupe-flavored ice cream.
The town didn’t seem very big. A single long street was flanked by shops, with snack stalls, small taverns, and inns all packed closely together.
Yu Zhizhi finished the last crunchy bite of her cone, changed back into her human form, and headed for the inn across the street.

As she pushed open the door, a wind chime tinkled softly.

The innkeeper came down from the second floor, carrying an oil lamp.
She looked very young. "Looking for a room, guest?"
