Chapter 504: Chapter 502: Don’t Go
Her gaze shifted toward the distant mountainside.
She let out a cackle, then her figure shot away, vanishing from the spot in an instant.
Sensing her departure, the man, who had been meditating to regulate his breathing, quickly opened his eyes. His thoughts were in turmoil, a flicker of panic and hurt in their depths.
Staring at the spot where she had vanished, his hand, hidden beneath his sleeve, clenched into a fist.
’You left me behind again.’
He gritted his teeth in anger.
’Next time, I definitely won’t let you get away.’
’A disobedient wife should be locked up.’
He didn’t resume his meditation. Instead, he stood up and gazed at the spot where Nerida had disappeared.
Young Lord Aeron stood rooted to the spot, a look of frustration and a hint of grievance in his eyes.
He lowered his head slightly to look at himself, unable to stop a wave of self-doubt.
’Am I really that unattractive?’
’Is my body not good enough? Are my legs not long enough?’
’I’m clearly exceptionally handsome, tall, and long-legged, with a great physique.’
’My body is healthy and strong. I could definitely get my wife pregnant with a big, healthy daughter. Why doesn’t she want me?’
’Last time, she at least said goodbye before she left. This time, she left without a single word. So she really did just come to save me, leaving without a second thought once I was safe. Is this the "compensation" she was talking about?’
Young Lord Aeron stood where he was, shaking his head slightly.
’I should deal with King Reynard first.’
’Before she can harm the common people.’
With this in mind, Aeron decided to check on King Reynard’s situation first. He couldn’t let her escape.
Just as he had taken two steps, a figure appeared not far from him. At the same time, the sound of something heavy hitting the ground rang out.
He looked up to see King Reynard, still in her cloak, thrown to the ground. He wasn’t sure if it was intentional, but when she was tossed down, her chin smashed hard against a rock. She bit her tongue, filling her mouth with blood, and even lost a tooth in the process.
As a Cultivator, it was impossible to bite one’s tongue from a simple fall. The only explanation was that the other person had played dirty.
King Reynard’s face was now bruised and swollen, her hair disheveled and draped messily over her shoulders. She looked like a refugee who had just fled from some disaster—a truly pathetic sight.
Huh?
His gaze fell upon King Reynard’s face, and he froze for a moment. Clearly visible on both of her cheeks were the imprints of slaps.
’Besides me, only Nerida is here. It couldn’t have been me, so she must have been the one who hit her.’
A sliver of hope rose in Aeron’s heart. ’Did she do it to vent my anger for me?’
Nerida was standing a short distance away. Seeing him just standing there, she couldn’t help but ask, "Recovered?"
Aeron nodded slightly. "More or less."
He couldn’t very well admit that he’d stopped meditating because he was in a bad mood after seeing her leave.
"How do you want to deal with this woman? I’ve already sealed her Cultivation. She’s no threat to you."
It was Nerida who spoke. She had just gone to capture this thing. She figured she’d let him handle it. After all, this was the person who tried to kill him; it was always more satisfying to kill your own enemies yourself.
Hearing this, Aeron’s gaze shifted from Nerida to his imperial aunt.
"What do you think? Imperial Aunt, how should I deal with you?"
At his words, King Reynard, who had felt everything was under her control, trembled. Her eyes, filled with terror, fixed on Nerida. She recalled the scene from just a moment ago—this female cultivator grabbing her by the throat and slapping her repeatedly.
With each slap, she felt as if her Primordial Spirit was about to be shattered. She couldn’t perceive the other’s Cultivation Realm; all she could feel was an aura pressing down on her like a mountain. This person could crush her in the span of a single breath, as easily as squashing an ant on the side of the road.
King Reynard was in agony.
And she was furious.
She had been so close. She had been on the verge of success.
Before this, she had never heard of such a powerful expert existing in Silvanis. Or had this person been here all along?
Her nephew had hidden his secrets too well; even she had been deceived by him.
Seeing the woman look at her, Nerida shot her a vicious glare.
"Keep looking, and I’ll gouge your eyes out."
Fear flashed in King Reynard’s eyes.
"A misunderstanding... Senior, there must be some misunderstanding between us."
"For an expert like you to follow a mere man is a waste of your talent. If you are willing to serve me, once I ascend to the throne, I will grant you the title of King. We can rule this land together." The more she spoke, the more excited she became, as if she could already see Nerida turning on Aeron to help her.
King Reynard believed that there was nothing in this world that couldn’t be exploited. If it couldn’t, it was only because the price offered wasn’t high enough. Thus, there were no permanent enemies, only permanent interests.
She looked at Nerida and couldn’t help but say, "I am King Reynard of Silvanis. He is just a mere man. A man trying to become the ruler of this country? Is he even worthy? Senior, whatever my nephew can give you, I can give you more—power, wealth, beautiful women. As long as you wish, we can share the world."
Nerida: "..."
She held up a hand to stop her.
"Back, back, back... Are you insane?"
’What does she mean, "a mere man"? Everything King Reynard said was demeaning and dismissive of men, as if they should just get married off and do embroidery. By that logic, isn’t she looking down on me, too? I’m a woman, after all. Does she think I’m only good for getting married and having children?’
"King Reynard..."
Aeron stepped forward, pressing a sword directly against her throat.
His eyes were dark as he stared at her, and he said in a low voice, "Have you said enough? Who are you trying to sway?"
’It’s bad enough that King Reynard tried to kill me, but now she’s trying to win over my wife right in front of me. Even if our relationship was an accident, it’s a fact that she is my wife.’
’Winning Nerida over is one thing, but offering her beautiful women? In all of Silvanis, who is more handsome than me? She doesn’t even want me, so she definitely won’t want anyone else. Right, she definitely won’t.’
At this thought, he glanced at Nerida, huffed, and gritted his teeth.
Nerida: "..."
’Why is the Young Master looking at me? I didn’t say anything, did I?’ It took her a moment to realize, and she took a step back. ’Do I get the feeling I’ve found myself a fierce husband? No, it must be my imagination. Definitely my imagination.’
Aeron’s gaze returned to King Reynard. "I don’t know if I’m worthy or not," he said grimly, "but I know you certainly are not. Using living people as sacrifices for your Cultivation, killing so many innocent people, and attempting to murder the Crown Prince of The Royal Family to put me to death. For each and every one of these crimes, tell me, don’t you deserve to die?"
King Reynard was furious.
"That’s not it! I did nothing wrong! I was the one who was supposed to sit on that throne! You stole my position, you’re the one who should die! I just wanted to become stronger, that’s all. So what if a few ants died? They’re dead, and that’s that."
As her words faded,
Aeron’s sword had already slit her throat.
Her eyes widened.
"You... you..."
Young Lord Aeron ran a finger lightly along the blade of his sword before plunging it straight into the ground in front of King Reynard. In the next moment, an Enchantment Array lit up, and King Reynard’s body turned to dust and smoke within the Array.
He closed his eyes.
Then he turned around.
Seeing him standing there silently, Nerida couldn’t help but ask, "Are you all right?"
He shook his head slightly. "I’m fine."
