Chapter 328: Chapter 329 - She is back

Soon, they found traces of smoke rising from somewhere in the distance. The sight immediately filled Hana with hope.

"They’re there!" she exclaimed, grabbing the boy’s hand and eagerly dragging him toward the smoke.

When they finally reached the area, Hana found the three cars parked in a rough circle, with everyone gathered around a campfire in the middle. She slowed down and carefully poked her head through the gap between two of the cars, a mischievous grin spreading across her face.

"Let’s surprise them..."

Yunfeng and Shao seemed to be missing, but there was someone else sitting around the fire whom Hana hadn’t expected to see at all.

"Mom..." she whispered.

As if sensing something, her mother suddenly turned in her direction.

"Hana... Oh my God!"

Jinju immediately jumped to her feet and rushed toward her. Hana didn’t wait for her to reach her. She squeezed through the gap between the cars and threw herself into her mother’s arms.

"Mommy!"

"Oh, my darling! Where on earth did you go?" Jinju cried, hugging her tightly before immediately pulling back to inspect her. "We were all so worried! Are you hurt? Did something bite you? Let me see your arms. Your legs too!"

She fussed over Hana, checking her from head to toe as though she expected to find a missing limb somewhere.

"I’m fine," Hana assured her with a grin. "A little scratched up, maybe, but I’m fine."

She even spun around once to prove it.

Then, as though she had suddenly remembered something important, her expression brightened.

"Oh! I want you to meet my new friend."

She turned and glanced behind her.

The boy was still standing a short distance away, surrounded by the red butterflies that fluttered lazily around him.

"Hey, come here!" Hana happily called out. "Come meet my family!"

But the boy didn’t move.

He simply stood there, staring at Hana and her mother.

He didn’t know what he was feeling.

He had never seen anything like this before. A mother embracing her child with such obvious happiness. The way the woman had rushed toward Hana, the way she had held her, the way she had immediately begun worrying over every little scratch on her body...

Had his own mother ever been that happy to see him?

Had she ever looked at him with such warmth?

He couldn’t remember.

All he could remember was being called a devil.

He was the devil.

And mothers didn’t like devils.

The woman was a mother. She would hate him.

The thought settled heavily in his mind, and whatever small hope he had of approaching them disappeared. He couldn’t be friends with them. He couldn’t stay here.

Without another thought, he turned around.

A familiar black hole opened behind him, and before Hana could say anything, he stepped into it and disappeared. The portal closed almost immediately afterward, leaving nothing behind except a few fluttering red butterflies.

Hana stood there with her mouth hanging open.

"Did he just run away?"

She stared at the empty spot where he had been standing, looking genuinely offended.

"Oh my God. I’m so offended. I wanted him to meet you guys, and he just ran away..."

She pouted, crossing her arms as she glared at the empty space.

Then again, after thinking about it for a moment, Hana could somewhat understand his apprehension. The poor guy looked like he hadn’t met many people in his entire life, and now he had suddenly been brought face-to-face with a whole group of strangers.

Still, Hana couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed.

Biting her lip, she looked back toward the place where he had disappeared.

"Maybe he’ll come back," she whispered hopefully.

She barely finished speaking before a hand reached out and pinched her ear.

"Ow!"

Hana immediately covered her ear and turned toward her mother.

"I’m sorry, Mom! Please!" she cried hurriedly. "I was just going to pee, but then my new friend wanted to meet me, so he took me away. I swear he’s a good person!"

Jinju’s expression darkened.

"You can’t just follow strangers around, Lin Hana!"

Hana immediately pouted.

After receiving her mother’s furious glare, she wisely decided not to argue. She quietly went over and sat down with the others, rubbing her sore ear while looking thoroughly wronged.

After a moment, she glanced around the group.

"Where’s Yunfeng, by the way?"

"He went out searching for you," Jinju replied with a sigh. "That poor boy was absolutely distraught."

Hana’s shoulders dropped.

"It wasn’t my plan to get pulled away either," she muttered, looking rather helpless.

After all, she had only gone out for a walk.

Somehow, she had ended up getting kidnapped by a strange boy, adopted a bunch of red butterflies as acquaintances, and been dragged through a black hole.

It really wasn’t her fault.

Soon, Yunfeng and Shao returned, talking quietly among themselves. The moment Yunfeng stepped closer to the camp, however, he suddenly stopped and sniffed the air.

"Hana?"

His eyes widened.

"She’s here."

Without waiting for Shao, he immediately rushed toward the cars.

The moment he saw the young girl sitting safely by the campfire, happily waving at him, the tension that had been weighing on his chest finally loosened. Yunfeng let out a long breath of relief before his expression quickly turned furious.

"What the hell was that?! How did you escape that monster?!"

Hana’s smile immediately disappeared.

"Gosh, Brother, he wasn’t a monster. He was my friend," she said, sounding slightly offended by his choice of words.

Yunfeng walked over to her with a deep frown.

"What friend? I don’t know any of your friends who survived."

Hana glared up at him.

"He’s a new friend."

Yunfeng’s eyes narrowed.

"It’s a guy. A guy kidnapped you."

He quickly squatted down in front of her, his expression turning serious as he inspected her from head to toe.

"Did he touch you inappropriately? Did he hurt you in any way?"

"Calm down, Yunfeng. I’m fine." Hana waved his concerns away. "He didn’t do anything to me. In fact, he was just lonely and wanted a friend. Don’t blame him for that."

Yunfeng grumbled under his breath, clearly not convinced.

"Well, if he wanted a friend, why did he have to kidnap you?"

"He’s just not very social. He’s a good guy, I swear."

Yunfeng stared at her for a long moment, his expression growing increasingly stern.

"I don’t want you meeting that guy ever again. Got that?"

Hana’s eyes widened in disbelief.

"Oh my God, why are you being so dramatic? He’s just my friend! Not my boyfriend." She huffed and crossed her arms. "Ugh, I hate you!"

Before Yunfeng could say anything else, she jumped up and ran to the other side of the campfire, dropping herself down beside Jai.
