Primordial Awakening: My Bloodline Evolves Infinitely
Chapter 106: UpgradesFueled by the excitement of attaining such a powerful creature as his summon, he immediately rose to his feet and approached the snake’s carcass.
He was forced to limp along the way due to his accumulated exhaustion.
Callum stood atop the monster’s body, his little beak already dripping with blood as he feasted on the creature. His meal had stalled when the familiar noticed a large, shining orb, which he recognized as a mana core.
Leonard blinked slowly, mesmerized by the sight. Others would have rejoiced at the discovery, since selling it would net them a large sum of funds.
However, Leonard had other ideas. He reached out and placed his palm over the core’s surface, which was cold to the touch.
[Primordial Bloodline stirs in your veins.]
[You have personally slain the core’s owner. However, your level is lower than the Crimson Snake. In order to fulfill all conditions and add this summon to your command, you must reach Level 40.]
A large smile spread across his face. He had expected that he wouldn’t be able to obtain the creature as a summon unless he reached Level 40. Still, the very fact that he was capable of gaining another powerful summon gave him another reason to raise his level as fast as possible.
He lifted the core with both hands. It was larger than a human’s head, its insides swirling with crackling energy.
[Dimensional Storage activated!]
Without any hesitation, he immediately stored the core using his skill while pretending that he used his ring instead.
Nodding in contentment, Leonard reached out and patted Callum on the head.
"Who is a good bird? You are!"
Had it not been for Callum, Leonard wouldn’t have noticed the mana core and would have sold the creature’s carcass without knowing its real value.
Callum screeched happily before going back to eating.
Leaving his familiar to his own devices, Leonard glanced at the system notifications.
Level: 15 [Experience: 10,000/3,800]
[You have risen to Level 16!]
Level: 16 [Experience: 6,200/4,400]
[You have risen to Level 17!]
Level: 17 [Experience: 1,800/5,200]
[You have gained 10 Attribute Points and 100 Evolution Points!]
[You have gained 10 Attribute Points and 100 Evolution Points!]
Thanks to the 10,000 experience he gained from killing the snake, he managed to level up twice, which was unheard of once an awakener’s level reached the double digits.
He glanced at the resources at his disposal.
Attribute Points: 0 → 20
Evolution Points: 300 → 20,500
First he redistributed the Attribute Points. His final status read as follows.
Name: Leonard
Level: 17 [Experience: 1,800/5,200]
Bloodline: Primordial
Classes: Viking, Brawler, Runesmith
Vitality: 30 → 32
Strength: 30 → 32
Agility: 30 → 32
Endurance: 30 → 32
Magic: 63 → 75(x2) → 150
Mana: 1,260 → 1,500
Skills: Lightning Strike, Dimensional Storage, Dragon Slayer, War Cry, Draconic Eyes, Shock Absorption, Fireball, Sigil Library, Bestiary
Attribute Points: 20 → 0
Evolution Points: 20,500
Traits: Accelerated Manaflow, Hardened Physique, Devoted Summons, Silver Blood, Thunder Blessing, Axe Mastery, Light Footwork, Hand Combat Mastery, Expansive Mind
Titles: Lumberjack, Inquisitor, One Man Army, Lone Diver
The newly allocated points to his attributes energized him to an extent, almost as if he hadn’t been fighting for his life just a few minutes prior.
While it had been easy to spend the Attribute Points, the Evolution Points weren’t that simple. He had many Skills and Traits that he could upgrade, not to mention his summons as well.
He had to figure out the wisest way to invest them.
For example, using 10,000 to upgrade Devoted Summons wouldn’t benefit him. Opening up another slot for a summon was useless at the moment since he couldn’t gain the snake even if he wanted to.
Similarly, he could spend 20,000 Evolution Points to upgrade Valor. But most of his strength didn’t come from his summons but from his arsenal. It would be better to invest them into himself instead.
After much deliberation, he made his choice on what to improve.
He upgraded the two Traits he relied on the most during battle.
[Accelerated Manaflow - Level 3 → 4]
[Increases the absorption rate of your mana pathways, passively restores 1 mana every 8 → 7 seconds.]
[Upgrade Accelerated Manaflow to the next Level: 18,000 Evolution Points]
The mana regeneration was the most vital aspect of every awakener, often dictating whether they lived or perished.
[Axe Mastery - Level 1 → 2]
[Damage dealt with axe attacks is increased by 25% → 40%. Your throws become 40% → 60% more accurate. Additionally, your strikes cause minor → moderate buildup of Hemorrhage.]
[Upgrade Axe Mastery to the next Level: 36,000 Evolution Points]
Given how powerful Titanic Oath had been up until now, it was a no-brainer to further improve his axe mastery.
Next, his attention shifted to his two most useful skills, which didn’t cost too many Evolution Points to upgrade.
[Lightning Strike - Level 8 → 10 (MAX)]
[Rank: Rare]
[Infuses your strike with low-affinity lightning and amplifies your strength by 270% → 300%.]
[Usage cost: 10 Mana.]
[Evolve Lightning Strike to the next Rank: 10,000 Evolution Points]
This was the first skill Leonard had ever possessed, and it had saved his life on multiple occasions by now.
[War Cry - Level 1 → 5]
[Rank: Rare]
[Increases the damage and defense of yourself and your allies by 10% → 15%. Slows down the movement of all enemies by 10% → 15%. The duration of the skill is 1 minute.]
[Usage cost: 30 Mana.]
[Upgrade War Cry to the next level: 500 Evolution Points]
The versatility of the skill was palpable. Regardless of the situation or the enemy, it was bound to be helpful.
Finally, he glanced at the mist that had gathered around the area. Joker was an invaluable ally, and he could only benefit by evolving him to the next rank.
[Joker has been evolved to the next Rank!]
[Rank: Rare → Epic]
[Joker is able to assume the form of any being equal to or lower than its master’s Level, retaining 10% → 20% of the original’s attributes. Common ranked skills can now carry over.]
[Summon cost: 20 → 40 Mana. Further mana expenditure required to sustain the summon depends on the level of exertion.]
[Evolve Joker to the next Rank: 60,000 Evolution Points]
Evolution Points: 20,500 → 0
Just like that, the large amount of Evolution Points that many would be willing to kill for was spent in mere seconds. Still, Leonard didn’t regret a single thing.
He had become much more formidable than before.
Leonard closed the system interface and commanded Joker to replicate him.
Joker obeyed, creating a copy of Leonard. Unlike last time, he was much stronger, and the mist flowed more smoothly.
"If it’s dark enough, he will easily be mistaken for the real deal." Leonard concluded. He was one step closer to getting the perfect spy.
Following his direction, Joker extended a hand and unleashed a Fireball, the only Common-ranked skill Leonard possessed.
As if using the skill himself, Leonard observed as a large fireball gathered over Joker’s hand before he unleashed it, burning the air along its path.
It was worth noting that the mana required to activate the skill came from Leonard’s mana pool, as Joker didn’t possess any mana of his own.
Happy with the end result, he called the summon back into his soul.
Suddenly, Christopher appeared beside him.
"Outstanding performance. You have gone beyond all expectations." He narrowed his eyes, subtly scanning Leonard.
Leonard chuckled.
"It’s not like this is just my victory. Elizabeth did most of the heavy lifting." He replied with a shrug. "Now that I mention her, where is she? With the end of the Monster Wave, the exercise is over, right?"
"Nothing is over until the leftover monsters are dealt with..." Christopher said, then heaved a deep sigh and shook his head.
"As for Elizabeth... She has been eliminated and is currently busy with family matters. You can go and see for yourself, I suppose... though I advise against it."
The man gestured toward a part of the forest before leaving with the other supervisors, heading over to check on the other scholars.
"Family matters?" Leonard muttered, puzzled, as he strode to the trees.
Smack!
A loud slap echoed through the forest. Freezing in place, he saw Elizabeth lying on the ground, one cheek red, with an imposing figure of a man standing over her.
"Father, I can explain—"
She began, only to be cut off midway.
"Shut it, Elizabeth." Damon ordered, his tone emotionless. "I don’t need to hear your excuses after that unsightly display."
