Looking at his adversary, Leonard realized that this wasn’t a man to be underestimated.

Walter was a tall soldier with broad shoulders and thick forearms, a scar running from the base of his neck up to his ear.

Judging by the mana he emitted, Walter had to be Level 30.

With a frown, Leonard quickly glanced at his level.

Level: 17 [Experience: 4,800/5,200]

Despite quickly dispatching ten of the enemy forces, they had only given him 300 experience each, and he hadn’t been able to rise to the next level.

"I need to finish this fight quickly."

Leonard dropped into a battle stance. His mouth opened slightly as he took hoarse breaths. The air rushing past the arrow embedded in his throat sounded like a howling wind, mirroring the breathing of a terrifying monster.

"Mister Monster, that sure doesn’t sound good." Walter smirked, resting his greatsword on his shoulder. "You sure you want to continue in the state you’re in?"

Leonard wasn’t caught by the bait, his eyes dead set on his opponent, eager to go for the kill.

"Bastard." Walter clicked his tongue in irritation. "Come then, let me make you pay for killing those in my squad!"

There wasn’t any hesitation in Leonard’s movements. His knees bent, his center of gravity dropping low before he lunged forward like a feral beast.

"Faster. I need to be faster."

The next moment, he was next to Walter.

[Lightning Slash activated!]

Sparing no thought, he swung, aiming for the man’s left leg.

Walter reacted in time. He tilted his greatsword and struck the axe, stopping the strike.

"So you do have a few tricks up your sleeve after all..." Walter’s expression twisted into a grimace.

Leonard remained silent. With his free hand, he conjured a fireball and hurled it at the man’s face.

"You think that this can stop me?!" Walter barked and dodged it by tilting his head aside.

He was prepared to slash.

However, Valor stopped him the next second.

The loyal knight flanked Walter and aimed for his head.

Walter barely dodged the attack, scrambling backward.

His narrowed eyes shifted between Leonard and Valor.

Valor possessed 200% of his master’s attributes. However, since Leonard was further boosted by his armor, the two stood on par regarding their physical stats alone.

"This is bad." Walter murmured grimly.

Dealing with one of them at a time would have been hard but doable, yet facing the two at the same time was surely going to push him over the edge.

"No matter!"

A monstrous roar erupted from his maw.

"Let me show you why I am a Sergeant, and you are a mere scholar!"

Walter’s aura flared, gathering around the blade of his greatsword.

Leonard’s senses tingled. He knew that he wouldn’t be walking away unscathed if he got cut by that blade!

The ground beneath Walter cracked with raw power. His greatsword descended like a thunderbolt from the heavens.

Leonard sidestepped the attack.

Valor remained unwavering and met the strike head-on.

Overwhelmed by the force, the knight was swept off his feet and flung backward.

Satisfied, Walter was ready to kill Leonard before the knight could come to his aid once more.

[Dragon Slayer activated!]

Yet the next second, his breathing hitched as a silver javelin was hurled straight toward his head.

With a silent curse, Walter ducked the projectile, feeling it graze his hair as it continued flying overhead.

Leonard had already acted. Thanks to his Draconic Eyes, he knew the attack wouldn’t kill his adversary, so he sought to inflict harm before Walter had time to react.

Using Lightning Slash again, he struck. The head of Titanic Oath carved a deep gash across Walter’s palm.

"Ugh!" He groaned in pain. He felt frost slowly invade his body, along with the moderate buildup of Hemorrhage.

As things stood, Walter was on track to lose!

"Preposterous!"

The man bellowed, unwilling to accept reality. In desperation, he raised his greatsword high above his head, the weapon beginning to gleam with a dangerous aura.

This was Walter’s ultimate attack, one that even General Godfrey would be unable to counter unscathed!

"Even at the cost of my life, I will make sure I deal with you!"

Letting his fury explode outward, Walter gazed at Leonard and his knight, expecting to see some resemblance of fear for their lives. His strike, after all, was sure to end their lives prematurely.

Yet, to his utter disbelief, Leonard’s reaction was the complete opposite of what he expected.

The corner of his mouth, still stained with blood, curled upward ever so subtly into an expression of pure amusement.

Leonard tilted his chin upward and brought a finger to his lips in a hush gesture.

Walter’s breathing hitched.

By all accounts, Leonard seemed on the verge of death.

So where was this unshaken confidence coming from?

Walter realized his mistake a fraction of a second too late.

In his desperation to unleash his strongest skill, he had dropped his guard.

His eyes trembled as he sensed a gathering mist taking form behind him.

All this time, Joker had remained in wait, biding his time for the right moment.

When the opportunity presented itself, he didn’t hesitate.

Joker assumed the form of his master. A second later, his limb pierced Walter straight through the chest.

"Impossible!" Walter gasped, his knees buckling under their own weight.

Before he was able to lift his gaze from the wound, Leonard threw Titanic Oath, embedding it deep in the man’s shoulder.

He screamed, pain overwhelming his other senses.

Valor put an end to his struggles, his greatsword piercing straight through his head, the blade emerging from the other side.

Sergeant Walter, one of the strongest warriors in the gathered army, died on the spot, his eyes losing their luster.

[You have defeated a Level 30 Human]

[Primordial Bloodline reduces the penalty for killing same-race members to 50%!]

[You have risen to Level 18!]

Level: 18 [Experience: 4,600/6,000]

[You have gained 10 Attribute Points and 100 Evolution Points!]

Honestly, the reward was larger than Leonard had expected. It seemed that killing an awakener that vastly out-leveled him had paid off massively, thanks to his Primordial Bloodline.

Magic: 75 → 85 (x2) → 170

He allocated all of the points to his Magic and surveyed the battlefield, the sounds of war echoing around him.

Not too far away, he saw Albert fighting against Godfrey.

Without hesitation, he dashed to join the fight.
