Chapter 505: Chapter 503: Don’t Go
Aeron’s grip on his sword tightened.
He had killed King Reynard.
And utterly destroyed her Divine Soul.
But Aeron didn’t regret it, even though she was his royal aunt—his own mother’s younger sister. Those who do wrong must bear the consequences. The moment she had tried to kill him, she had sealed her fate. He would show her no mercy.
His gaze shifted to Nerida.
"She was my royal aunt," Aeron murmured. As Nerida’s eyes turned to him, he added, "I killed her."
Hearing this, Nerida glanced at him. She hummed in acknowledgment and said in a low voice, "She tried to kill you. It’s perfectly reasonable that you killed her."
’Between you dying and someone else dying, it’s always better for the other person to die. Nothing wrong with that. Doesn’t matter who they are. If someone wants you dead, they’re an enemy.’
Aeron looked up at her, then lowered his head slightly and murmured, "You don’t think I’m too heartless? She was my royal aunt."
"Huh? Of course not." Nerida waved her hand dismissively. "I think you might have the wrong idea about me."
She gently raised a hand, and at that moment, Demonic Qi swirled around her. She pointed to herself and said softly, "See this? Look at all my Demonic Qi, practically smoking with black energy. And you’re talking to me, a Demon Cultivator, about things like this?" ’All I know is, if others don’t bother me, I won’t bother them. But if someone crosses me, I’ll grind their bones to dust.’
Seeing Aeron standing there in a daze, Nerida spoke again before he could, her voice low. "Don’t overthink it. What you did wasn’t ruthless. Think of it this way: no matter who they are, the moment they decide to kill you, they become your enemy. Mercy for your enemy is cruelty to yourself. So you weren’t wrong to kill her. To use the words of the Righteous Immortal Sect, you were ’enacting heaven’s will and eliminating a public menace.’"
Aeron chuckled.
"You’re right."
He knew he hadn’t done anything wrong, but he couldn’t help the ache in his heart.
When he was little, his royal aunt had held him and even bought him candied hawthorns. But time had passed, and everything was different now. Power and strength had blinded her.
Standing there in silence, Aeron raised his eyes slightly, his gaze landing on Nerida not far from him. He thought about how he hadn’t been able to get her out of his mind all this time, yet she had never once come to find him. At this thought, he lowered his head slightly.
"I didn’t expect you to come save me."
The moment he spoke, the atmosphere grew a little delicate.
Nerida’s gaze fell upon him. Thinking of her own "eat and run" behavior, she couldn’t help but let out a dry laugh. ’My brain just can’t keep up with my mouth.’
"I’d come. Of course, I’d come."
"You called for me, so I had to come!"
The words had barely left her mouth when she realized how strange they sounded, so she decided to just shut up.
Aeron, however, was taken aback for a moment. ’What did she mean by that? Every time this woman opens her mouth, she makes me feel like I hold a special place in her heart. Is this just what happens with beautiful people? Everything they say sounds good.’
Aeron averted his gaze. He turned his back to her and looked up slightly at the night sky.
He stood there quietly, not saying a word.
Nerida’s eyes followed him. From her perspective, although Young Lord Aeron looked a little worse for wear, he had now regained that aloof, noble air of his. It reminded her of the first time she had ever seen him.
Just as Nerida was starting to feel the oppressive atmosphere become quite uncomfortable, she heard him speak.
"Nerida."
The moment he spoke, Nerida, whose thoughts had been wandering, quickly straightened up and subconsciously glanced at him.
"You called me?"
She saw him turn slightly to look back at her.
Nerida nodded slightly.
"Go on, I’m listening."
Seeing her being so agreeable, Aeron was left speechless. ’What is with this woman? When I thought she was my wife, she pulled on her pants and refused to acknowledge it. Now she’s making me feel like I’m special to her again.’
’This woman’s mind is so hard to understand.’
But regardless, she had appeared here tonight. Deep down, Aeron was still a little happy. Just when he thought he was going to die, she had shown up.
She hadn’t lied to him.
And yet, his heart ached with a sour bitterness.
He was a dignified Young Master, and he had given his untainted self to her. Yet she refused to take responsibility. For a man, this was a humiliation. It was a sign of disrespect, of being looked down upon. Fortunately, he wasn’t the type of man who would fall apart just because of a woman.
Thinking of this, he said, "Nerida, did you come to save me out of pity? Or to compensate me? Even if you hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have blamed you."
’How was I supposed to answer that?’
Nerida had a feeling he didn’t mean that literally. ’If I hadn’t come, he wouldn’t have blamed me? That’s definitely the opposite of what he means.’
"No. I told you, if you were in danger, I would be the first to help. I always keep my word." ’Of course, as a Demon Cultivator, I don’t *always* keep my word. Not one hundred percent of the time.’
He glanced at her and said, "So you’re a good person, then?"
Nerida corrected him with a serious expression, "No. As a Demon Cultivator, I admit I’m no saint."
Aeron: "..."
’It was the first time he’d ever met someone who would so openly admit to not being a good person.’
He turned his head away, his back to her once more.
This time he didn’t remain silent, instead asking in a low voice, "Nerida, what are your plans now that you’ve saved me?"
’What are my plans?’
’I’m a busy woman! Obviously, I need to find a way out of this place. I can’t stay here forever.’ Thinking this, she replied in earnest, "I’ll be leaving here, I suppose."
Hearing this, Young Lord Aeron, who had his back to her, stiffened. He lowered his head slightly and murmured, "You’re still leaving?"
Nerida looked at his back, a brow slightly raised.
’Why does that sound so pitiful? He’s a grown man, yet he somehow sounds like I’m a deadbeat wife abandoning her husband and child.’
She quickly pushed the improper thought from her mind.
Just as she was about to speak, she saw him turn around with a serious expression and walk toward her, until his tall, slender figure stood right in front of her.
Nerida took a step back.
"Um... Aeron."
Hearing her say his name, Aeron froze for a second. ’So this is what it sounds like when she says my name. It’s as beautiful as it was back then.’
As a certain memory came to mind, the tips of his ears turned red.
’Damn it, why am I so shameless?’
But what he said was, "Aren’t you leaving? If you’re going to leave, then go. Leave right now."
Looking at the face of the man before her.
A month ago, they had slept together.
Their eyes met, and Nerida felt she ought to make things clear. With that in mind, she spoke first. "You might not know this, but I’m not from Silvanis."
Hearing this, Aeron didn’t seem surprised. He nodded slightly and replied, "Mm, I guessed as much."
’Throughout all of Silvanis, you couldn’t find a single person whose Cultivation was stronger than hers. Given her level of Cultivation, Aeron had suspected she might have come from beyond Silvanis.’
