A sharp gasp escaped Leonard’s throat. Freezing winds collided with him from all sides.

Instantly, he activated Golden Scales, making the golden armor appear over his physique and protecting him from potential harm.

After getting his breathing under control, his eyes surveyed the surroundings.

As far as his eyes could see, the ground was covered in an endless sheet of ice, so thick that regardless of how far he peered, only more ice met his gaze. Pristine snow was falling from the sky, slowly accumulating across the land.

Besides the frozen land, the only notable point of interest was a colossal kingdom forged from ice, with sharp pillars reaching past the drifting clouds.

Given that the system had called the place the Ice Realm, he found the name fitting.

"Déjà vu... It’s similar to when I first met Ragnar inside Titanic Oath. Are all lingering spirits fond of the cold?" He wondered aloud, starting to shiver from the temperature.

Honestly, he hadn’t expected to enter the scythe just by touching it. If the weapon was a soul weapon like his axe, then only Elizabeth, the rightful wielder of the heirloom, should have had access.

"Maybe my Primordial Bloodline is the reason... Still, considering that we both had our hands on the handle, it’s reasonable to assume that Elizabeth has also been dragged into this place."

His gaze dropped, scanning Titanic Oath.

"So despite being a soul weapon yourself, you are allowed to follow me here?" He mused, eyes narrowing. "Ragnar, how about you come out right about now? Your presence would greatly help me."

"..."

Alas, the axe remained still, with no indication that the spirit of the legendary warrior residing inside was willing to show himself.

Leonard clicked his tongue and dropped the matter. His mentor remained ever so mysterious.

With a long exhale, he strode forward toward the ice kingdom. Soon enough, his eyes fixed upon Elizabeth, who was also traversing the place.

Feeling glad that he wasn’t alone in the foreign realm, he went up to her side. Though as he neared, he noticed that things were far from normal.

She sat on the cold ground, hugging her knees, while her arms were wrapped around her head, blocking her ears.

All around her, pale ghosts circled around her, their shouts deafening.

"Let the frost consume the world."

"Submit to the cold."

"The ice can bend everything to your will."

"We can grant every one of your desires."

"Shut your trap! All of you!" Elizabeth yelled back. "My mother would never let something like this break her!"

Letting out a silent curse, Leonard hurried toward her.

"How the heck am I supposed to fend off ghosts?" He muttered bitterly. "I’m not an exorcist, god dammit!"

[Primordial Bloodline stirs in your veins.]

Just then, the crimson pendant he wore around his neck began to shine in the pattern of a heartbeat. A subtle shockwave resonated from the jewelry and clashed against the ghosts haunting Elizabeth.

"What is this?!"

"An outsider here?! How?!"

"That pendant! That presence! Impossible! How come it is still alive—"

Met with the presence of his Primordial Bloodline, the ghosts shuddered and dispersed amidst the atmosphere like mist, bringing silence to the area save for the cold currents of the wind.

Elizabeth hesitated for a moment and raised her head. The voices around her had vanished.

Her eyes fixed on Leonard, his figure unwaveringly moving through the cold toward her with heavy steps.

"Leonard?" She whispered quietly before rising to her feet, her icy persona resurfacing.

"Do you know where we are?"

"Based on my experience, we are inside your scythe. When touched, the spirits inside the soul weapons judge awakeners if they are worthy. This must be something similar." Leonard replied.

Elizabeth’s eyes narrowed briefly.

"Inside my mother’s weapon? But I have used the heirloom before, and this has never happened." She paused. "Could it be... because you are here, it’s now different?"

"Nobody can answer with certainty." Leonard answered with a shrug.

"I see..." She nodded, her eyes drifting toward the ice kingdom. "Then, we are probably meant to go there."

The two exchanged glances and proceeded.

"Are you all right? Those ghosts that haunted you looked stubborn." He asked in concern. "What did they even want?"

"I am okay now." She reassured him, though she hesitated before answering the second question.

"When they arrived, I began to feel my heart slowly grow colder... I think... If I had let them in as they wished, I would have lost myself and become something else entirely..." Elizabeth bit her lower lip. "Like... a Hollow."

"They... wanted to turn you into a monster?" Leonard frowned, unsure how to respond.

Remaining silent, the two neared the ice kingdom. Along the way, ghosts gathered around them. They kept their distance, pushed back by Leonard’s pendant, but they didn’t hesitate to show their hostility.

Soon after, the two entered through the gates and kept going. Just like outside, the interior of the kingdom was made entirely of ice, so cold that if touched with a bare hand, the skin would instantly freeze, unable to be pulled back.

"Stop right there."

A voice echoed around them, bringing them to a complete halt.

Their eyes darted across the place, searching for the owner of the clear voice, yet the surging ghosts surrounding them had multiplied in number to the point that they formed an impenetrable wall between them and the environment.

Suddenly, the swirling ghosts parted, forming a path that led to a throne made of ice. Upon it hovered a ball of condensed frost, whose very presence radiated a bitter cold so intense that it looked capable of freezing an entire planet.

[Heart of Frost]

"Elizabeth Starlight. What is the purpose of your visit?"

Leonard and Elizabeth’s breathing hitched. They wondered if this was the spirit of the heirloom.

"I have come here to master the scythe, to bend the weapon my mother left me to my will and wield it in combat!" She answered with unwavering determination.

Abruptly, the Heart of Frost expanded outward, becoming even colder.

"You, a lowly human, desire to wield my powers for yourself? Very well, try and perish..." It chuckled in amusement, its voice dripping with malice.

"Just like your mother."
